Day 216 of wisdom

“Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust.”

Jesse Owens

The most valuable things in our lives are not the physical possessions we have, they are not the things we have gathered over time, the most valuable things are the people we allow into our lives, the people we share our time, and valuable moments with. Our physical possession will get exhausted, fade away, corrode, and vanish, but the people in our lives will always be there, friends never rust nor gather dust, they are always renewed, and refreshed as the times go by.

A common Yoruba saying goes "eniyan laso mi" which when literally translated says "human is my clothing" and by implication means, the people around me are the reasons I am become a better person, they are the reason I am living a good, and impressive life. The impact people have on our lives cannot be overemphasized. Though we really need material things to have a good life, we wouldn't enjoy our life if we do not have the right people around us.

"Friends are the family you choose." Jess C. Scott said, we don't have the privilege to choose who our parents, and siblings are, but it is solely our responsibility to choose our friends. We must therefore be very careful the kind of friends we choose, as they have it in their hands to either make us, or mar us. Good friends are the most valuable assets we will ever acquire, and keeping them should be our priority.

Marcel Proust said "Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." We must cherish the good friends in our lives, give them the best regards they deserve, for they give us reasons to carry on in the journey of life, they are the ones who brighten our paths, lighten our burdens, and bring joy to our hearts. They are the Most Valuable Players (MVPs).
