366 days of wisdom (April 19, 2020)

Day 110 of wisdom

“Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.”

Hansa Proverb

Life does not always give us all we need, and desire. Sometimes, we receive only a fraction of what we earnestly crave for, but our reaction to what we receive will determine how much more, or less we would ever receive again. Someone once said, “gratitude turns what we have into enough”, this can't be far from the truth, as gratitude is revealed in contentment, and contentment is the satisfaction we derive in what we have no matter how little.

A Yoruba proverb when translated says, “if a child is thankful for yesterday's good deed, he will receive another”, gratitude always open the door for more. We may not always get what we want from life, but we must always be grateful for what we get, because what we are grateful for we receive more of.

Dale Carnegie, in one of his books wrote “it isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it” what you think about your current situation determines your happiness, or unhappiness. If you must find happiness, you must think contentment, you think gratitude, and you must appreciate all you have, and you will receive more.

There is no greater gain than being content, and having the fear of God. Be grateful for the little, be thankful for what you have, and you will receive more of what you want. Godliness with contentment is great gain.
