Day 97 of wisdom
“Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.”
Chili Davis
Growing old is what happens to a man everyday he wakes up, growing up is what he takes responsibility for in his life, and what he becomes. Growing old is a phenomenon that requires no effort at all to achieve, one does not have to do anything to grow old, the mere fact that he wakes up everyday is a testament to his growing old, but growing up take much more than just sleeping and waking, growing up requires work.
Growing up means waking up to the realities of life, taking responsibility for one's life, and being ready to pay the price for a better life. Growing up requires determination, hard work, commitment, dedication, and sacrifice towards a desired result, or outcome.
Growing old, is like having a tree grow without yielding fruits, the tree becomes useless, and a waste of resources, but a tree that has grown up would definitely yield fruit to be enjoyed by those who planted it, and all those that pass by it.
To live a complete, and balanced life, one must in addition to growing old which is a mandatory process, grow up. One must give all it takes to grow up while growing old. Size, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, strength, composure, are all characteristics of a grown up man. Growing up is a wholesome, and complete process, and one must endeavour to go through the entire process, for proper growth to be achieved.
To grow up you must feed your mind with the food it needs for growth: reading books, exploring, acquiring knowledge and gaining experience for these will positively affect a man's growth rate.
Are you just growing old, or growing up?
