Day 223 of wisdom

“Are your habits moving you toward your life goals? Or are they keeping you stuck in place?”

Jonathan Lockwood Huie

We have arrived at our current position in life as a result of our habits. Habits are the daily routine that has been ingrained into our mental fabrics over time, they are the things we do seamlessly, we do them without deep thoughts, and they bring us to the destination for which they must take us to. Our habits will either make, or mar us, they either move us closer to our heart desires, or take us far away from it.

Our habit is the most important tool on our journey to success, we may be motivated, or inspired to do a thing, but if we do not have the right habit we will not get anything done. Like Octavia Butler said “First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not.” when there is no more motivation to carry on, it is our habit that sustains, and get us going.

Are your habits moving you forward? Are they moving you towards your life goals? Or are they keeping you stuck, and stagnant in place? Are your habits positive, or negative? Your answers to these questions will determine if you should consolidate on your habit, or find a way to change them. Good habits can be improved, and bad habits can be changed.

Changing an habit is a gradual process, habit does not change in an instant, in the words of Mark Twain who said “habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.” when we want to change an habit we must be willing to patiently, and gradually follow through the processes until the effect is reached. We must understand that our habits are our responsibility, and we can change them to align us on our path to achieving our life goals.
