Day 170 of wisdom
“He that loves reading has everything within his reach.”
William Godwin
Strickland Gillian could not have said it in a better way when he said, "You may have tangible wealth untold; caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be. I had a mother who read to me." One who is a reader has the world at his feet, he has the key to greatness, and in his custody are the hidden treasures of the whole world.
In this modern age, and time of human development, advancement in technology, and civilization the power that comes through reading cannot be overemphasized. Reading is the fuel that drives the personal development, and growth of any human being. Reading broadens the mind, and enables one to see beyond the world around him, reading gives one wings to fly.
Frederick Douglass said "once you learn to read, you will be forever free." One who have learnt the art of reading can never be bound again, even in prison. Freedom is not the of movement, or something of the ability to do what one wishes to do at any moment, true freedom is in the mind, it is the ability to look forward into the brightness of the future, and see clearly what it holds for you.
The best legacy, or gift you can give to any man is the ability to be able to read, the best gift parents can give their children is the gift of reading, and good books. Garrison Keillor once said, "A book is a gift you can open again and again." Whenever one opens a book, it brings new light to the mind, books are the path to an unseen future, and the vehicle to an unexperienced past.
