Day 304 of wisdom

“We spend our time envying people whom we wouldn't wish to be.”

Jean Rostand

It is unfortunate how many people engage in a sin that has no form of pleasure, puts their mind in a very sour situation, gives them no peace, no joy, and at the end yields nothing. Envy is like one taking bitter pills for the sweet things that another man consumed. As Socrates once opined that, "Envy is the ulcer of the soul" he also said, "The envious person grows lean with the fatness of their neighbor." it is bad enough that we envy people, it is even more appalling that we do not wish to be like the person whom we envy.

There are people who are in positions or situations we would sometimes wish to be in, they may be doing things we want to do ourselves, but it does not give us the right to be envious of whatever they are doing or have achieved, instead we must appreciate them and their achievements. We should also be ready and willing to submit ourselves to learn from this people so we can become better ourselves. Meanwhile, we should not even want or wish to become like someone else, we should work so much on ourselves to become what we are supposed to be.

Our time must be cherished, valued and used productively rather than on things that are of no real benefits to us. Time is expensive, time is money, time is the most valuable thing a man can spend, our time must therefore be spent wisely and not wasted on irrelevant things, as Benjamin Franklin would say "Lost time is never found again." Time spent envying rather than working on how your dreams and life purpose can be achieved is lost time; time spent unwisely is lost time; time that brings us no good is lost time.

We are all born original with a purpose, and a destiny to fulfil, so many people don't attempt to live out their dreams and pursue their purpose, rather they run around trying to become someone else, trying to be a photocopy of what they were not cut out for, striving so hard only to become second to another man, when there is a place prepared for them as the first, when there is a path for them to chart, when they are supposed to be a pacesetter rather than a trailer. You are born original do not die a copy, quit envying start living, start pursuing your dreams.
