Day 305 of wisdom

Of all the countless journeys we will ever embark on as human beings, the most important is the journey towards purpose discovery. There are journeys we will have to make as human beings a lot of which are very important and necessary, some of these journeys may be very brief, and other may take longer but, in all, until you come to the point where you realise the purpose for your life, you have not started living. It is your purpose that charts your path on all other journeys telling you where to go, and how to get there.

We either become ourselves or we become nothing, if you are not living to fulfil destiny then why are you living? To what purpose is your existence? In the words of Dag Hammarskjold who said, "The longest journey is the journey inwards. Of him who has chosen his destiny, Who has started upon his quest for the source of his being." It may take time to realise who you are, why you are here, why you are where you are at the time you are, the journey may not be easy but, in the end it would be worth all the efforts, all the waiting, and all the sacrifice.

You are made for a purpose, specially endowed and empowered for that purpose, all you need do upon discovery of this purpose is to align with it, be willing to do whatever is required and necessary for the fulfillment of that purpose then look inwards for what you have within you to achieve it, you will be amazed at how easily you will sail through some seemingly rough and tough patches of the journey. The reason so many people encounter challenges on their journey to destiny fulfillment is because, they are not on their own path, they are either trailing another man's path or forcing their way through a path that does not belong to them.

Never allow yourself to be limited by whatever factors may be responsible for holding a man down, there is no limit to the dimension of greatness that can be achieved when you are determined to grow irrespective of the circumstances around you. The limits you set for yourself are the only limits that are capable of hindering your progress and growth. Free your mind, have the consciousness of a limitless life and follow your dreams, you will arrive at a pleasant destination.

It is unfortunate how many people engage in a sin that has no form of pleasure, puts their mind in a very sour situation, gives them no peace, no joy, and at the end yields nothing. Envy is like one taking bitter pills for the sweet things that another man consumed. As Socrates once opined that, "Envy is the ulcer of the soul" he also said, "The envious person grows lean with the fatness of their neighbor." it is bad enough that we envy people, it is even more appalling that we do not wish to be like the person whom we envy.

There are people who are in positions or situations we would sometimes wish to be in, they may be doing things we want to do ourselves, but it does not give us the right to be envious of whatever they are doing or have achieved, instead we must appreciate them and their achievements. We should also be ready and willing to submit ourselves to learn from this people so we can become better ourselves. Meanwhile, we should not even want or wish to become like someone else, we should work so much on ourselves to become what we are supposed to be.

Our time must be cherished, valued and used productively rather than on things that are of no real benefits to us. Time is expensive, time is money, time is the most valuable thing a man can spend, our time must therefore be spent wisely and not wasted on irrelevant things, as Benjamin Franklin would say "Lost time is never found again." Time spent envying rather than working on how your dreams and life purpose can be achieved is lost time; time spent unwisely is lost time; time that brings us no good is lost time.

We are all born original with a purpose, and a destiny to fulfil, so many people don't attempt to live out their dreams and pursue their purpose, rather they run around trying to become someone else, trying to be a photocopy of what they were not cut out for, striving so hard only to become second to another man, when there is a place prepared for them as the first, when there is a path for them to chart, when they are supposed to be a pacesetter rather than a trailer. You are born original do not die a copy, quit envying start living, start pursuing your dreams.

Every ounce of success achieved is worth celebrating, one always deserve some accolades for every bit of it. Success is very loud, it can barely be secretly achieved and when the bells ring, the drums roll, and the celebrations are on, one tends to forget himself and how hard he has worked to achieve that feat, he begins to see himself as smart, intelligent, and someone who knows the way and will always have his way, but success is not just that.

The day one begins to forget or shun the process, or pathway to the successful achievement of a goal, or dream, from that moment he has started a movement in regression. Success in a particular endeavour does not guarantee success in every other endeavours of life, whatever you will achieve at any point in time you must work for it in one way or another, nothing comes for nothing, except something that is worth nothing. If you will be proud of whatever you want to achieve you must work for it and be able to replicate that success elsewhere.

Seeking help and soliciting support are some of the very germane attributes of a successful person, it does not mean you are weak or that you lack knowledge, it only show how human you are and that the struggle for a better life is not a piece of cake. Jared Padalecki once said, “If you’re out there and need help, please seek it. Be proud of your valiant day-to-day struggle. There is no shame in needing support.” There is no reason to be ashamed when you are working on your self, when you a building the future of your dreams, when your path seem to be that of humility, you must do whatever you have to do irrespective of who is looking or not.

Never take learning for granted, life is a school, everyone is a student of life, every opportunity to learn must be duly taken advantage of, and when it yields the required result, it is not time to relax, it is time to restart, to refire, and to do something bigger and better. Never underestimate your achievements, neither should you overrated them, always find a balance to everything and never give up until you win. In the words of Winston Churchill "Success is not final Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."

Day 302 of wisdom

“Correction does much, but encouragement does more.”

Mistakes are a part of man's life, everyone is bound to make them at one point in their life, but a mistake is not yet a mistake until one repeats it. Correction is the act of calling the wrong to attention and making them realise the path taken was not right and should be amended. Corrections are implemented to help the doer of wrong retrace their steps, and it must be done with brevity and conciseness or else it would lose its essence, as Hosea Ballou would say, "Brevity and conciseness are the parents of correction."

Correction is very important to our growth and development but, encouragement does much more than correction does. If correction is an addition to our strength, encouragement is a multiplication of our strength. Whatever we do when corrected, we do with the consciousness of not making the same errors we were corrected for, but whatever we do when encouraged we do with courage and confidence, knowing we are trusted and believed to be able to execute perfectly what we have embarked on.

As human beings we sometimes want to shield ourselves from taking corrections, but we must realise that no one knows it all, and as Aniekee Tochukwu Ezekiel shared, "Instead of avoiding criticisms, make criticisms work for you." criticisms are a form of correction when it is constructive and intended to help you grow. In the words of Carmine Savastano who said, "Remember we are all human and can make mistakes that we should correct. However, no one should ever imagine that other people’s mistakes justify or lessen theirs." we must see our own mistakes as ours, correct them adequately and work towards becoming a better person rather than trying to justify them with other people's mistakes or lessen its effect.

Our deepest craving is having someone who will tell us we can do something that we know deep within us that we are well capable of doing. As Ralph Waldo Emerson would say, "Treat a man as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he could be, and he will become what he should be." When you encourage a man, you are treating him as he should be and he will become what he should be.

Day 301 of wisdom

“At times it is folly to hasten, at other times to delay. The wise do everything in its proper time.”

Timeliness is the most important thing when it comes to doing a thing. Sometimes, what you do is not as important as when you do it. Haste sometimes drag us backwards as William Shakespeare would say, "Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast." Oftentimes, when we do things in haste we forget the things to do, we do the unnecessary, we think we are running forward while, we are actually running behind. It is not enough to be busy, busyness is not activeness, activity without progress is regress.

Delay might at times be a saviour or a destroyer. Sometimes, it is better to delay or be delayed than to commit errors that may eventually be irreparable. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "Delay is preferable to error." Contrarily, in the consideration of time delay may be too dangerous to bunk with as Benjamin Franklin said, "You may delay, but time will not, and lost time is never found again." In the fight against time delay is dangerous. Sometimes, truth is uncovered in delay, and sometimes lies are birth and groomed as a result of delay.

It is best to do the right thing at the right time; to leave the things that can be left undone without consequences and attend to the most crucial things, and when the time is available you do the things you have left undone having done everything that needs to have been done. Time must not be wasted on irrelevancies while critical things are pending. Haste is not the key to getting ahead, neither is delay the the antidote to errors, but knowing what to do at the right time is the stuff of wise men, we must apply wisdom in everything we do.

In the words of David Steindl-Rast who said, "The challenge is to learn to respond immediately to whatever it is time for. Not to wonder whether you have time for it or whether you like it, but simply to respond when it is time." In everything we do timeliness is best, we must know the things that must be done in the spur of the moment or relinquished forever, and those things that if not done can be done anytime we want to do and can do it. Ultimately, "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7).

Day 300 of wisdom

“The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.”

Everyone can succeed because, everyone has the will to succeed, but everyone will not succeed because not everyone has the will to prepare for success. Success is easy to come by, it is very cheap to get but that is only when one has paid the price for it, when one have worked hard enough to earn it. As important as the willingness to succeed is, the willingness to prepare for the desired success is much more important. It is not enough to want to succeed, your desire to succeed must be driven by the willingness to give whatever it takes to succeed.

Determination, hard work, and consistency are the recipes for success, without these, achieving success will be just a mirage. As legendary American Author and leadership Coach John Maxwell would say, "You see, success doesn't just suddenly occur one day. For that matter, neither does failure. Each is a process. Every day of your life is merely preparation for the next" but if you fail to prepare adequately for your desired success, you have adequately prepared for your undesired failure.

As crucial as preparation and planning is to the eventual actualisation of success, one must know when to put all the planning and preparation to action because, time waits for no man. As Gbenga Emiloju, 'Author of 20+1 laws of personal greatness' wrote in a post that "It is important you plan effectively before embarking on any goal, but you must equally know when to launch necessary actions to implement your plans. If not, you would only dream and keep dreaming without doing anything to translate your dream into reality."

Alan Armstrong once said, "Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character." Winning and succeeding does not come suddenly, it has been a part of the man who have given himself to the preparation for success. "You were born to win, but to be the winner you were born to be, you have to plan to win and prepare to win. Then and only then can you expect to win" (Zig Ziglar).

Day 299 of wisdom

They have always wanted our backs against ourselves, they never wanted us to understand each other, they knew we would be too powerful for them to handle if we came together, they knew our unity will dislodge them from power and deprive them of their continued dominance, and tyrannic rule, they knew all these and never wanted our unity. They knew it will be the end of the road for them, they knew our freedom draws near, they knew they were in trouble, so they dispersed us with guns and bullets.

We loved ourselves with a love that was more than love, we became our brother's keepers, we were united, we watched over each other, we provided for ourselves what we needed, there was love, sympathy, and empathy in the atmosphere. The groundnut seller who gave out her groundnuts for free got in return what she never expected, something the people she voted for would have never given her, the boy who gave out snacks for free to strengthen people to fight so he would go to school is surely on his way to a new level, for the lady without a leg, almost triple of the fund intended to be raised was eventually raised.

Love was flowing, peace was winning, they saw the unity, they saw the will, and they became scared, they felt threatened, they sowed tares among us to disrupt the movement, to destabilise the nation, the one they swore to protect. We wanted peace, they brought war; we wanted reforms, they wanted the status quo; we wanted a better nation, a country that works for all irrespective of tribe, religion, age, gender, and political affiliation, they wanted bigger personal pockets; we wanted a nation we would be proud of, they wanted a country in which only them would be proud; we wanted to bury the dream of having to leave our homes for hopes of a better future, all they wanted was an unsecure, unsettled home so they can continue to do whatever they wanted.

We love our home, but not the way it is, we want a better one. We showed how it could be, we cleaned everywhere we threaded, we fed ourselves, we cared for ourselves, we loved ourselves with a love that was more than love, the love that made the receiver cry, and the seer shed tears. We are a loving people, and this love must not end but continue, because this is the love that will build our country, our nation, our home.

Day 298 of wisdom

Miracles does not happen when what we expect a miracle from is something that is well within our control, when our ability supercedes the circumstance that we are faced with. Though all of life and everything in it is a miracle even in the very minute things, but some extraordinary miracles only occur when we are overwhelmed by our challenges, when we can no longer bear or carry the load that weigh us down, when all hopes seems to be lost, miracles spring up in the most unexpected fashion.

Miracles don't happen in specific ways neither do they happened the same way it happened to someone else so, if we expect a miracle in a particular way or manner, we may be disappointed. The difficulties that we face today is not here to crush us, it is here to reveal, or give an opportunity for miracles to happen. We must embrace difficulties, try all that is within our powers to overcome it, push until we can push no more, and when our strength can no longer carry us, when our options are exhausted, a miracle will spring forth.

It is the doer not the thinker, that receives a miracle. Thinking is not enough, you must do and doing is not enough, you must think, but it is the doer who does what he thinks and attempts to do but cannot that either receives strength to do or get assistance to do. We might have tried with no visible impact, we might have run and not covered much grounds, we might have worked but have little or nothing to show for it, we must not quit doing because the miracle is just by the corner.

When we seem to have been overpowered, when we seem to have been silenced, when it seems nothing can be done anymore, and giving up seems to be the next step, we must think of why we started, how far we have come, what we have lost, the things we gave up, and denied ourselves of, we must think of the destinies attached to the course for which we fight, and forge ahead in spite of the challenges, for just when we think it is over, the miracle will spring forth. Hold on, keep going, never quit, and you will win.

You need not search for another enemy if your brother, sister, friend, or neighbours silence you, or denies you the right to speak against ills and evil, there you have your enemies. No one irrespective of relationship, affiliation, or allegiance deserve to be a friend if they shut you up when you should speak up or, refuse to listen to you when you speak. Speaking up for one's right is the beginning of the road to freedom, and anyone who denies you the ability to speak denies you of your freedom.

The people who should provide you opportunities to grow, platforms to shine, privilege to rise to are determined to never allow you have all these are your enemies, they do not want you to be who you are meant to be, they limit your chances of growth and freedom, they are the real enemies you should fight, eliminate, and discard, they don't deserve to be your friend, they don't deserve your respect, they are animals in human skin, they wolves who are willing and ready to pounce on you to destroy you, but they come clothed as sheep and friends, they are foes.

It was Alice Walker who also said, “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” everyone is powerful in their own right, and a united people is even more powerful, unity brings extreme power, this is why those who hold people captive never want them to be united, they always want to sow discord, disunity, and anarchy among their captives so they would not revolt and overpower them. But once the captives have realised that power belong to them when they come together, that day they become free.

In the fight for freedom, you don't expect to be supported by everyone, even those who are in more miserable conditions than you are will fight against you for the sake of their master, but you must not be weakened by what support you receive or did not receive, you must keep your mind strong and your heads straight, your must remain focused on your goal, your purpose for the fight, and never lose sight of why you started the fight. In the words of Dr Martin Luther King Jr who said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” for they are our real enemies.

Day 296 of wisdom

Disappointments are a part of life, it comes unexpectedly, and when they do come we must accept it, especially when it has become a constant phenomenon. Every disappointment that we come across or receive always have an expiry date even if it will take long but, we must accept it as it comes but never lose hopes of a turn around. We must never lose sight of the pleasant and wonderful times that is ahead of us. It may not be easy to take but we must endure and bear until the tides will turn.

Dale Carnegie would say, “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” we must continue to move on, we must continue to fight, we must continue to pray, we must not relent in our fight for survival, and a better life, we must not give because, it is not over until we win. The generation to come will blame us for the the battles we fail to win, but ultimately we will be disappointed in ourselves if we fail the next generation.

The challenges might be overwhelming, the battle may be fierce, our lives may be threatened, but if we give up, then the battle is lost. We may not get our desired result so cheaply, but we will definitely get it, if we do not give up. In the words of William J. Brennan, Jr. who said, “We must meet the challenge rather than wish it were not before us.” without challenges we wouldn't have a chance to grow, and develop strength to move forward, and fight the ultimate battles that eventually guarantees freedom.

Elizabeth Gilbert once said, “We all want things to stay the same. Settle for living in misery because we are afraid of change, of things crumbling to ruins. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.” Destruction and ruin is not final, it is from thence rise newness and freshness, it is from there rise a new beginning, it is from there songs of hope and triumph rise. Hope must not be lost no matter the devastation. We must always “Remember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” (Stephen King).

Day 295 of wisdom

"Desperate affairs require desperate measures."

Situations well managed never gets out of hand, and when it does happen, special measures must be taken to restore calm, peace and order to the society. Though there is a quest for an end to everything that is unjust and violates human rights, there must be drawn limits, there must be a middle ground, there must be a time frame for every action step, there must be a strategy, and ultimately there must be understanding between all parties involved.

As Andy Andrews would say, "In desperate times, much more than anything else, folks need perspective. For perspective brings calm. Calm leads to clear thinking. Clear thinking yields new ideas. And ideas produce the bloom...of an answer. Keep your head and heart clear. Perspective can just as easily be lost as it can be found." in the agitation for what is right, there must be desperate efforts to keep the essence of the fight alive, and not allow it lost in transit.

Wisdom is needed in all we do, in the fight for freedom it will always become fierce, because the oppressor will never want the oppressed free but he who is determined will get what he wants. As Publius Cornelius Tacitus a first century Roman historian once said, "He that fights and runs away, May turn and fight another day; But he that is in battle slain, Will never rise to fight again." Only those who try to stay alive will fight another day, and when freedom is gained will reap the benefits of a free society.

Our lives should be our paramount responsibility to protect, we must not risk laying it down cheaply, it may be difficult to turn back when the heat is high but, we must know that a soul gone returns not again, safety is needed at this point, we must keep ourselves safe and ensure we don't endanger the lives of those around us, nor put our loved ones in misery and grief. All lives matter, freedom never comes easy, but wisdom is the principal thing. Let us apply wisdom.

Day 294 of wisdom

It is funny how reported real life events are sounding like jokes, and jokes are even more real and factual than real life happenings. Politicians have become comedians, and comedians are now the people telling us the realities of life, and bringing to our remembrance and notice real life happenings as if they were jokes. The people who are supposed to protect, secure and provide a worthy living environment for the people who they claim to serve have become so insensitive and less concerned about the wellbeing, safety, and security of the citizenry and only interested in enriching themselves.

You wouldn't need prophetic gifts or skills to be able to tell people what would happen next in our beloved country, all you need is just the ability to study the trend of events and you will be able to predict almost perfectly the things that will unveil as if it were a scripted movie. It is not funny how a nation like ours have gone from a potential world power to become a puppet on the international stage, how we have lost all our dignity, pride, and gracefulness, and have become an object of scorn to the world.

It is not funny how people who we are supposed to run to for safety, are the people we run from for safety; how what we own are being sold to us by people we should be giving those things to as a way of showing kindness, or even earn money; how we have become so used to oppression and discomfort that we don't even care about becoming free; how we suffer but smile and are willing to continue suffering and smiling.

God will not do for man what he has given man the ability, capacity, and strength to do, He will not intervene in the affairs of two equally enabled people, even if one of them fails to realise his strengths and ability. The book of Isaiah said in the twenty ninth verse of chapter forty that, "He (God) empowers the weak, He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak." He does so, not so He can fight for them but so they can fight and liberate themselves. Fight, speak up, and let's turn our lives from costly and unpleasant jokes to pleasant reality.

Day 293 of wisdom

A movement that is not forward oriented, a movement that is not progressive (not in name, but in deeds) is not a worthy movement. The past is gone, and unalterable, the misfortunes it brought may abide, but we can turn it around for a better future. The future is where life is, life is not in the past, it is dead and gone, the future is what we have. The today we have was our future yesterday, and what we now experience is a direct result of our actions and inactions yesterday. The things we could not fight for, work for, and demand yesterday are the bane of our growth and development today.

The future that we will have tomorrow is the future that we imagine today, design today, and are ready to implement starting today. If we fail to imagine, create, fight for, and build that future we will get the future we didn't bargain for, the future we less desire, the future we will not be proud of. As Abraham Lincoln said, "The best way to predict your future is to create it." we must create the future we want.

Our best days are ahead of us, the golden age is yet to be unveiled, the past is no more to be reckoned with, we are the hope of generations to come. If we refuse to create a better tomorrow, our today will be a better time to live in than tomorrow. As Owen Feltham would say, "Negligence is the rust of the soul that corrodes through all her best resolves." if we neglect our duty, if we fail to do for our unborn generations what our predecessors didn't do, we will be worse than they are and all our efforts would be in futility.

In life you don't get what you deserve, you get what you fight for, work for, and stand your ground for. If you stand for nothing you will always fall for everything; if you don't move forward, you will surely move in retrograde; there is no stagnancy in life, there is no middle ground, there is only forward or backward movement, there is either a left or a right, there is either up or down. The world we are requires extraordinary measures to achieve anything of note, as Lewis Carroll wrote, "My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that." To be stagnant, you must run, to move forward you must double your speed, please, move.

Day 292 of wisdom

“None so deaf as those that will not hear. None so blind as those that will not see.”

The phrase "he who has an ear, let him hear" appear at least 32 times in the scriptures, it was always said to ensure a message is clear and taken to heart. The truth is, not everyone that has ears actually hears, and not everyone that has eyes actually see. Some have ears but have chosen to be intentionally deaf, these ones are even more deafer than the deaf; some have eyes big and bold enough to see, but they are blind to the happenings and events around them, they are the real blind people and not those who actually does not have eyes to see.

A man who sees his neighbour in dire need of help and refuse to help despite having the capacity and ability to help is blind no matter what he has, who he is, what position he occupies; the one who hears the noise and shout for help of a fellow man but cares less about him is deaf irrespective of his status; the one who has a voice so loud but cannot speak for those who can't is dumb regardless of his class. Of what good is what we have if it cannot be used to help others, to liberate our fellow men, to lift those sinking, and to rescue them from destruction.

The person who has all he thinks he needs, uses it only for his own good, and does not care about the other person who has nothing, and will soon lose all that he has. There is nothing more useless as having something and not being able to use it for the good of others, there is no man as wicked as the man who should and can protect a person but became a danger and an object of oppression to those he should secure and protect, there is no other height of irresponsibility as one who is responsible for a thing neglecting his responsibility.

Psalms 82:2‭-‬4 (NIV) said, “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Proverbs 31:8-9 (NIV) also said, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” According to Proverbs 29:7 (NIV) “The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.” if you do not care for the poor, if the oppression of the weak is none of your concern, no matter how pious you claim you are, even if you are a clergy you are wicked, speak up.

Disability is not a physical phenomenon, it is a mental condition. Being physically disabled is just being differently-abled when the disability does not limit the mental ability. True disability is when a complete bodied man thinks he cannot do a thing; it is when one gives excuse for what he should do, expecting another to do it for him. Physical disability is not very visible as mental and internal disabilities. The mind of a man is the source of whatever he does, if he is crippled in his mind, he can do nothing at all even if he is whole bodily.

In an essay titled “Attitudes About People with Disabilities” Benjamin Snow wrote, “Disability is natural. We must stop believing that disabilities keep a person from doing something. Because that’s not true... Having a disability doesn’t stop me from doing anything.” disabilities are ot licence not to do anything one wants to do, wishes to do or should do, it is only a challenge to do those things in a different way from others, it is a challenge to kick the mind awake and into action, to see beyond what our physical bodies can do for us and consider what we can do for our bodies.

Nick Vujicic was born without limbs, his birth put him at a seemingly disadvantaged position but he never allowed his lack of limbs limit his life, he once said, “I am officially disabled, but I am truly enabled because of my lack of limbs. My unique challenges have opened up unique opportunities to reach so many in need.” His disability became a blessing to him and many others because he was not ready to allow his physical disability affect his mental ability.

Cobhams Asuquo was born blind, today he is one of Nigeria's most talented producer, and artiste; Stevie Wonder attained legendary status as a musician and singer-songwriter despite being born blind; American author, political activist, and lecturer, Helen Keller was both deaf and blind and eventually became the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree paving way for many others like her; Stephen Hawking, Ralph Braun, Frida Kahlo, John Nash, Andrea Boccelli, Aaron Fotheringham, Yinka Ayefele, and many more are people who in spite of their physical disabilities, some not from birth never gave up their pursuit for a better life, they never gave in to the disability of the body, but strengthened themselves from within to become legends, and inspiration in their own right to everyone. There is no disability except in your mind, and that is the worst kind of all.

If man knew he had no alternative to what he has, he would not bother himself about looking for anything else, he will be sincerely satisfied with what he has, but the reality of alternatives has put men on their toes in search of a better, more convenient and comfortable life. As Maya Angelou once said, "Children's talent to endure stems from their ignorance of alternatives." Only the ignorance of alternatives can keep one from seeking alternatives, and make him endure the status quo.

A world without alternative is a world without problems, there will be no option, so, there will be nothing to clamour for, except that which one already has. War would have been a norm if there was no peace; hatred would have been a norm if there was no love; famine, and hunger would have been a norm if there was no food, nor abundance of food. There is always an alternative to every situation, it may not be an easy one but it is quite an attainable one.

Sometimes, alternatives are difficult to get, they may even be intentionally ceased by people who have it and want to keep it exclusively theirs, they intend to keep it amongst a very few who will benefit excessively from it. This is a deliberate act to keep people incapacitated and weak, making them to beg for what rightfully should be theirs. You must fill yourself with hope of the better alternative, you must fight for what you know is best for you even if you haven't experienced it before, you must not be weary until you get what is rightfully yours.

Jodi Picoult once said, "Choices are funny things, ask a native tribe that has eaten grubs and roots forever if they are unhappy, and they will shrug. But give them filet mignon and truffle sauce and then ask them to go back to living off the land, and they will always be thinking of that gourmet meal. If you don't know there's an alternative, you can't miss it." But once an alternative is known, seen, perceived, heard, and it is better than the status quo it will surely be missed, and earnestly craved for. We will continue to crave for the alternative of our dreams.

Thoughts are primarily the products of another man's perception, no one can force another man's thought into acceptance for anyone else. Every man has the right to accept or dispel external thoughts, but every man also has the right to hold firmly his own thoughts. It is the mark of an enlightened mind to entertain another man's thought, but not accept it. Before we can completely discard someone's thought, we must be sure it is of no use to us, we must be certain that, that thought will not yield us our required results, or is contrary to our own thoughts and belief.

Some people allow themselves to be controlled by other men's thoughts, they live life based on what someone else thinks is right or wrong for them, thereby leaving their progress, and success in the hands of other men. On the other hand, some does not care to consider if the thoughts shared with them is of any real value or importance, they just discard without proper scrutiny. A tree does not make a forest, so can a man not succeed on his own, one who would go far must go with people of like minds.

A man whose opinions and thoughts are unchanging and rigid is a man who will struggle to move forward, his mind will stay stagnant, he will not be refreshed by new ideas, and varying thoughts from other bright minds from whom he can weigh his thoughts and opinions on a balance. As William Blake would say, "The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

We must always keep an open mind, and allow rationality and logic be our basic guide towards accepting or disregarding thoughts, opinions, and ideas of others. We don't always have to accept, but we must always give a chance for everyone to express themselves and we must be ready to entertain their thoughts but not necessarily accept them. We should not always arrive at conclusions having not examined all facts and factors, and proving beyond reasonable doubts the validity of the subject matter, this is the mark of a truly enlightened mind.

Principles are the rules and laws that guides the events and happenings of life and nature. When principles are being neglected and the privileges are being coveted irreparable disaster looms. One must follow and abide by the principles of life if he must enjoy the privileges that is birthed by obeying those principles. We cannot continue to expect living a good life while we constantly negate the process required to live that good life. The privileges of a principle can not be separated from that principle.

As said Charlotte Brontë that, "Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation: they are for such moments as this, when body and soul rise in mutiny against their rigour ... If at my convenience I might break them, what would be their worth?" Principles would be worth nothing if grounds are being shifted to one's convenience, there are no reasons for which one should suspend principles or else it would cease to become principles.

Jimmy Carter once said, "We must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles." Times and seasons does not change principles, but different principles may govern different times and seasons. Changes are constant, choices are always made and one's choices always determines what becomes of that man. Our passion guide our principles, and they always lead to the same results.

If you change your opinions, do not change your principles, though flexibility is needed, your principles must be intact; if you change your leaves, ensure to keep your roots intact, because if you change your roots you will fall, no tree changes roots while standing. You must ensure you stand on the right principles, and then stand by it unwavering, never compromise your principles even if it leads to short term inconveniences, guide your principles, cherish them and keep them close to your heart, you will soon reap the reward of your consistency.

There is no middle ground for anything or anyone in the world, one can either be on the left side or right side, one can either be wrong or right, you can either move forward or go backwards. Choosing to be neutral is choosing to be negative and stagnancy is only a form of retrogression. A man who cannot decide where to stand, will fall for anything. As Theodore Roosevelt would say, "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing." standing in between is the worst decision any man can make because, you are actually standing for nothing, and when retribution comes for either side you will share in it, but unfortunately when the rewards come to any of the sides you may not be permitted to partake in it.

Indecision is a deadly time wasting and effort sapping activity, it deprives one of moving forward and even draws one backwards to territories he has previously overcame. As much as one must give careful attention to decision making, one must not be too hesitant in making his decisions, as said George W. Cecil, "On the plains of hesitation bleach the bones of countless millions who, at the dawn of decision, sat down to wait, and waiting died." Wrong decisions may be risky to make, but the terror that attends to indecisiveness is terrible and unbearable.

In the words of Muhammad Ali Jinnah who was the founder and first Governor-General of the Pakistani nation he said, "Think 100 times before you take a decision, But once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man." Decision making is a process that should not be rashly attended to, but given careful consideration before conclusion, but once a decision has been made, one must stand full-throated by it.

Your destiny and future is shaped by the decisions you make, or did not make. You learn from wrong decisions, but you regret indecision. Never choose to stay in the middle, a soldier does not go to battle just to stand neutral he would die like a chick. A soldier goes to battle to fight, if he wins, he comes back home singing victory songs, if he does not he dies a hero. Better die a hero standing for a worthy cause than die a chicken standing for no cause at all.

If we must be progressive sojourners on our paths to our desired future, we must learn to do the right things in every situation we may find ourselves. The past is a critical path of our journey only to the extent to which we can learn from it. The past cannot be changed or altered, it is gone but we can make a better future from it by learning from the mistakes, or the good deeds, otherwise, we just leave it where it belongs. The past you have known, today you are living, the future you are yet to see. If your past wasn't good enough, it should be forgotten and let go.

Now is the time to plan for, live for, and create the future we want to see and have, the future we want to live in. The past is gone, the future is uncertain, but now is ours to maximise or waste, whatever we do with our now we reap in our tomorrow. Our future depends on our today, and begs us to make proper use of our today so we can have a happy tomorrow. We must plan for the future, but we can only do that by living in the present. As Mother Theresa would say, "Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin." for the tomorrow you want, start living now.

The future holds for us unimaginably huge, and glorious realities, it is pregnant with what we put in it yesterday, when it finally arrives, we will either be happy we did what we could, or regret the things we didn't do. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Belief, faith, and hope are the fuel that drives us towards the realization of our dreams, we must continually sustain our belief in the possible realisation of our dreams, or risk an empty, and miserable future.

The only place perfection resides is in the future because, we are yet to get there, but the present is where the fun of planning, working, and living is, never waste today looking back into the past. As Roy T. Bennett said, "Do not let the memories of your past limit the potential of your future. There are no limits to what you can achieve on your journey through life, except in your mind." Clear your mind of clutters, fill it with dreams of a great and pleasant future, run towards that future, and its portals will open unto you good fortunes.

Giving is not giving when it is done with the intention to show off or as a seed planted to reap from. When we give we must do so with the genuine intention to help the person to whom we give, rather than to seek special recognition, respect, or reward. The kind of giving that comes from a pure heart, that expects nothing in return is special and have its own quality, it is the kind of giving that inspires the receiver to become a giver. As Simon Sinek would say, "Don't give to get. Give to inspire others to give."

Our lives is not to be lived just for our own self, our life is to be lived in a way that it impact and inspire others to live a full life and not just for themselves but for others also. If our existence was just for ourselves, why then did we come here? Why were we born? Why did we have to pursue purpose? If we were to live for ourselves alone, when we leave this earth, all we would have achieved will also leave with us or be wasted away. If we must truly live, we must do things for people and for our world which we do not really expect to benefit from, as Nelson Henderson said, "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit."

Giving is an act of love, and love has nothing to do with what you get, love is always about what you expect to give. Love gives unconditionally, irrespective of what happens and is never tired of giving except it is no more love. Giving is not only about the material given, it is about the heart, it is about the condition of the mind. Though the substance given may finish the act never dies, it endures longer. The man who gives never lacks, not because he will always have, but because he will always give, he sees nothing as his own but as for the one who needs it most.

Give all you can: laughter, smile, love, kindness, a helping hand expecting nothing in return and you will always get, not in measures you have given, but in far greater measures. Nature and the universe will always favour the giver, the kind hearted, and the helper. Roy T. Bennett encapsulates it with these words, "Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance."

Our current reality is a manifestation of our past imaginations, everything that exists today was once an imagination in the mind of someone. It was William Blake who said, "What is now proved was once only imagined." creation must first be preceded by imagination, nothing can be created unless it is first imagined. Even man was first imagined in the mind of God before he was created. Reality is limited, but imagination is unlimited, you can only go as far as you can imagine, and if you imagine more you will go further.

Albert Einstein once said, "Imagination is everything, it is the preview of life's coming attraction." you can see the future through your imagination, but that future can only become a reality if we will be determined to work towards achieving what we have imagined. What is invisible to the eyes, when imagined is crystal clear to the mind. The mind knows no boundaries, it is unlimited, and can go to any length as far as we can allow. We cannot continue to live within our reality else we risk retrogression.

In the words of Jonas Salk, "Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality." Our reality is hinged on our imagination, we must see for ourselves what we hope to see, to have, and to get or we get nothing at all. Imagination is our wings to fly into an unknown future, it is the beginning of creation, it is the golden pathway to our dreams. At the court of imagination, reality bows, imagination is the key to unknown abundance.

We must always look forward into our future through our imaginations, not look backwards into the reality of our past. The past is gone, the future is yet unseen, but can be made visible through our imagination. Denis Waitley said, "You have all the reason in the world to achieve your grandest dreams. Imagination plus innovation equals realization." live out your imagination, pursue your wildest dreams, there is no limit to what you can achieve or become, reach for the skies, trust your abilities, and life will make straight your path to greatness.

Life is strictly a personal journey, and achieving one's dreams and life purpose is entirely one's responsibility, no one is obliged to either approve or disapprove our deeds, pursuit, dreams, or actions, it is solely ours to determine what we do, or do not do. No man can please everyone, and anyone who tries to please others do so at the detriment of his own life and future. You are not supposed to please others you are supposed to please yourself, but not in ways that hurts others. In fact, the best way to please yourself is to help others live a fulfilled and happy life.

People's displeasure at you, or your deeds may not be because of the correctness or incorrectness of what you do, or who you are but what they cannot do, or who they cannot become. It could also rise from envy or jealousy. Though no one has the right to criticise what you do, you can wisely decipher what criticisms are constructive and intended to put you right when you go wrong. Criticisms are to be weighed, sieved, and carefully selected, not all are to be taken in hook, line, and sinker, and not all are to be completely dispersed.

Wrong is wrong no matter how many people does it, say or think it is right, and right is right even if no one agrees it is right. So, if you are doing the right thing keep doing it, and if you are doing wrong it will do you a whole lot of good to have a rethink and change your ways because, whatever you sow you will surely reap, however, if you do wrong ignorantly, be intentional about your quest to do good and follow the path of doing good.

Pursue the dreams that makes you happy, go for that which gives you the most joy, live a life of purpose, and irrespective of what people say never consider quitting. As long as you don't hurt anyone in the pursuit of your dreams, and it makes you feel fulfilled. You will be unstoppable if you remain determined, and focused. Shut your ears to the noise of those whose only interest is to bring you down, slow you down or hinder you from achieving your desired goals. Your destiny is yours to achieve, the licence to your greatness is in your hands, do not let yourself down, go for gold.

Every individual has the right to a his personal space, freedom of speech, movement, and so on as set out in the United States of America's declaration of independence "...that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." though this belongs to the United States of America, it is relevant and applicable to all human beings in every nation of the earth.

These rights as free and documented as they are, some men are bent on depriving other men their rights; they are so infuriated by the possibility of an equal society where every one will live the life they choose to live; they want to create a huge gap between themselves and other men, leaving them the privilege of dictating and controlling them at their will and wish. These men are willing to go any length to ensure that these happens and stay that way, they act in deception of care for the people but are actually seeking to torment them.

Seeing the societal decadence and determination of some people to keep others down, every man must fight to protect his own rights, life, dreams, and all he holds dear, no one will give any one the free way to do what they want to do, but anyone who wants to do a thing must fight for that which he earnestly want to do. Emancipate yourself from every form of slavery, mental, spiritual, physical, and in any wise; protect your humanity, protect your positive self esteem, none else can do that as you would.

You are the guardian of your own life, dreams, and purpose; your life is your sole responsibility to build; you don't hand over your life to another man, they will use it as it pleases them, and ignore what pleases you; the key to your happiness is in your hands, don't give it to another. "Never be bullied into silence. Harvey Fierstein once said, "Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself." your future is past is gone, your today, and your tomorrow are yours to make or mar, choose wisely.

No knowledge however strange, common, little, or huge is ever a waste. The human brain is so large that there shouldn't be any scare of running out of space in one's lifetime, as it is capable of storing and accumulating over one million gigabytes of information, so, you may care to know everything about everything, nothing stops you, you can know just enough but, you can't know too much. The scary thing is no matter how much you know, you can say too much, and too much of words may get one into an undesirable situation.

As humans we must crave, pursue, and strive to get more knowledge every waking day, learning should be a lifetime and lifelong process for us, there is certainly no harm in learning everyday and getting more information but there is great risk in truncating our learning process. Henry Ford once said, "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." in fact any one who stops learning is dead while still living.

It was Anthony Liccione who said, "A fool is made more of a fool, when their mouth is more open than their mind." people of great intellectual knowledge, and wisdom are rarely so much of noise makers, they are very much reserved and speak less unless it is very crucial they say more. Only fools say more than is expected of them. So many are those who have nothing to say but go around saying something declaring openly their stupidity, and so many are the ones who have so much to say can't because someone who doesn't have something to say is always saying something.

Better be a learner than a sayer, better be a doer than a talker, actions speaks louder than voice, if you want to effect a change in the world you better start acting towards it rather than talking about it, when people see your actions, they will join you in the race towards that desired change. Talk is cheap, the difficult thing is acting, that is why weak people talk rather than get into action, while the wise and the strong get into action without much talk. There is so much to learn and do, do more, learn more and talk less.

There are no easy sails anywhere, there are only determined sailors who are ready to take the risks, and make the sail in spite of fiery storms. Life is no easy ride, the pursuit of success, and happiness is a battle that can only be won by those who disregard the fierceness of the war, but forge ahead towards their dreams; who keep their gaze on the goal rather than the barrier standing before them; who in spite of their weaknesses stood firm for the purpose for which they are here; who are relentless, and unwilling to give up until the battle is over and won.

Former Canadian ice hockey player and Hall of Famer Wayne D. Gretzky once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." you can not sit still without an actual intention to change things and expect that something will happen, you must shoot at your goals if you must have any chance of achieving it, you must take the first step to begin the journey to your desired destination if you will get there at all. You cannot wait any longer to perfect your shooting skills, you must begin to take your shots, and the more shots you take the better you become at taking the next.

You must magnify your goals and abate the barriers and challenges that tends to limit your progress. More attention must be paid to your goals and less attention to your challenges because, you give power to what you focus on. Nothing should be powerful enough to stand in the way of your dreams. Your dreams should drive you to action and keep you going irrespective of what happens.

There is calm, peace, and fulfillment on the other side of the storm, but the only way there is through the storm; darkness always rule the tunnel, but there is light at the end of that tunnel; the night is always darkest just before the day. Battles are won on the battlefields not in bases, "a ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for." (John A. Shedd); airplanes are safe in the hangars, but they are made to fly. Never get too comfortable in your comfort zone, your best life is out there go for it, and achieve your wildest dreams.

A life spent in gathering and accruing personal wealth to one's self without tangible impact on other people's life is not a well lived life, no matter how wealthy such a one becomes. The true purpose of life is to live a life of purpose, and a purpose that does not supercede one's personal gains is not a worthy purpose. One who has not found a purpose for his life, must as a matter of urgency begin the ultimate search for purpose, and the one who have found purpose must work day and night in consistent pursuit of fulfilling that purpose.

All men die, but their deeds never die, the deeds men do live long after they have gone. What a man does in deeds are determined by the purpose of that man. Our minds must be completely occupied with the thoughts of the kind of legacies and memories we wish to leave behind. We must not be drawn into pursuing another man's dreams, and fulfilling another man's purpose unless our purpose is to help him fulfil his purpose. Every man was created for a specific purpose, and failing to achieve that purpose is failing the the Giver of purpose, the universe, one's country, family, all who rely on us to achieve their own purpose, and one's self.

When one dies and all that can be said, or remembered about that person was that he lived, such person did not truly live but, when one dies and a lot are being said about his deeds, the people he helped, the impact he had on people, how well he did what he did, and what more he would have done if he was still living, then such a person has lived a purposeful life. Ralph Waldo Emerson also said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." What do you live for, yourself? How do you want to be remembered? What are you doing to make the world a better place for others to live in? What you do for yourself dies with you, but what you do for others live long after you have gone, make wise choices, live a purpose driven life, and immortality will trail you even in death.

Day 278 of wisdom

There exist nothing better, more powerful, and more beautiful than LOVE. Love is the reason the world has not been torn into pieces, love is the reason most of us came into this world, without love darkness would have taken absolute control of the world, love is the sweetest. Helen Keller said, "The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart." You cannot see love, but you can see someone that has been loved, or someone that loves; you cannot hear love, but you can hear someone that have received or gave love; you cannot hold love but you can hold someone in love.

In the words of Khalil Gibran, "Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit." without love one cannot truly fulfill destiny, without love life will seem like a journey to nowhere, without love the essence of life is defeated. Love is not just to be received, it must also be given because as Lao Tzu said, "Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." Strength and courage is needed so giving, and receiving love is necessary.

The Apostle named Paul spoke extensively about love in his first letter written to the Corinthians in the third to eighth verses of the thirteenth chapter, "If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all. Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening]. Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away." ...but love never pass away.

You give love by showing kindness to those who need it, by giving an helping hand to someone who is falling, by giving a smile to a sad, depressed soul, by bringing light to the darkness in another man's world. "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope." said Maya Angelou. Love never dies, it lives long after the giver is gone, love today, live forever.

Day 277 of wisdom

The road less travelled is oftentimes the most difficult, scariest, and toughest road, but that road most often lead to the greatest successes that anyone can achieve in life. The road less traveled always turn out to have the best end. Most people gravitate towards the easy life, they tend to always want to do the easy things, pass through the short cuts, and arrive at the best destinations but, success does not just come that easy. 

The thirteenth and fourteenth verses of Matthew chapter seven said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life, and there are few who find it.” which way would you go the one found by many but leads to destruction, loss, and doom, or that which leads to bliss, joy and happiness but not travelled by many.

Most people are ready to do what is just necessary for success, most are willing to go the distance, but not everyone is ready to do the extra, go the extra mile, but the extra is always the difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary. It is on the extra mile the greatest winners are found. Everyone can become extraordinary only if they are willing to do the extra, the extraordinary people in the world are all ordinary people who did not stop at the ordinary but added extra to their ordinary.

If you must have tomorrow what others won't have, you must do today what others won't do and that is going the extra mile, doing more when others have done enough. Impossibility is made possible when the extra is added. Natalie Goldberg said, "We must remember that everything is ordinary and extraordinary.  It is our minds that either open or close." If is our mindset that determines what we achieve, a closed mind will be limited to the the ordinary, but an open mind will open up space for the extraordinary.

Day 276 of wisdom

In a marathon race, it is not always all that start that gets to the finish line, and there is no reward for starting, you only receive rewards for finishing, and finishing well. Achieving one's dreams is like running a marathon, you don't get to receive the rewards or actualise that dream if you quit, you must consistently run in the direction of your dreams without looking back or else you will run for nothing. One who would reap the full rewards, and dividends of his effort must work unrelentingly until he has completed work and mission.

Many have lost great rewards because they lack character, the character to try again, and again, and again until they win. It always gets harder when the finish line is near but if you persist you will surely get to the finish line and that is where the reward is. When the going gets tough, the touch always get going, the question is, are you tough enough to get going? Nelson Mandela once said, "it always seem impossible until it is done" Everyone who have achieved something would have at one time be told it wasn't possible, but they never allowed the impossibility of the task hinder them from trying it, and they made it possible.

Dale Carnegie said, “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.” When there seems to be no way forward; when all hopes are lost and gone; when we stand face to face with the brick wall, and it seems to be stronger than us; when it seems we have come to the end of the road, and we keep pushing, that is where and when true breakthrough, and the greatest rewards are birthed.

You don't fail, unless you stop trying, as long as you keep moving forward your reward is a guarantee, and long as quitting is not considered success is just a matter of time. You can go slowly, but you can not give up; you can back up, relax to refresh and refire, but you can not give up. You don't start just to give up halfway, you start to finish and get a reward for your troubles. Jim Rohn once asked one very germane question he said, “How long should you try? Until...” You must try until you win, until you get what you want, until your dream is achieved, until you have gotten to the finish line.
