Day 299 of wisdom
“We loved with a love that was more than love.”
Edgar Allan Poe
They have always wanted our backs against ourselves, they never wanted us to understand each other, they knew we would be too powerful for them to handle if we came together, they knew our unity will dislodge them from power and deprive them of their continued dominance, and tyrannic rule, they knew all these and never wanted our unity. They knew it will be the end of the road for them, they knew our freedom draws near, they knew they were in trouble, so they dispersed us with guns and bullets.
We loved ourselves with a love that was more than love, we became our brother's keepers, we were united, we watched over each other, we provided for ourselves what we needed, there was love, sympathy, and empathy in the atmosphere. The groundnut seller who gave out her groundnuts for free got in return what she never expected, something the people she voted for would have never given her, the boy who gave out snacks for free to strengthen people to fight so he would go to school is surely on his way to a new level, for the lady without a leg, almost triple of the fund intended to be raised was eventually raised.
Love was flowing, peace was winning, they saw the unity, they saw the will, and they became scared, they felt threatened, they sowed tares among us to disrupt the movement, to destabilise the nation, the one they swore to protect. We wanted peace, they brought war; we wanted reforms, they wanted the status quo; we wanted a better nation, a country that works for all irrespective of tribe, religion, age, gender, and political affiliation, they wanted bigger personal pockets; we wanted a nation we would be proud of, they wanted a country in which only them would be proud; we wanted to bury the dream of having to leave our homes for hopes of a better future, all they wanted was an unsecure, unsettled home so they can continue to do whatever they wanted.
We love our home, but not the way it is, we want a better one. We showed how it could be, we cleaned everywhere we threaded, we fed ourselves, we cared for ourselves, we loved ourselves with a love that was more than love, the love that made the receiver cry, and the seer shed tears. We are a loving people, and this love must not end but continue, because this is the love that will build our country, our nation, our home.
