366 days of wisdom (June 15, 2020)

Day 167 of wisdom

“Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.”

Booker T. Washington

An African Proverb says “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The place, and power of association cannot be overemphasized in our quest for achieving success. We can go fast as a one man army, our speed may not be matched by any other on our journey to our desired, dreamed, and expected future.

As important and crucial keeping company may be, care must be given to the kinds of company one keeps, good company moves you forward, and to your desired future, but bad company destroys, and disrupts your journey to your dream future. 1 Corinthians  15:33 admonished us saying, "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." A person of good character, and manners would have his manners soiled if he gets into communion with people of questionable character, and would be worse for it.

Charles Darwin once said "It is the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) that those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed." Without collaboration success, victory, and achievement would not be very easy, but when people come together for a unique, mutually beneficial, and progressive course they achieve it more quickly, easily, and qualitatively.

Michael Jordan also said "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships." Individuality can move you forward fast, but teamwork, good company, and positive association takes you far in life, just like Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." If we must do well in life, we have to play our part on our journey, and we must also collaborate appropriately to get to our desired destination.
