Day 244 of wisdom

“Predicting rain doesn't count, building the ark does.”

Warren Buffet

A farmer that expects the rain, but sit idly without tilling the ground, and burying some seeds in it will reap the reward of his indolence when the harvest arrives. It is not enough to know, neither is it enough to plan, if we must achieve our dreams, we must go beyond wishing, and planning we must put in hard work, and determination to ensure our dreams come life. In the words of Dwight D. Eisenhower who said, "Good planning without good working is nothing" if you plan and not work you have done nothing.

As important, and indespensable as planning could be, it is useless if it is not worked upon. Richard Wheeler said, "The person who would like to make his dreams come true MUST STAY AWAKE." staying awake is being ready to execute, it is rolling up your sleeves, and getting to work, it is doing whatever it takes to realize your heart desires.

Sometimes we get insight into what is to come, we see beyond the present, and are able to predict the future. When these things happen, it is best we act in that moment rather than wait for our predictions to come upon us unprepared. Jim Rohn once said sarcastically, "If it's raining you can't fix the roof, if it's not raining it doesn't need to be fixed" the best time to do any thing is when there is no pressure to do it, when the pressure to do it comes, it may become either difficult, or impossible to do. Noah did not build the ark during the rain, he built it before the rain.

Our best life is yet ahead of us, it unfolds as the days go by, but we must be well prepared to meet that life with proper planning, and readiness to put in the necessary work, coupled with the willingness to tap into the abundance that is stuffed into each day. Work towards improving your skills, your talents, and abilities are not given to you for nothing, put it to maximum use. Cease every opportunity to grow, make learning a daily habit , and you will not be far from living your true life.

Day 243 of wisdom

“Keep in touch without touching.”

Amit Abraham

You don't want to regret what you said, or did to someone when you hear that person is no more. People move about not carrying on their faces the challenges they are constantly battling with. Every man has his own secret battles, but the magnitude of one man's battle may not be in any way comparable to what the other is facing. A popular Yoruba saying goes, "Gbogbo alangba lo d'anu dele, a ko mo eyi t'inu nrun" meaning "all lizards lie flat on their stomach, it is difficult to determine which has a stomach ache." You can't read people's problems on their faces therefore, you can't assume everybody is just all right.

If you cannot make a person's life better through your words, and actions, do not make it more miserable; do not be the reason someone's frustration is deepened; do not make yourself the source of someone's misery, and discouragement. Life is already very hard for so many people, do not make it harder, rather strive to become a burden bearer, try to make people happy whenever you are in sight, be the person people want to speak to when they are in despair. Let your words lift, let your actions gladden people's heart, and mind.

In the words of Misbah Khan "touching people’s hearts through your words is the only job that you could do and nobody has to hire you for it." as humans we must be interested in the welfare of everyone around us, and take responsibility for the growth of our society. No one has to pay us for doing the good that we do, it is what should keep us going, we should seek to continue doing good no matter our condition. We must not only seek our own comfort, but that of everyone around us. Life becomes better for everyone, when we all seek the peace of mind, and happiness of each other. The secret to a better world is being our brother's keeper. Touch lives today, share a smile, spread some love, cheer some hearts.

366 days of wisdom (August 29, 2020)

Day 242 of wisdom

“The best advice about getting older? Just be thankful you're not dead!”

Chadwick Boseman

The gift of life is the most precious gift we can ever receive, and every passing day is an opportunity to live life for the greater good of the human race. Every waking day must be an opportunity to be grateful, thankful, and appreciative of the rare privilege to breathe a bit longer than some others. When we show gratitude for what we receive today, we will most likely get another tomorrow, and even more.

Someone once said, "Life is God's gift to us, what we do with life is our gift to God" we don't always expect good, and not give anything in return. The whole essence of life is to please our maker, to live for the purpose for which He created us. we are here today, we may not be around tomorrow, but whatever we do with our today will determine our tomorrow, either here, or in the afterlife.

In the words of Melody Beattie “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” gratitude is the key to a happy and fulfilling life, it reminds us of yesterday's good, encourage us to live in today, and brightens our hopes of a greater future. Henri Frederic Amiel said, “Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.”

Many were with us yesterday, but are no more today, we are here today not for our ability to do some things better than other people, or that we are more valuable than they are. We have been privileged, and opportuned to be alive today, we must not take the opportunity for granted, we must not waste our life, and time, we must make our life count, because it is the reason we are alive.

366 days of wisdom (August 28, 2020)

Day 241 of wisdom

“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

A man who believes in himself is a man who is unstoppable, he is a man who will not be intimidated with whatever happens, he is undeterred by obstructions, obstacles, and limitations, he only has his sight on his goal, and how to achieve it. There is magic in believing in yourself, and the results of that magic is the unstoppability of character, and attitude. When all strength is gone, and everything seems to be against one, self belief is what keeps one going.

Author of 'The light in the heart' Roy T. Bennett said, "Live the Life of Your Dreams When you start living the life of your dreams, there will always be obstacles, doubters, mistakes and setbacks along the way. But with hard work, perseverance, and self-belief there is no limit to what you can achieve." self belief is the key to great achievements, people's belief in you can only encourage you to belief in yourself, it will never push you to action.

Limitations exist only in the head, achieving your dreams, and visions is solely dependent on you, and no one else. Only you determines if you will succeed or not. The 26th president of the United States of America Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can and you're halfway there.” your belief will take you the distance to which you permit it to go. The farther you think you can go, the farther you will go.

As much as believing will take you so far, believing alone cannot guarantee success, if you must succeed, you must add to your believe action, and hard work. It is not enough to believe you can make it, you must put your hands, and feet to work, you must work hard towards achieving that dream you so much believe in. If believe will take you halfway, action will take you to the end of the journey. Beyond believing, ACT.

366 days of wisdom (August 27, 2020)

Day 240 of wisdom

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”

William Arthur Ward

A pessimist is one who tends to see only the worst aspect of things, or believe that the worst will happen to him, or the people around him. He is constantly negative, always expecting, and hoping for the worst, never see any good in any situation, a very good complainer, and believes the world is entirely evil. A pessimist approaches everything the hard way, suspicious of everything, and everybody, always full of anxiety, slow to action for excessive caution, and hardly trust anyone.

An optimist is an hopeful, and confident personality, he has a positive outlook to life, a bright expectation for the future, and the success of everything he does. He always look beyond the events of the present, and hope to get to a better future, he believe things will eventually change in his favour, and life will become easier. Optimists motivate themselves to keep moving in spite of harsh, and hard situations, they are always grateful for what they have, and find reasons to be happy even when they don't have to.

Realists are people who understand the dynamics of events, and happenings, they accept the reality of the situation at hand, are ready, and prepared to deal with it accordingly. They know that they can get whatever they want if they can act, and work towards it. They believe that a man is affected by his reality to the degree to which he allows it, and therefore adjust there realities to suit their plans, and purposes. Realists are good planners, and may sometimes be perceived as pessimists due to their deep understanding of life's realities.

Realists are the most pragmatic people, they don't let their expectations be determined by chance, rather they take the bull by the horn, and act on situations to alter outcomes in their favour. They are a combination of pessimist, and optimist, because they believe if they don't act on a situation, if they allow life to determine its outcome, the resultant effect may not be in their favour. The same situation a pessimist expects to destroy him, and an optimist expects to change in his favour, the realist uses to his advantage. The way different people sees different things determines what they get out of that thing. Change your view, change your thoughts, and your life will change.

366 days of wisdom (August 26, 2020)

Day 239 of wisdom

“If you were born with the weakness to fall. You were born with the strength to rise.”

Rupi Kaur

Perfection is not obtained at birth, every man comes into the world empty, but full of potentials. We were born weak, fragile, and vulnerable, but our weakness, and vulnerability is an opportunity to grow, and develop strength to rise beyond every limitation. Every weakness in itself is a shell of strength. The difference between every man is the amount of work, and effort we put into converting our weaknesses into strength.

Criss Jami said, "To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength." most times when you reveal your weaknesses, and show how vulnerable you are you gain strength, and courage to rise, and face those things that frightens you the most. We must realize that every man has his own weaknesses, and strength, we must therefore complement each other with the differences that exists between us.

Every new day comes with new challenges, so does it come with strength to face those challenges, what is up to us is to tap into the reservoir of strength, and make use of it to our advantage. We must constantly renew, refresh, and upgrade our thoughts to allow for new experiences. Napoleon Hill once said "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." one who is strong does not struggle, but slice through problems with ease, but without struggle one does not get strong. Only the weak struggle, and through that becomes strong.

You can't know how strong you are until you don't have an option than being strong, whenever you don't feel talented enough; whenever you feel incapable enough; whenever you don't feel confident enough to continue your journey to your desired destination, you must dig from within yourself the strength to carry on, and be what you want to be.

366 days of wisdom (August 25, 2020)

Day 238 of wisdom

“I take the good with the bad. I can’t love people in slices.”

Sean Connery

There are good people, and there are bad people, but there are also good people who are not perfect. One cannot love people in bits, or slices, if we love anyone we must love wholly, there is no such love as half-hearted love. The imperfections of a good man will sometimes make him seem like a bad person, but we must always carry with us the knowledge, and understanding of human imperfections.

Eric Burdon once said, "Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other." without evil, there will be no need for good, our mind is a battlefield for these two, and the one we feed most always win the battle. We therefore must be conscious of what, and how we tailor our thought patterns, because it is what we allow that rules our mind.

In the words of Marcus Aurelius once said, "Life is neither good or evil, but only a place for good and evil." life is neither good, or evil, but good, and evil thrives to the degree to which we allow it. We all have our opinion of what we think is good, or bad, but we must understand that the definition of good, and bad is devoid of our personal opinion, but on what reality spells. We must therefore seek to know more, and understand the true perspectives of life, and things.

Evil thrives when good is asleep, and it threatens peace, and love wherever it is found, but when good arises, love, peace, unity, and justice becomes a constant companion. Evil is like a disease, good is like an antidote that cures, and eradicate evil; evil destroys, but good builds; evil brings hate, good breeds love. We must decide what side of the divide we will take, and stick to it. Though we expect perfection, and optimum performance from everyone, we must learn to live with every human according to their imperfections, and together we will build a better world.

366 days of wisdom (August 24, 2020)

Day 237 of wisdom

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.”

Galileo Galilei

There is no ambiguity in what is true. Truth is a one sided coin that needs no explanation before anyone could understand, and realize the validity of it. Truth is clear, readily abounding, and always available, but it is not as cheap as it could seem, it is thereby very important for us to discover the the unhidden truth in open air, and guard it carefully.

Ancient English essayist, and philosopher William Hazlitt said, "One truth discovered is immortal, and entitles its author to be so: for, like a new substance in nature, it can not be destroyed." truth is indestructible, and immortal, it is an unending waves of the most realistic substance, truth never dies, so does the author of truth, they remain immortal even in death.

Truth is a propeller, and promoter of justice, and peace, when truth rules a community, that community will only experience their best life, unity will be resident, and love will never be scarce. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "Truth never damages a cause that is just." a just cause grows with truth, a community that lives on truth will never be destroyed.

We must seek to always fight for what is true, to vehemently stand for the truth, and defend it with all our strength. A life lived in falsehood is a wasted life, no matter how long a lie have existed, no matter how far it has travelled, whenever the truth is discovered, and revealed it will overrun, outpace, and overshadow the long existing lie. Upon the discovery of truth, it is only the courageous that accepts whatever the truth is all about. Truth is all we need to live a fulfilled, and progressive life.

366 days of wisdom (August 23, 2020)

Day 236 of wisdom

“The highest revelation is that God is in every man.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

There can be no better, greater, nicer, and more pleasant thing to know, and realise than to discover that God is in every man, that God our creator is resident in each, and everyone of us. We might not  have been experiencing the best of Him, because we do not give him the total charge, and control of our lives. When we give up ourselves, and allow God the absolute control of our lives, we become the best we could be, our struggles become reduced, and our efforts produce absolutely outstanding results.

Loving our neighbours becomes easier when we allow God in our lives; gentleness becomes our second skin; kindness becomes the air we breathe in; patience becomes our food; spreading peace, and unity becomes our daily work. We were made in God's image for a purpose, which is to continue, and propagate His works of creation, recreation, and reproduction on the surface of the earth, we must therefore do to the best of our abilities what we are here to do, and accomplish.

J. L. Huie said, "When the vast cathedral of our being becomes a sanctuary for all creation, we become the face of God." when every man that comes across us find reasons to smile; when those that encounters us leave being better people; when we are a source of solution to problems that are being encountered by people, we become the face of God on the earth, we become the hands of God carrying out His assignment, and the legs of God moving things around for His glory. In all these our lives become purpose fulfilling, and God glorifying.

366 days of wisdom (August 22, 2020)

Day 235 of wisdom

“When a hundred men stand together, each of them loses his mind and gets another one.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

Diversity when properly harnessed is strength. Every human being is different, special, and unique in their own way, but the differences, specialties, uniqueness is for the general good, and growth of the human race. George R.R. Martin said, "Different roads sometimes lead to the same castle." though we may be different we are all for one purpose, we are all to build a better world, we are here to lift ourselves, and become the best we could ever be for ourselves.

It was Petrarch that said, "Sameness is the mother of disgust, variety the cure." a group of people with same mind, same skill, same talent, same thought pattern are a people of stunted progress, but when there is variety there is progress. Unity only comes from a people of diversity, a people of different ideas, and background, oneness is more appreciated in an heterogeneous community, an homogeneous does not know the true value of unity.

In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilisation." when we come together in our diversity we create a world of beauty, we show our strength, and glorify our essence. In a united community the whole is as strong, and weak as one man, and one man is as strong, and weak as the whole. When a man loses strength he is strengthened by the other, and everyone remains strong at all times.

Someone once said, "if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to far, go with people" no one can succeed in isolation, a tree cannot make a forest, we become better only through the people in our life. Our being is a summation of everyone around us, so, the quality of people around us determines the quality of our life. We should learn to live not just for ourselves, but for the good of all of us.

366 days of wisdom (August 21, 2020)

Day 234 of wisdom

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

Disappointments are a part of man's constant experiences, we will always get disappointments because life is not arranged in such manner as to give us all that we want expecially at first try, but if we do want something bad enough, we must never lose sight of that thing until we receive it, we must always keep hope alive until we achieve our heart desires.

Alexander Pope once said, "Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed." the best way to cushion the effect, or avoid disappointment is to expect little, or nothing at all from people, and situations. It is better not to expect, and get something, than to expect, and get nothing. No one owe us anything, so we are not entitled to anything from anybody, but if you work for something you will definitely earn whatever you work for.

Joel Osteen once admonished, he said, "You must make a decision that you are going to move on. It won't happen automatically. You will have to rise up and say, ‘I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life." no matter how hard you get hit, no matter how huge the disappointment may be, you must be determined to move forward, you must see disappointments as a learning phase, and an opportunity to grow.

Disappointment lasts just for a moment, it is finite, but hope is never quenching, it never dies, it is infinite. In the words of Desmond Tutu, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” darkness may persist, eventually light will shine, and darkness will flee. Stephen King also said, "remember hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies" keep hope alive, the tide will soon turn in your favour.

366 days of wisdom (August 20, 2020)

Day 233 of wisdom

“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.”

Lao Tzu

Life does not give room, nor path ways for the hardest, strongest, and powerful ones, but for the flexible persistent, and unrelenting. One of the greatest secrets to having whatever you want to have is to have the spirit of persistence, flexibility, and tenacity. Life is hard, but as hard as life could be, the soft, and flexible can break through with tenacity, and persistence.

There is no visible, and tangible thing that is softer, or more flexible than water, yet water always have its way no matter the obstructions it faces on its way to its destination. A river will find its way through hard rocks by finding where there is a little space, and when it does not find one, it will continously, consistently, and unrelentingly beat against the rocks until a way is created for its passage.

Saint Francis de Sales adviced "When you encounter difficulties and contradictions, do not try to break them, but bend them with gentleness and time." tough situations sometimes do not require tough approaches, but flexible, gentle, patient, but tenacious approaches. We should be flexible in our approach to different situations, and circumstances as every situation cannot be tackled with the same strategy.

The hen does not get her chicks to life by breaking the eggs, in fact, if she break her eggs she waste them, but she patently, and consistently sit on it until it hatches. Nothing is achieved overnight, everything that must be achieved must be worked upon, we must wake up everyday with the desire to work, to build, and to develop ourselves towards getting to your desired destination.

366 days of wisdom (August 19, 2020)

Day 232 of wisdom

“It is not because life is difficult that we do not dare. Life is difficult because we do not dare.”

Seneca

We do not experience ease, not because there is no ease, but because we do not dare to do the difficult things. If we would live an easy life, we must first do the difficult things, but if we spare the difficult things until later, we would find it more difficult when it will eventually come upon us. The easy things of life are not worth having, but when we have worked hard enough for what is really worth it, we would eventually experience an ease life of fulfilment.

Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." if one does not dare big things, he would not get big results. It is better to face the battle with the hopes, and high expectations of great rewards, than to be in comfort with no expectation of anything at all.

No good thing comes through comfort, and ease, but ease, and comfort comes from daring, and doing difficult things. "a Yoruba adage says,"ikoko to ma je ata, idi re a gbona", which when interpreted implies, "anyone who will enjoy life, must first pass through, and endure its rigors." A butterfly have gone through life as a caterpillar before becoming the beautiful butterfly with wings.

Go for what you want no matter how hard it is to get it, nothing is given to anyone on a plater of gold, if you want something bad enough, you have to go out and fight for it, you have to work for it, you must not settle for less than you bargained for. In life you don't get what you deserve, you get what you bargain, and work for, and you should never quit until you win, because until you win it is not over.

366 days of wisdom (August 18, 2020)

Day 231 of wisdom

“God is not to be treated by governments (nations) merely as one who is to be dragged to their help in hour of national need. Rather, God in His majesty must flame before the eyes of every nation.”

Abraham Kuyper

God is not a tool to be used for rescue in times of difficulties, and challenges, He is not to be dragged to our help only when we think we can do nothing anymore, or when we have exhausted all our strengths, options, and abilities, and feel the only solution is in His hands. God should be our priority, not our last option.

We cannot continue to despise God, His ways, and laws, and expect him to come to our rescue when we are in trouble, we are to submit to His ways, not summon Him to our help. When we are submissive to his commandments we cannot be moved, we cannot be threatened, we cannot be destroyed. We will always have, and experience peace in all we do, and we will always enjoy His grace, and bountiful mercies.

Any nation that disregards God is headed for destruction, without Him there is nothing, without Him nothing happens. Only Him approves, or disapproves anything. In all we do as a nation (Government, and the governed) we must seek always to honour God, His commandments, and His ways, and we will receive honour in the comity of nations, and will never be put to shame, nor destroyed.

Human strength can only lead us to further despair, all our wisdom can earn us is further destruction, and humiliation, there is no other way except the God way, there exists no solution anywhere else except in the Almighty, we must give Him first place in our nation, make him our priority, and we will be sure to win every battle.

366 days of wisdom (August 17, 2020)

Day 230 of wisdom

“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”

Beverly Sills

There is no temporary solution to a permanent problem. Every problem that must be solved must be attended to with a lasting, and sustainable strategy. Someone once said, "if you take shortcuts you will be cut short" the only guarantee to a permanent, and long lasting result is to ensure that you have a done what must be done to get to where you want to be.

J.R.R. Tolkien aptly puts "Short cuts make long delays." if one decides to go through the short routes to his desired destination he most likely will encounter the longest delays. Life most times have a way of turning short cuts into long routes. Achieving success is not the most important thing in life, what we become on our journey towards achieving success is what is most important.

You cannot build a house by starting from the roof, the one and only way to erect a building is to start from the foundations, and build to the top one element at a time. Shortcuts are dangerous cuts, they either lead nowhere, or to a temporarily satisfying destinations, and eventually turn out to be the longest routes.

In the words of Nicky Verd, "Success is built over-time not over-night" it takes tangible amount of time, with patience, dedication, and hard work to build, and to reach heights of greatness, and relevance. Anything worth doing at all is worth doing well. If you have to do anything, do it to the best of your ability. It is in going the distance, and engaging in every activity on the way that we reap the benefit, and dividend of the journey.

366 days of wisdom (August 16, 2020)

Day 229 of wisdom

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”

(King Solomon, Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Everything that exists on earth exist for a reason, and everything that will, and must happen has a season, and a timing. The purpose of life is a life of purpose, a life without purpose is a life not worth living. One who must fulfil purpose in life must be mindful of the times, and seasons that exists, and what time, or season will fit, and support the realization of his purpose, and destiny in life.

A farmer who refuses to plant maize during the rainy season, and decides to do so in the dry season will reap an harvest of dry, burnt seed of maize, or at most a plantation of maize with nothing to show for the stress, and effort. If one does not do the right things at the right time he will not reap the reward of proper timing, and planning.

Ray Cummings said, "Time is what keeps everything from happening at once." Time is the regulator of events, it is with time that everything passes, and without time life will be just like a rollercoaster without a purpose, or destiny. Opportunities are time bound, if an opportunity knocks, and one fails to maximise it, he will lose that opportunity, and may never get another.

In the words of Charles Buxto, "You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it." time is available to everyone at the same rate, pace, and time, how we make use of it is what differentiates one person from the other. Now is the only time that belongs to us, yesterday is no more, and tomorrow is yet to come, but today is all we have, we must do today what we have to do, and when tomorrow comes we will do what we can do.

366 days of wisdom (August 15, 2020)

 Day 228 of wisdom

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

Maya Angelou

No one person knows everything all at once, not from the start of a journey, or endeavour. Every man picks up knowledge on their way to their desired destination. It is therefore important for us to understand that we cannot wait to have all the knowledge we need to achieve a thing before we embark on the journey towards achieving that thing. We must start with what we have, and gather what will be needed along the way.

The farther one goes the farther he sees, if we refuse to move ahead, and go forward we will never see beyond our current status, and vicinity, but the moment we move forward towards our dreams we will see clearer, and we will know better. We must exercise faith in our own ability, and trust that when we get to where our might can take us, we will gain more knowledge on how to advance to the next level.

Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." if you will ever leave where you are, you have to do what you have to do, and can do where you are, and when you have done all you can do, you will know, and see what next to do. Inactivity is a growth inhibitor, anyone who sits idle waiting for the right time to do what he wants to do will never get anything done.

Always seek to know more, to learn, and be a better person today than you were yesterday. You cannot do more than you already know, and you will rarely know more unless you put what you already know to use. There is no space for inactivity in life, you either use or lose, so, if you don't want to lose that which you already have, use it, and move forward towards your success.

366 days of wisdom (August 14, 2020)

Day 227 of wisdom

“As is our confidence, so is our capacity.”

William Hazlitt

One's capacity to do a thing grows in direct proportion to the growth of their confidence. Most people cannot do a thing not because they lack the capacity to, but because they lack the courage, and confidence to do that thing. Every one has the capacity to do whatever they want to do, but the difference between those that get things done, and those that don't is their confidence.

In the words of Australian professional golfer and PGA Tour member, who was also a former World Number 1 in the World Golf Ranking, Jason Day, “When you have a lot of confidence and you feel like nobody can beat you, it’s game over for everyone else.” The only person that can beat a confident person is someone with a superior level of confidence, so, if you want to be the best your confidence level must be at its peak.

Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” your success, and happiness is tied to your believe in your own strengths, talents, skills, and abilities. If you do not believe you can, you can't.

The man who have confidence have everything, he will never see obstructions, but opportunities, he will see every challenge as an opportunity to grow, he will take advantage of difficulties, and turn them to prospects. Experience only exposes one to what to do, but confidence gives you the grit to do it. In the words of Sabrina Carpenter, “Confidence is the most beautiful thing you can possess.” So, grow your confidence, grow your capacity.

366 days of wisdom (August 13, 2020)

 Day 226 of wisdom

“There is no neutral ground on which one ought to stand in a time of tyranny .”

Walter Carrington

One can not but agree with Edmund Burke when he said, “the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.” Our world as we have it now, and our best minds, most valuable people, and priceless brains are falling away, running away, and wasting away because for a very long time the good people among us have refused to speak out against evil.

There can be no peace, progress, nor growth when evil men are at the helms of affairs in any society. The only beneficiaries of the system that would be created in such societies will be close allies, and pallies of those in power. The common wealth, and resources of the people will be to the advantage of a minority. The system will become unbearable for the powerless, and fragile in that society.

Former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, late Walter C. Carrington once said in an interview, “there is no neutral ground on which one ought to stand in a time of tyranny. I felt a duty to speak. There was no way I could remain silent during the reign of Nigeria's worst military dictatorship I believe an ambassador is an envoy not only to the government to which he or she is accredited but also to its people.” Despite being an ambassador whose allegiance must be solely to his government, and forbidden to meddle with host nation's affairs, in 1993, he spoke out against the tyrannical rule of then head of state General Sani Abacha.

Neutrality in a tyrannic regime is a support for that regime, and that makes one no better than the tyrant. It is high time good people stand up for the truth, for justice, and for good governance where every citizen is as important as any other person, this is a just cause, and it is worth fighting for.

366 days of wisdom (August 12, 2020)

 Day 225 of wisdom

“Great changes in the destiny of mankind can be effected only in the minds of little children.”

Sir Herbert Read

The destiny of a Nation is in the hands of her youths. A generation that must rise will do so on the backs of vibrant, determined, focused group of young people. Any Nation that disregards, or despise her youth has her future in jeopardy, it will not achieve its full potential, but a Nation who is ready to develop her youth, and give them the opportunity to lead will surely grow.

Our society has not been fair on her youths, they have not been given the opportunity to grow, develop, and become the best they should be, yet great expectations are required of them. Rachel Jackson once said, “Our youth are not failing the system; the system is failing our youth. Ironically, the very youth group who are being treated the worst are the young people who are going to lead us out of this nightmare.” we might not have received all we needed, we must not fail ourselves, if our generation does not rise we must be blamed, we may not be responsible for our bondage, but we must take responsibility for our liberation.

In the words of Robert Kennedy “This world demands the qualities of youth: not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.” Youthfulness is not about age, it is the state of ones mind; it is the quality, depth, and strength of our imagination; and the tenacity of our will. We must stand courageous becaw fear paralyzes strength.

As youths, we must begin to act; we must take up the courage to fight; the liberation, peace, and growth of our generation is in our hands, we must rise up to the task, and save our world, because if we do not, no one else will, like Bono said, “This is a time for bold measures. This is the country, and you are the generation.”

366 days of wisdom (August 11, 2020)

 Day 224 of wisdom

“Know your limits, but never stop trying to exceed them.”

Anonymous

There exists no limit to what a man can achieve in life except the ones he set for himself. Every man is born with great abilities, talents, and potentials, it is how these abilities, talents, and potentials are been harnessed that determines how far one would go, how well one would do, and what one would achieve in life. Limitations exists nowhere except in our minds.

Whatever your mind can conceive it can achieve, but not without deliberate, and concerted effort towards achieving it. Disneyland seems like an unrealistic dream when Walt Disney conceived it in the 1940s, today Disney world  has over 77,000 employees; with parks in the US, Europe, and Asia. Over 155 million visitors visited Disney  parks in 2019. If Walt Disney had limited his mind all these would not have been possible.

H. Jackson Brown, Jr. “Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do.” the odds might not be in your favours, but it should not keep you from doing the things that you hold so dear to your heart, never let limit the realization, and actualization of your dreams, rather it should spur you to go for more, and overcome every odds.

Never allow current situations rob you of future opportunities; never give in to limitations, activate your inner power, put your inner strength to use, maximize your God given gifts, and talents, and potentials. Know your limits, but never stop at it, break those limits, exceed them, beat every obstacle that comes your way, and the sky will be just your starting point.

366 days of wisdom (August 10, 2020)

Day 223 of wisdom

“Are your habits moving you toward your life goals? Or are they keeping you stuck in place?”

Jonathan Lockwood Huie

We have arrived at our current position in life as a result of our habits. Habits are the daily routine that has been ingrained into our mental fabrics over time, they are the things we do seamlessly, we do them without deep thoughts, and they bring us to the destination for which they must take us to. Our habits will either make, or mar us, they either move us closer to our heart desires, or take us far away from it.

Our habit is the most important tool on our journey to success, we may be motivated, or inspired to do a thing, but if we do not have the right habit we will not get anything done. Like Octavia Butler said “First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not.” when there is no more motivation to carry on, it is our habit that sustains, and get us going.

Are your habits moving you forward? Are they moving you towards your life goals? Or are they keeping you stuck, and stagnant in place? Are your habits positive, or negative? Your answers to these questions will determine if you should consolidate on your habit, or find a way to change them. Good habits can be improved, and bad habits can be changed.

Changing an habit is a gradual process, habit does not change in an instant, in the words of Mark Twain who said “habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.” when we want to change an habit we must be willing to patiently, and gradually follow through the processes until the effect is reached. We must understand that our habits are our responsibility, and we can change them to align us on our path to achieving our life goals.

366 days of wisdom (August 09, 2020)

Day 222 of wisdom

“In the time we have it is surely our duty to do all the good we can to all the people we can in all the ways we can.”

William Barclay

Life is too short to waste any part of it; the time we have in it is too long not to make any reasonable impact before leaving; life is too good not to do good to everyone we come across, at all times in every way we can. Doing good is the ultimate duty of man to  his fellow men. Anyone who does good receives good, and anyone who does evil receives evil.

In every way we must not be weary in doing good for if we cease to do good to others we will cease to receive good, because whatsoever a man sows he will reap. Doing good is not only in what we give, or do to others, it is also about what we say, how we make them feel, and how we relate to them in periods when they need someone to lift them up. Doing good to others is not just about them, it is also about us.

Someone once said, “one day you will be just a memory for some people, do your best to be a good one” what  kind of memory do you want people to have of you when you finally go away, when you are no more, and the only thing they can remember of you is the things you have done. You determine the story people will tell of you so do your best to live a life that will leave good, and pleasant stories about you.

Your happiness, joy, peace of mind, and good health is enhanced when you make doing good an habit, and a way of life. When you do good to someone, you inspire that person to do good to others, and in so doing multiply good actions. It is very important that you take note of your actions towards the people around you, and give an answer to this very important, and urgent question asked by Martin Luther King Jr. “What are you doing for others?”

366 days of wisdom (August 08, 2020)

Day 221 of wisdom

“A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.”

King Solomon (Proverbs 21:16, NIV)

Understanding is the key to a better, more desirable, and prosperous life, without understanding it is difficult to make anything meaningful out of life. King Solomon in the seventh verse of the fourth chapter of his proverbs said that, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” as principal, and important as wisdom is without understanding it would yet be incomplete.

J.K. Rowling “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.” if you lack understanding there can't be an acceptance of the reality that exists, and without acceptance of your current reality there can't be any transformation of the situation. Understanding opens your eyes to see things from different angles, and give a proper perspective to every situation.

Marie Curie said “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” when we have the right understanding of things, we will know that fear is nothing that should have any hold over us; we will realize that we are powerful beyond our thoughts, and imagination; we will see ourselves as who we can be rather than who we are.

The lack of understanding is a recipe for destruction, a people of understanding is a people that is headed for a glorious future, but those who lack understanding is headed for doom. We must seek to understand more often than we seek to know, knowing is of no importance if we do not understand. In the words of Albert Einstein “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” so, seek understanding.

366 days of wisdom (August 07, 2020)

Day 220 of wisdom

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

James Baldwin

Change does not happen unless one makes it happen, but not everything will change even when one works towards changing it. Some things are just meant to remain the way they are irrespective of our actions, and decisions. Yet the only way to change anything is to work on changing it, if a situation seems unchanging it is most likely you haven't done anything, or enough to cause a change of the situation, and it could be that the situation is an unchangeable one.

One must recognize the unchangeable situations in one's life, or else he would be building castles in the air. Unchangeable situations will never change no matter the efforts put into it, so, recognizing those situations, and letting life take its due course is best for us.

Albert Einstein said, “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” our thoughts are the the major ingredients that will drive the change we hope for, we are a product of what we constantly think about. If we find ourselves in undesirable situations, changing our thought pattern is the key to changing the situation for better.

Every new day should teach us new lessons, we should never be caught in the web of stagnancy, but advance to greater heights, and new levels as the days go by. We must realize that the greatest change we can ever witness is not changing the world, the greatest change is changing ourselves, as Rumi said, “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” changing yourself for the better is the best decision you can ever make.

366 days of wisdom (August 06, 2020)

Day 219 of wisdom

“The more you look, the more you see.”

Robert M. Pirsig

Whatever one does not look for even if it is right in front of him he wouldn't see, a man only sees what he wants to see, and what he is looking for, and the more he looks the more he sees. Achieving anything in life requires that one makes, determined, and deliberate efforts towards ensuring that one achieves his desired dream.

In the search for solution to problems, the quality of the answer, or solution one gets is determined by the quality of the questions asked. Weak, and superficial questions bring about weak, and superficial answers, or solution. The deeper you dig the hotter it becomes, the more intense the stratosphere becomes, so the intensity one brings to solving a problem will make that problem either look very ordinary, or extremely difficult.

J. L. Huie admonished when he said “Look closely... See with new eyes... Don't just pass by what is familiar without a thought. Pay attention and look closely. There is beauty - there is discovery - there in a whole new world hiding beneath the face of the familiar. Your close attention will be richly repaid.” Familiarity with a thing, person, or people can deprive us of the good that may be resident in them, so, we must really pay closer attention to those things we have always seen as familiar.

Some things may look hard on the surface, meanwhile, it could just be a shell on the surface which when removed will be a soft body of flesh; a person may be physically unattractive, but they may be very beautiful in character, attitude, and disposition.

Every day of our lives is a miracle, but we wouldn't see the miracle in each new day until we start looking at everyday with a new eyes. Paulo Coelho said, “You can become blind by seeing each day as a similar one. Each day is a different one, each day brings a miracle of its own. It's just a matter of paying attention to this miracle.” Don't become blind to dynamics, look deeper, and you will see deeper.

366 days of wisdom (August 05, 2020)

Day 218 of wisdom

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.”

Victor Borge

Mark Twain gave an insight into the potency of laughter when he said, “(Humanity) has unquestionably one really effective weapon: LAUGHTER. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution: these can lift at a colossal humbug - push it a little - weaken it a little, century by century, but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.”

Laughter is a weapon, and a medication, it melts a provoked heart, and heals a wounded soul. Laughter is a tool that shortens the distance between two people. Having a good life is synonymous to taking a life prolonging medication. Life may not always give you enough reason to laugh, but we must create an atmosphere of laughter, and find reasons from within us to laugh and even make fun of our selves.

When we become too serious about the issues that bothers us most in life, we allow anxiety, and worry take over our minds, thereby giving opportunity to ineffectiveness, panic, and low, or lack of productivity. But when we laugh at our challenges, we get the motivation, and inspiration to tackle them with fresh ideas, which will eventually give us the desired breakthrough.

When two people laugh together, the gap between them is shortest than at any other time, their differences are forgotten, and the hearts are in absolute synchronization with each other. When two strangers laugh with each other a bond instantly created between them. Laughter is a bond that binds two people tightly together, and when you laugh with, or at yourself you become more aware, and more closely in tune with who you really are. Always remember to laugh, as Tom Nansbury said, “an optimist laughs to forget; a pessimist forgets to laugh.”

366 days of wisdom (August 04, 2020)

Day 217 of wisdom

“If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.”

Barack Obama

If there is a dream that your heart so desire to achieve, if there is a passion that so much interest you, and you are willing to pursue, if you are ready to do all it takes to get to your desired dream you will eventually get there. Success is achieved when one is ready, willing, and determined to do what is needed no matter what.

In 2009, Barack Obama became the first African American to become a President in the United States of America. It was a feat that was difficult to achieve, the world did not give him a chance, but against all odds he rose. He did not just start the  journey in 2009, he has been on the road to that height far before 2009, he had a vision, he had a dream, and he pursued that dream with hard work, and determination, until it was realized.

Abraham Lincoln was born into a poor family, he received little, or no formal education, he was taught by itinerant teachers for an aggregated period of not more than 12 months, he was mostly self educated. He was determined to have a better life, he wanted something better than what he had, he dreamt of a life bigger than the one he had, he knew he was on a rewarding path, he knew the path he was threading was towards a more pleasant destination, and he never relented until he got there.

Don't quit on your journey to greatness. If the path you are taking is right, and the course you have chosen is for the betterment of yourself, and the people around you, you need not relent, you need not look back, continue, move forward, and you will eventually reach there. Progress only comes when work is continuous, and purposeful. Dispel doubts, dispel fear, then success comes.

366 days of wisdom (August 03, 2020)

Day 216 of wisdom

“Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust.”

Jesse Owens

The most valuable things in our lives are not the physical possessions we have, they are not the things we have gathered over time, the most valuable things are the people we allow into our lives, the people we share our time, and valuable moments with. Our physical possession will get exhausted, fade away, corrode, and vanish, but the people in our lives will always be there, friends never rust nor gather dust, they are always renewed, and refreshed as the times go by.

A common Yoruba saying goes "eniyan laso mi" which when literally translated says "human is my clothing" and by implication means, the people around me are the reasons I am become a better person, they are the reason I am living a good, and impressive life. The impact people have on our lives cannot be overemphasized. Though we really need material things to have a good life, we wouldn't enjoy our life if we do not have the right people around us.

"Friends are the family you choose." Jess C. Scott said, we don't have the privilege to choose who our parents, and siblings are, but it is solely our responsibility to choose our friends. We must therefore be very careful the kind of friends we choose, as they have it in their hands to either make us, or mar us. Good friends are the most valuable assets we will ever acquire, and keeping them should be our priority.

Marcel Proust said "Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." We must cherish the good friends in our lives, give them the best regards they deserve, for they give us reasons to carry on in the journey of life, they are the ones who brighten our paths, lighten our burdens, and bring joy to our hearts. They are the Most Valuable Players (MVPs).

366 days of wisdom (August 02, 2020)

Day 215 of wisdom

The struggle ends when the gratitude begins.”

Neale Donald Walsch

A person of gratitude never lacks any good thing, and he always have the best of things: happiness, because he is always content, and grateful for the little that he has, and hereby receives abundance for his constant art of gratitude. We will surely not always have everything we want, or even need in life, but we can always be in our best state of mind by maintaining an habit of constant gratitude.

J. L. Huie said, “There Is Peace In A Life Of Constant Gratitude. Have Gratitude for the Smallest Blessings, for the crust of bread and the cool drink of water.” be grateful for the little things in your life, they are the things that keep you going; be grateful for the air you breath; be grateful for your family, friends, and loved ones; be grateful for all that you have, and you will find peace in all you do.

In the words of Alan Cohen, “Appreciation is the highest form of prayer, for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thoughts.” Whenever you show gratitude for the good you have received, you open the door to new blessings. A Yoruba proverb when translated says, “if a child is thankful for yesterday's kind gesture towards him, he would receive another.” So, if you want to receive more, show more gratitude.

Every new day is an opportunity to be grateful for all you have, whether you receive new blessings or not. Gratitude opens your eyes to see the abundance in your lack, it opens your eyes to see the hidden blessings, and bring you to the realization of how important the things you took for granted are. Gratitude is the key that opens the door to abundance use it more consistently.

366 days of wisdom (August 01, 2020)

Day 214 of wisdom

“We carry our worst enemies within us.”

Charles Spurgeon

There can be no worse enemy to a man than himself. The thoughts, actions, behavior, and attitude of a man are the instruments that either make, or mar him. No one man can affect another man's life so much to alter the course of his life except he allows it as the man himself, he determines the outcome of his life by his actions, inaction, attitude, and behaviour.

We can choose the kind of life we want by carefully choosing the kind of thoughts that we allow into our minds, we are the key to whatever we become, or will become in life. As Gautama Buddha once said "Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts." The greatest harm that can come upon any man is the one he allows, or brings upon himself through his thoughts.

In the words of Lisa Kleypas "You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you." We can live happy, and fulfilling lives if we cease to expect too much from our self, and the people around us, if we can allow our selves to do our best in all we do we will surely be better individuals.

Chaka Khan said, "I control my life and I have never let success run away with me - I've taken it and ran. And the only thing that could threaten my stability is me - I'm my only threat and my own worst enemy. Beyond that, I don't feel successful. I'm nowhere near where I plan to be as far as my goals." You determine your life, you determine what comes out of it, make the best out of it.
