Day 285 of wisdom
“To give without any reward, or any notice, has a special quality of its own.”
Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Giving is not giving when it is done with the intention to show off or as a seed planted to reap from. When we give we must do so with the genuine intention to help the person to whom we give, rather than to seek special recognition, respect, or reward. The kind of giving that comes from a pure heart, that expects nothing in return is special and have its own quality, it is the kind of giving that inspires the receiver to become a giver. As Simon Sinek would say, "Don't give to get. Give to inspire others to give."
Our lives is not to be lived just for our own self, our life is to be lived in a way that it impact and inspire others to live a full life and not just for themselves but for others also. If our existence was just for ourselves, why then did we come here? Why were we born? Why did we have to pursue purpose? If we were to live for ourselves alone, when we leave this earth, all we would have achieved will also leave with us or be wasted away. If we must truly live, we must do things for people and for our world which we do not really expect to benefit from, as Nelson Henderson said, "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit."
Giving is an act of love, and love has nothing to do with what you get, love is always about what you expect to give. Love gives unconditionally, irrespective of what happens and is never tired of giving except it is no more love. Giving is not only about the material given, it is about the heart, it is about the condition of the mind. Though the substance given may finish the act never dies, it endures longer. The man who gives never lacks, not because he will always have, but because he will always give, he sees nothing as his own but as for the one who needs it most.
Give all you can: laughter, smile, love, kindness, a helping hand expecting nothing in return and you will always get, not in measures you have given, but in far greater measures. Nature and the universe will always favour the giver, the kind hearted, and the helper. Roy T. Bennett encapsulates it with these words, "Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance."
