366 days of wisdom (May 27, 2020)

Day 148 of wisdom

“The book of life is filled with incoherent riddles. Life's true lessons are inscribed in a corner of the margin.”

Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates said, "true wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us." The moment we believe we know so much about life, that moment we declare our ignorance, and deprive ourselves the privilege to know, and understand more.

The things we think are the most important are actually the most insignificant, and most inconsequential, they seem important because we have placed a lot of importance on them, but life's most important things are the ones we have failed to give much attention to. The true lessons of life are the ones we do not easily recognize, and see as important. They are the lessons that gives us the greatest, and most important experiences of life.

Sometimes, the more you try to sort out life, the more puzzling, and confusing it gets. We must learn to learn, unlearn, and relearn, we must be willing to let life take its due course when we cannot do anything to alter the progression of events, and happenings. We must seek to understand, not just to know, knowing limits our knowledge, but understanding opens us up to know more.

J. L. Huie said expressly that, "Life is a riddle. We cannot expect to understand life's twists and turns as they occur each day, and we greatly frustrate ourselves in the futile attempt. Be content to appreciate that there is an overarching purpose, though that purpose be known only to God, and to history. Choose service. Choose joy. Accept the unknowing."
