Day 123 of wisdom
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
John Quincy Adams
Leadership is not about titles, position, rank, or office; leadership is about responsibility, influence, and effect. Stature, skin colour, age, and wealth are irrelevant when leadership is being discussed. A leader is someone who takes responsibility not just for himself, but for others also. Someone who cares, is empathetic, and loving, someone who seeks the best for others.
However successful a man is, he is not a leader if he cannot replicate his success in another man. World renowned leadership expert, and coach John C. Maxwell opined that, “a successful person finds the right place for himself. But a successful leader finds the right place for others.” Being a successful leader is making others successful.
Every man has a circle of influence, he can either choose to be among the crowd within his circle of influence, or stand out, and lead the crowd through differing means, skills, and means of leadership. He can take on the responsibility to liberate, enlighten, educate, unite, or do whatever may be necessary for the growth, progress, and success of those in his circle of influence.
If by your actions, others are inspired to be more, eager to learn more, dream to be better persons, and encouraged to live their best life, you are a leader. You need no coronation, induction, installation or swearing in, you are already leading, and you should not be discouraged in continuing your leadership deeds, but keep building yourself to be a better version of yourself, and you will find more space for growth and development.
Leadership is everything, as John Maxwell said, “everything rises, and falls on leadership.” Take the mantle, take the lead.
