What is worth doing is worth doing well

PRIORITISING EXCELLENCE

The proverb, "What is worth doing at all, is worth doing well" often attributed to Philip Stanhope, the 4th Earl of Chesterfield, carries a simple yet profound truth, and admonition. If a task is important enough to be undertaken, it deserves your best effort. Prioritizing the principles of excellence, diligence, and integrity in all endeavors, whether grand or mundane sets the pace for distinctive execution.

We must eradicate the mindset of putting in half-hearted efforts into our endeavours if we really want to standout. If something is valuable enough to demand our time and energy, then cutting corners or performing it poorly defeats its purpose. We must always attempt to diligently perform every task with our best efforts invested into it, doing something well ensures that the effort yields meaningful results.

When you commit to doing something well, you take pride in the outcome. A job well done fosters self-respect and earns the respect of others. However, mediocre efforts often lead to wasted time and resources. Excellence always builds reputation, trust, and lasting success. When you strive for mastery in small tasks, it helps you cultivate discipline, skill, and a mindset of continuous improvement.

While excellence is being encouraged, we should not confuse it with perfectionism. Doing something well, is about putting in sincere effort, not obsessing over unattainable results. We must find the balance, knowing when good is good enough and when extra effort is truly essential. Life rewards those who take their commitments seriously. As the old saying goes, "If a thing is right, do it boldly. If it is wrong, leave it undone." If it is worth doing, do it well.

To a better you, Kamikun John.
