Day 206 of wisdom
“Respect is love in action.”
Bangambiki Habyarimana
You cannot say you love a person if you do not sincerely respect that person irrespective of age, social status, class, colour, or ethnicity. Love is not just what we feel, or how we feel, it is also in how we behave ourselves, and react towards those we claim we love. As Miguel Angel Ruiz said, “Respect is one of the greatest expressions of love.” We cannot respect who we do not love, so can we not love someone we do not respect, even ourselves.
Someone said, “Respect is the most important element of your personality, it is like an investment, whatever you give to others will return to you with profit.” whatever you sow is what you will reap, and not just reap, but in abundance, so, if you want to get (reap) respect you must give (sow) respect, then you will reap it in multiple folds. “Respect is reciprocal” 9ice said.
No one is greater than the other, our circumstances may not be the same but all men are born equal. C. JoyBell C. puts it very aptly when she said, “We are all equal in the fact that we are all different. We are all the same in the fact that we will never be the same. We are united by the reality that all colours and all cultures are distinct and individual. We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this earth by the same gravity. We don’t share blood, but we share the air that keeps us alive.”
If there is anything you need a lot of, it is respect; if there is anything you need not be miserly with, it is respect, the more you give it, the more you get it, and the more you have the greater opportunistic you are likely to get, and the more the impact you can make on the people around you. Respecting someone does not reduce you, rather it reveals what you are truly made of. If anything is good enough for you, it is good enough for your neighbour, give it, that is respect.
