366 days of wisdom (May 25, 2020)

Day 146 of wisdom

“No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.”

Calvin Coolidge

There is no honour in living for one's self, but there is great honour in living for others. True wealth is not in what one has, but in what one is able to give. Manoj Arora once said, "Your wealth is not defined by your capacity to accumulate, rather by your capacity to give away." One who has but does not give has nothing, but one who out of little finds a way to give is the one who has much.

Joseph Campbel said, "a hero is someone who has given his life to something bigger than himself or something other than himself." You cannot become something, or someone great if you live solely for yourself, you must live for a purpose bigger, greater, and better than just you if you want to achieve greatness.

A seed that remains to itself will never become a tree, it will never produce other seeds, it will not grow beyond being a seed, but when it is planted, buried, and dead in the ground it will sprout, grow, and become a tree which will produce fruits, seeds, and other things for the use of everyone who has the privilege to come across it, and benefit from it. In James Allen's words who said "he who would accomplish much must sacrifice much."

If you must live long, live for others; if you must leave a long lasting positive impact in the life of others, you must live for the happiness of others, and help them live better lives. We don't lose whatever we give, we only multiply it, it is what we keep that we lose. We don't achieve greatness by holding on to something, we achieve greatness through great commitment, and sacrifice.
