NO VICTORY WITHOUT SACRIFICE

There is no path to any victory worth having that is not paved with the stones of things we have given up. Sacrifice is the language of commitment. It is the quiet, relentless cost of becoming. Every great achievement, from the great artistic masterpieces, to the groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs in medicine, to the athletic world records and countless personal triumphs over challenges, and adversity, a price was paid that is beyond money, it was paid with time, and comfort.

Victory is mostly commemorated by a single moment of medal presentation, but the sacrifices made to reach the podium is always thousands of moments prior. The victory of a strong relationship is built on the sacrifices of pride, of the need to be right, and of selfish desires. The victory of financial freedom is built on the sacrifices of impulsive spending and short-term wants for long-term stability. The victory of health is built on the sacrifice of convenience for nourishment.

In life, to gain something of great value, you must give up something of lesser value. You cannot have the comfort of the couch and the glory of the finish line. You cannot have the security of the familiar and the thrill of the new frontier. You cannot have endless distraction and profound focus. When you find yourself gazing at someone else's victory stand, do not be fooled by its polished surface. Look deeper, see the early mornings that built it, feel the loneliness that fortified it, and cknowledge the fears that were conquered to reach it.

Your sacrifices are not the cost of victory; they are the very substance of it. Embrace the sacrifice, honour it, for it is the silent, steadfast partner to every dream, it is the dark soil from which the brightest victories grow. There is no other way. The path to the summit is steep, but the view from the top exists only because of every single step you took to get there.

To a better you, Kamikun John.
