SACRIFICE IS NOT LOSING IT IS GAINING

The world is in a better place today because some people made some sacrifices in the past. Some with their skills, talent, knowledge, experience, and labour, while some paid the ultimate price with their lives. Many people see sacrifice as loss, giving up time, comfort, or something cherished with nothing in return. True sacrifice is not about what we deprive ourselves of, it is about what is gotten in exchange for it. When we make a sacrifice, we trade something temporary for something greater, growth, love, purpose, or a future we could not have otherwise reached.

Parents would sacrifice sleep for their child's well-being, creating and gaining deeper bonds and joy. An athlete sacrifices leisure for discipline, gaining strength, mastery, and achievement. Someone with lofty dreams sacrifices the security of his comfort zone for passion, gaining a life of purpose, impact, and meaning. When it seems we have surrendered ease, pleasure, and comfort, we have actually made an investment that will yield far greater rewards.

We may not always be the major beneficiary of our own sacrifices, but we have been, and would still be beneficiary of someone else's sacrifice. Life is about sacrifices, and without the sacrifices of some people, we would not be in our place today. Even in pain, sacrifice shapes us. The struggles we endure for others, or for our goals carve resilience into our character. The loss we merely endure is the price of transformation.

We must not fear making sacrifices, either for ourselves or for others. Most times, what you are willing to release, and let go is what makes space for what truly matters to come. What you give up today can become the foundation for what you gain tomorrow. Adoniram Judson once said, "There is no success without sacrifice." Except a seed is buried in the ground, we cannot have a tree. If you do not give, you cannot receive. Sacrifice is not losing, it is the only way to gain something greater than we can ever give.

To a better you, Kamikun John.
