LEAD WITH PURPOSE

Imagine two ships setting sail into a turbulent sea. One ship has a skilled captain, a strong crew, and a detailed map. The other has all of that, plus a known destination, a shining port they are desperate to reach. The first ship will navigate, react to the waves, adjust to the winds, and survive the storms. That is management. The second ship, however, does more than just navigate, it journeys. Every adjustment has meaning, every hardship is endured with the vision of that distant port in mind. That is not just management; it is leadership.

Purpose is not a mission statement carved by the roadside, it is not a quarterly target or a list of objectives, purpose is the heart beat of every endeavor, it is the why behind your what. Your purpose is your North star. In the cloud of daily challenges, when setbacks mount and morale wanes, it is what keeps you going. Purpose is what gets you up always and reminds you why you showed up, and started the journey in the first place.

There is no purpose without leadership. Leadership is the source of purpose. When you lead with purpose, you transforms effort into passion, and a group of individuals into a unified force. When you lead with purpose, you inspires action, not just activity. People will work for a paycheck, but they will bleed for a cause they believe in. Purpose is what turns ordinary tasks into meaningful contributions, and that is only activated through leadership.

The world is full of competent managers, but lack real leaders. Be brave enough to carve out your purpose, and be ready to lead those who will follow into that purpose. Look out for every opportunity to make impact. Don't wait for things to happen, begin to make things happen. Make decisions, and own the outcomes. Leadership transforms from a function of authority into a force of inspiration. Lead with purpose.

To a better you, Kamikun John.
