Day 166 of wisdom

“We can never be the better for our religion if our neighbours is the worse for it.”

William Penn

The Google dictionary in oxford languages defined religion as "the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods." But religion in the real sense of it is more than just the belief, and the worship, religion is more about the way we live our lives, and how it affects, or impacts others. Religion is more of how our daily lives makes a difference in our world.

If our neighbours does not enjoy the benefit of our religion from us; if they don't live better lives as a result of our religion; if they are intimidated, tormented, and unhappy by us, or with us our religion is of no use, it is of no benefit, and of no importance to humanity. Our religion should not only make us better, but also everyone around us, in fact any religion that does not make our neighbours better can not make us better either.

We can not be the only beneficiaries of our own religion, we live in a world that has become a global village, everyone one on earth is our neighbour, and if we would as a result of our religious belief cause harm to any of our neighbours we have not found a religion. Our way of live must be that which is mutually beneficial to us and everyone we come across.

This quote by Thomas Paine sums it all up more succinctly, he said, "the World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and kindness is my religion." Make kindness, doing good, helping others, showing love, and justice seeking your habit towards your fellow men backed up by your belief, and worship in the most Supreme, then you have a religion. Religion is not practiced on a day of the week, religion is your lifestyle, it is practiced throughout your lifetime.
