366 days of wisdom (October 26, 2020)

Day 300 of wisdom

“The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.”

Bobby Knight

Everyone can succeed because, everyone has the will to succeed, but everyone will not succeed because not everyone has the will to prepare for success. Success is easy to come by, it is very cheap to get but that is only when one has paid the price for it, when one have worked hard enough to earn it. As important as the willingness to succeed is, the willingness to prepare for the desired success is much more important. It is not enough to want to succeed, your desire to succeed must be driven by the willingness to give whatever it takes to succeed.

Determination, hard work, and consistency are the recipes for success, without these, achieving success will be just a mirage. As legendary American Author and leadership Coach John Maxwell would say, "You see, success doesn't just suddenly occur one day. For that matter, neither does failure. Each is a process. Every day of your life is merely preparation for the next" but if you fail to prepare adequately for your desired success, you have adequately prepared for your undesired failure.

As crucial as preparation and planning is to the eventual actualisation of success, one must know when to put all the planning and preparation to action because, time waits for no man. As Gbenga Emiloju, 'Author of 20+1 laws of personal greatness' wrote in a post that "It is important you plan effectively before embarking on any goal, but you must equally know when to launch necessary actions to implement your plans. If not, you would only dream and keep dreaming without doing anything to translate your dream into reality."

Alan Armstrong once said, "Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character." Winning and succeeding does not come suddenly, it has been a part of the man who have given himself to the preparation for success. "You were born to win, but to be the winner you were born to be, you have to plan to win and prepare to win. Then and only then can you expect to win" (Zig Ziglar).
