366 days of wisdom (July 31, 2020)

Day 213 of wisdom

“Our ability to create has outreached our ability to use wisely the products of our invention.”

Whitney M. Young

Over the years humanity has grown in her ability to create, invent, produce, and improve on technology, science, and other areas of human living, and endeavours. Barely will a year pass by without a new invention, and myriad of innovations, but the challenge has not been about the inventions, and innovations, but about the usage. Almost all inventions, and innovations are made for positive, and human advancement purposes, but users have found negative ways to engage, and use these technologies.

Advancement in technology, science, inventions, and innovation are supposed to be used for the general advancement of human lives, but are now being used as instruments of mass destruction, impoverishment, and defrauding of fellow men. Many men consider not the damages that may be caused by the use of these inventions, but only look towards their personal gains, and fulfillment.

Our creations should not drive us to faulty, or selfish usage, rather we should ensure that we channel the usage of these technologies, inventions, and ideas towards the general, and holistic advancement, development, and progress of everyone around us, and the human race in general. We must cease every opportunity to touch, and impact lives positively with the inventions available at our disposal.

People will not always remember what you have, or had; people will not always respect you for what you have, or had, but people will remember, respect, and hold you in high esteem for the good you did with what you have, or had, or vice versa for the evil you did with what you have or had. So, choose a side, the positive side of history of the negative side of it. Your actions, and inaction will place you.

366 days of wisdom (July 30, 2020)

Day 212 of wisdom

“Don’t find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.”

Henry Ford

No challenges, nor problems in life has ever been solved by complaining about it, the only solution to any problem is taking adequate, and pragmatic steps towards ensuring the demystification of the circumstances that caused the problem, and bringing about a rewarding solution to it. Complaining about a problem only worsen it, it makes the problem more elaborate rather than reducing it.

Albert Einstein once said, "we cannot solve a problem with the same thinking that got us into that problem." Most of the problems we have are self inflicted, and to solve these problems we must change our pattern of reasoning, because the same pattern that brought that problem cannot solve it, a more superior pattern must be followed or else we would find ourselves in a bigger problem than the one we are trying to solve.

Fault finding is an action engaged in by the weak minded, anyone who has built himself up to be a problem solver will not engage in fault finding, but will start from the moment he discovers a problem to strategize on how to solve the problem, and this is the key to finding success in every endeavour of ones life. Problem solvers are nation builders, they are entrepreneurs, and drivers of development wherever they find themselves.

In the words of Betty Williams "there's no use talking about the problem unless you talk about the solution." If you wouldn't talk about how to solve a problem, don't bother yourself with talking about the problem itself. Never see any problem as a set back, but always see them as an opportunity to prove yourself to the world to reveal the best in you.

366 days of wisdom (July 29, 2020)

Day 211 of wisdom

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

Paulo Coelho

Fear is one of the most powerful forces in the world behind love, and faith, but fear only derives its powers from the people who allows it rule their hearts, and emotion. Fear in the real sense is very powerless, but man has given it so much power that it torments man so much, such that it has become the major inhibitor of great success, and achievements.

Fear destroys your dreams of a better future; fear damages your drive for success; fear mutes your motivation to carry on; fear inhibits your ideas; and paralyze your progress. We can achieve whatever we put our minds to achieve, if only we can go all out to achieve it, if we do not allow fear to deprive us of what we can, and should do we can always become the best we should be.

Failure is not the end of a journey, rather it is a part of the journey, it is either an opportunity to start afresh, to reassess our journey, to redirect our paths, or to learn a very important lesson that will be needed to carry us on our eventual journey to success. We should therefore not be afraid of failure, we should not allow ourselves become slaves to fear.

We must summon courage to move on in spite of our fears. Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the ability to act, to do, carry on in the face of fear; it is doing it being afraid. If you have an idea do not let it die, and waste away, find a way of executing it; if you have a talent, groom it, and find a way of selling it. Never let fear be the reason you wouldn't do something you feel can take you to a new level. Face your fears,  just do it.

366 days of wisdom (July 28, 2020)

Day 210 of wisdom

“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet.”

J. Robert Oppenheimer

With the breaking of every new dawn, man rises in conscious, and subconscious pursuit of one very important thing, for which without, there will be no fulfillment, and living will not be an appreciable event. The strong will, and desire to achieve this thing sometimes takes man as far as they could go, so far that they sometimes forget the essence for which they have gone that far. This wonder is called: Happiness.

The pursuit of happiness is a fundamental right of every human being, but happiness as it were is not something to be pursued, but a seed to be planted, nursed, nurtured, and groomed within one's bosom to maturity. Man can find happiness in no other place than within himself, happiness is not outside a man, man has happiness within him, it is only left to him if he would activate it, or leave it there to rust while he seek for what was never lost.

The grass is not green anywhere, but where the ground is being watered. The happiness you seeks stares you right in the eye. Aristotle said “Happiness depends upon ourselves.” if we cannot make ourselves happy, no one else can, we are liable for our own happiness, or unhappiness. We must pay due attention to the things that most gladdens our heart, we must look deeply at the people who makes us attain our best self when we are with them, they are the seasonings to our happiness.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin “Happiness consists more in conveniences of pleasure that occur everyday than in great pieces of good fortune that happen but seldom.” So, draw happiness from the little things in your life, like your family; the food you eat; your ability to see, ear, breath, talk, and walk; and the ability to love, for in these things you will live a happy life everyday of your life.

366 days of wisdom (July 27, 2020)

Day 209 of wisdom

“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”

Joseph Campbell

I am sure you remember the name, 'Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin' very well... actually, I doubt you do, but Neil Armstrong instantly rings a bell, he was the first man to step foot on the moon, while Edwin Aldrin was the second man. In fact, they were on the same carrier into the moon, Aldrin only stepped foot on the moon few minutes after Armstrong, but history does not pay enough respect to Aldrin for his feat. People rarely remember second place, copies are not always recognized nor valued.

Being the person God created you to be is the greatest, and only real achievement you can ever have in life, anything short of that is a waste of time, and all the resources invested into you. You have a place on earth where only you have to fill, you have a purpose for which only you was created. You were created, and made an original to make an original, and exceptional impact in the world, do not waste that originality.

A copy can never be as valuable as the original no matter how real it looks, or seem like. Life is not just about achieving success, it is about achieving your life's purpose, don't just strive to be successful, rather strive to be valuable: adding real value to the lives of people you come across. It is a rare, and valuable privilege to become what you were created to become, so, do not take it for granted, or trade it for anything else.

Jonathan L. Huie puts it concisely when he said, “It's not in the doing, it's in the being. Whatever you do or don't do in your lifetime, your greatest contribution to current and future generations will be the happiness and joy you generated and radiated to those around you.” Be the best you can be of yourself, create as much value as you can, impact all the lives you can, believe in your abilities, never seek to be like anyone else, if you do not become you, no one else will.

366 days of wisdom (July 26, 2020)

Day 208 of wisdom

“The light in your soul is far greater than the darkness. Shine your light.”

Lailah Gifty Akita

You are a bright shining light, you are the revelation of the glory of your creator, He made, and created you with glory, for His glory, you will not be doing Him, the world, and yourself any good by not shining. You must shine your light or risk losing it, you must brighten up the way for some others to pass, and also discover their light. Do not be drawn into the thought of intimidating anyone because your are trying to shine your light.

Jim Carrey said, “Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Don't let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory.” you should not reduce yourself to seeking relevance, importance, and acceptance from people, light can never be irrelevant, do not let your light go dim all for the sake of acceptance.

Darkness may brag, but light always overcome darkness, you may pass through tough, and rough paths, things may not always go as smooth as expected, but you must not relent in letting your light shine through. All that is needed for evil deeds to be perpetrated is the presence of darkness, so, evil doers will never be welcoming to a bright shining star, yet that should not deter you from shining.

When darkness roars, shine your light; when the pressures arise, shine your light. The world needs light to guide their paths, “Be fearless, because the world needs what you have to give.” Eileen Anglin said. Abraham Hicks also said, “You did not come to serve. You came to create and to SHINE.” so don't disappoint your purpose, you were born to shine, so, shine, and shine bright.

366 Days of wisdom (July 25, 2020)

Day 207 of wisdom

“I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn't learn something from him.”

Galileo Galilei

Useless is a word that in itself should not be of any use, but is not absolutely useless. Though it is used to qualify something that is of no importance, use, or relevance. When something is tagged useless, it does not mean that it has no use at all, it only means that that its use is limited, so, do not despise, dispose anything called, or referred to as useless. There is absolutely nothing that is absolutely useless, there is a reason for everything that exists, and the things that does not exists "nothing" exists for a reason.

Human beings are of different backgrounds, and their backgrounds most often affects their thought patterns, their beliefs, their way of life. We cannot always see life the same way, and when we experience the same situations our responses can never be the same, so is our intellectual capacity not on the same scale. We may not have the same level of mental strength, and capacity but we all have our special, and unique strengths and abilities.

We must not be too quick to conclude that anyone is useless, because no one is. That person you see, and think to be useless is capable of teaching you the most important lesson you can ever learn in life. There is no one in life that is so ignorant such that they know nothing at all, even a mentally distorted person. Our biggest, and most important lessons and life may not always come from the brightest and best brains, but from sources we least expect them.

The person who thinks an ignorant man is useless is himself ignorant, and becomes useless as a result of that ignorance. There is no such thing as useless, we must be open minded to understand that we can learn from anyone, anything, and any situation. Consider your thoughts when you come across an ignorant mind, you quickly realize how dangerous it is to be ignorant, that in itself is a lesson.

366 days of wisdom (July 24, 2020)

Day 206 of wisdom

“Respect is love in action.”

Bangambiki Habyarimana

You cannot say you love a person if you do not sincerely respect that person irrespective of age, social status, class, colour, or ethnicity. Love is not just what we feel, or how we feel, it is also in how we behave ourselves, and react towards those we claim we love. As Miguel Angel Ruiz said, “Respect is one of the greatest expressions of love.” We cannot respect who we do not love, so can we not love someone we do not respect, even ourselves.

Someone said, “Respect is the most important element of your personality, it is like an investment, whatever you give to others will return to you with profit.” whatever you sow is what you will reap, and not just reap, but in abundance, so, if you want to get (reap) respect you must give (sow) respect, then you will reap it in multiple folds. “Respect is reciprocal” 9ice said.

No one is greater than the other, our circumstances may not be the same but all men are born equal. C. JoyBell C. puts it very aptly when she said, “We are all equal in the fact that we are all different. We are all the same in the fact that we will never be the same. We are united by the reality that all colours and all cultures are distinct and individual. We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this earth by the same gravity. We don’t share blood, but we share the air that keeps us alive.”

If there is anything you need a lot of, it is respect; if there is anything you need not be miserly with, it is respect, the more you give it, the more you get it, and the more you have the greater opportunistic you are likely to get, and the more the impact you can make on the people around you. Respecting someone does not reduce you, rather it reveals what you are truly made of. If anything is good enough for you, it is good enough for your neighbour, give it, that is respect.

366 days of wisdom (July 23, 2020)

Day 205 of wisdom

“There are three constants in life... change, choice, and principles.”

Stephen Covey

Life is governed by some set of constants, and nature never bends but man's activities have found ways of altering nature. Change, choice, and principles are the governors of whatever happens to whoever in life. Everything is subject to a kind of change or the other, and when these changes come, your understanding of the situation determines how you react to these changes.

Choices are the responsibilities of man, everyone at some point in their lives must make some choices, which will determine how the rest of their life from thenceforward will be. When these decisions are made, we must be proud of our decisions, and take responsibility for whatever the decision results into. Principles are natural laws that governs what becomes of the changes that occurs in life, and how our choices affects our lives.

Our choices are the true revelation of who we truly are, they show what really goes on in our minds. Everything in life is a choice, and are the determinants of who we eventually become, so, we must be very wise in making our choices. Once Stephen Covey also said, “But until a person can say deeply and honestly, "I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday," that person cannot say, "I choose otherwise.”

Thomas Paine said, “An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot.” no matter how oppressed the results of any principle might be, it will eventually come to the fore. Principles are meant to be obeyed, but are not supposed to put us in bounds, so we must allow ourselves live the best we can so we can attain the heights we hope to reach.

366 days of wisdom (July 22, 2020)

Day 204 of wisdom

“Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?”

Ian Wallace

Standing out is being a shining light inside the darkness; it is being the sharp axe when all others are blunt, and worn out; it is taking the lead when everyone else seems to have lost their way. Standing out is what is required if we will not be counted among the crowd, if you will not be regarded as just one of the rest. One can only stand out if he is of a unique personality, attitude, skill, when he behaves in a unique way, and does something every other person cannot.

Every man is born to be unique, different in their way, they were born with different talents, attributes, and potentials, but many have decided not to put their talent to use, they have not worked on developing new skills, or even put their skills to use, they have decided to be numbered in the herd. Mandy Hale once said, “So you're a little weird? Work it! A little different? OWN it! Better to be a nerd than one of the herd!” if you have discovered you aren't like the rest, dare to work it, dare to increase the gap, dare to be different.

You are a masterpiece, do not edit your masterpiece to become just an ordinary copy; do not trim yourself to become someone else, when you could have worked yourself into the best version of what you were meant to be. Sebastyne Young describes it very succinctly when she said, “We all want to be extraordinary and we all just want to fit in. Unfortunately, extraordinary people rarely fit in.” and she calls it human tragedies.

The Author of 'purpose drive life', Rick Warren, wrote “Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it.” if you are continuously trying to fit into the crowd, to become what you are not meant to become, if all you are doing is to please some people neglecting your own purpose in life you will eventually become useless to yourself, and unwanted by everyone you tried pleasing. So, live your life, become the best you can, and live only for the purpose for which you were born.

366 days of wisdom (July 21, 2020)

Day 203 of wisdom

“When all the details fit in perfectly, something is probably wrong with the story.”

Charles Baxter

Life is not a fictional movie where everything experienced goes smoothly and unhindered. In life everything does not always go as planned, the lines does not always easily connect. Life unexpectedly throws you stones, spares, and arrows, and one must be prepared to take the heat, weather the storm, and go through the turbulence so as to come out triumphant on the other side.

When you are going through a path, and all the stories fits perfectly, when there seems to be no obstructions, or hindrances, and you are having it all easy, you must be careful what you are into, you must take your time to find out if truly you are on a path to a better destination, or you are on a path to destruction, and misery.

Life may be easy, and smooth when one has done what is expected of him, when he has done his homework, when he has gone through all the turbulence, and carried himself through, but for one who hasn't experienced these, but is having it all easy, something is definitely wrong somewhere, except someone somewhere has done for them what they should have done, and made the job easier for them to carry on. One cannot have it all smooth, and easy all through their lives.

Be careful what you subscribe to, not all stories are true, and believable, people are deceptive, and so many seek only their own gains, they care less what you become or have, but in what they will benefit from you. Not all allies are friends, but enemies in disguise. Before embarking on any journey find the facts, and ensure you are going in the direction that is desirable, and hoped for.

366 days of wisdom (July 20, 2020)

Day 202 of wisdom

“The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”

Marcel Proust

There is nothing new under the heavens, but there is a plethora of things yet to be discovered by men. Life as we have it now has seen advancement in technology, loads of inventions spring up everyday, the world is becoming smaller due to the interconnectedness of places, people, and things. There seems to be an overwhelming reason not to explore the unexplored to discover new ways, new dimensions, new life, and new experiences for which we must not agree.

Life has become easier, pleasurable, and better because some people refused not to be limited by what they have already seen, but are passionate, and driven by their motivation to bring more to the table, they believe there is more yet to be seen, known, and discovered, they want to raise the bar, and set new standards for which the generations to come must see, and run further ahead for greater discoveries.

New discoveries is not about what we see around us, it is about what we see within us. If we would discover new horizons, and bring about a change in our world we must begin to see differently, we must be looking in directions never looked towards before, we must be ready to cause a shift in our thoughts, and pattern of actions. We cannot continue in our old ways, and expect to arrive at new destinations, it is an impossibility.

Internationally acclaimed organizational consultant, and Author of 'All you need is a ball' Idowu Koyenikan, wrote, "Never underestimate the power of thought; it is the greatest path to discovery." Your thoughts are the vessels through which you sail into uncharted territories, it is the instrument with which you paddle your boat through turbulence, and uncertainties, never take it for granted, but use it to your advantage, and to the betterment of our world.

366 days of wisdom (July 19, 2020)

Day 201 of wisdom

“So long as you have food in your mouth, you have solved all questions for the time being.”

Franz Kafka

Man is wired to naturally wants so many things, but it is impossible to satisfy human wants. Man basically needs only a few things to survive; food, shelter, and clothing, once these things are taken care of, man would instinctively secure his wants as his capacity would carry. Of these three basic needs of man, food is principal. A man without food is an angry man, is a man without thoughts, is a restless man.

Many at times, we take for granted the fact that we do not struggle so much to get what to eat, we think less, or are confident of our next meal, and therefore do not understand what it really means to have no food. Some men have died of starvation; famine has destroyed countries; turn friends to enemies, and made neighbours hunt themselves down. Food as easy as we get it, is a treasure to be guarded with blood, and sweat to some people.

Jonathan Lockwood Huie said, “Food is our most fundamental material blessing. Use each meal as an opportunity to feel gratitude for all the blessings of this life.” Gratitude is the least we can show for the blessing of our daily meal, and  it is the gateway to all other blessings, for without food we would not have the strength to pursue our dreams, visions, and life purpose.

Be grateful always for the blessing of food, and the ability to eat; some have food, but cannot eat; some can eat, but have no food; if you have food, and you can eat, never take it for granted, and when you find those who do not have food, a little help, a little act of kindness, a little gift of food, will go a long way, and is also a way of showing gratitude for that which you have. Be grateful, gratitude open doors to abundance.

366 days of wisdom (July 18, 2020)

Day 200 of wisdom

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

Carl Jung

One cannot live fully unless he simultaneously dig deep within himself to bring out that which is hidden within, and also look outside to attract what will work for him. We must dare to dream if we will grow, but our dreams can not come to life if we do not awake from our sleep. As much as we need to look around us to see whatever can add value to our lives, the best we can do is to look inward to bring out the treasure within.

Former American Congressman Bruce Barton once said, “Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstance.” if you will ever achieve something never achieved before, if you will go beyond the ordinary, you must trust your abilities, your talents, and skills, and put them to adequate use.

You are a reservoir of power, and greatness, you must not look down on yourself, or think lowly of yourself, and what you can become. Like Anne Frank wrote, “Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!”

We are limited only by limits, and barriers we set for ourselves. There are no limits to what a man can achieve in life, but man can limit himself to what he feels are his limits. We are who we think we are, and we are superior to our struggles, and circumstances, we are not to be controlled by circumstances, rather we should control, and determine how we come out of the circumstances.

VERY IMPOLITE PRINCIPALITIES (VIPs)

The concept of VIP, more than ever, calls for critical review, so we may know if it should still be accorded the same high regards as of old. Fundamentally, the term VIP is never a title, whether political, traditional or religious. VIP is rooted in attitude and sense of responsibility. VIPs in any civilized clime do not need to bother introducing, announcing or singing their own praises. But in the communities of unruly people, it is not uncommon to find some VIPs boasting, bragging and harassing other peace loving and humane citizens. They are VIPs.

It has been observed in the recent time that different brands of VIPs have suddenly begun springing up, especially in Africa. No thanks to the incursion of acute and seemingly incurable malady of corruption, which has become endemic across all facets of the nation state of Africa, defying all know remedies, rendering the majority of the citizenry of the continent  disenfranchised and practically pauperized.

Bringing the argument home, let’s zero in on the land of the “Giant” in the continent of Dwarfs. It is the richest land with the poorest people, arguably the land with the most porous purse in the globe. This land is littered with nuisance who branded themselves as VIPs, albeit, differs from the type we know. Hence, their credibility should be taken with a pinch of salt. While some are Very Impolite Principalities (VIPs), others are Very Ignoble Prisoners (VIPs). They have betrayed the trust reposed in them. Now, they are busy violating the rule of law in public places.

Once the former heavy weight boxing champion, Mohammed Ali, was onboard a flight. Everyone had tightened his belt except the almighty Ali Mohamed. One hostess walked to him and told him to tighten his belt, but the arrogant man said, “Super men don’t need no belt!” The hostess gave him a quick one, “Then, Supermen need no board no flight either.”  Here, certain Very Impolite Personalities (VIPs), who lack regard for human dignity, will not only violate the rule, they may as well violate such a hostess for insubordination. They are simply VIPs.

Day 199 of wisdom

“Roses grow on thorns and honey wears a sting”

Isaac Watts

Your life is determined, not by where you came from, but by what it is made up of. Your background should not limit where you should, and can get to in life, but it all depends on what you are determined to make out of your life. Everyone that comes into this world came through a channel, some are fortunate to come through  channels where things happen with ease, and in comfort, while others come through rocky, and crooked backgrounds.

Where you come from is not the determinant of where you are going. There is a saying that, “it is not your fault if you are born poor, but it is your fault if you die poor.” You truly do not have the privilege to choose how you would have been born, or where you should be born to, but you have the privilege to turn how you live, and die around from your unpleasant background.

Roses grow from thorns, but it brought pride to its mother stem, scarcely do people who get roses remember that its stem has thorns. Honey is produced by a bee that stings, and cause pain to anyone who tries intruding its territory, but honey is arguably one of the sweetest, and most potent antibiotic substance in the world,  What you become does not have to be determined by where you came from.

Life gives no one a chance, but everyone that makes an attempt towards changing the status quo always get a chance. Nothing come easy in life unless you take it hard. Hard work, determination, resilience, and foresight are ingredients necessary for a successful future. You may not be proud of your background, but it is up to you to make your background proud of you.

366 days of wisdom (July 16, 2020)

Day 198 of wisdom

“The only reason I enter an event is to win.”

Tiger Woods

Vince Lombardi once said, “winning isn't everything, it is the only thing.” except you begin to have the mindset that winning is the only thing, it will be difficult for you to win. This doesn't imply that you must not fail, but it means, even after a failure, after a fall, after a disappointment, you get up, rise up, stand up, and keep moving. It is the mindset that, it is not over until I win.

A winner is not someone who will not fail, or has not failed, a winner is someone who notwithstanding his failures continues until he wins. Legendary  American Basketball player Michael Jordan once said, “I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost more than 300 games. 26 times, I have been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.” failing continuously until one wins is the key to success.

Winning is not done in comforts zones, winning is done out of discomfort, and distress, one must be willing to give all it takes to win. Winning is not the most difficult thing to do, the most difficult thing is preparing to win. Preparing to win is not done with ease, one must suffer for as long as it will take in the secret preparing to win on the big stage, than to  go to the big to suffer loss.

Never start anything just for the fun of it. Whatever you start, let your purpose be to get to the end as a winner, you may fall on the way, but you must rise up again; you may fail at first try, but that should not be your last try, in fact, you must not stop trying until you win. Winning is not for quitters, winning is for those who accepts failure, but continues until they win.

366 days of wisdom (July 15, 2020)

Day 197 of wisdom

“A life without a cause is a life without effect.”

Paulo Coelho

Shannon L. Alder said, “If you want to discover the true character of a person, you have only to observe what they are passionate about.” the things one is passionate about are the things that summarizes who, and what a man truly is, it reveals his true character. Therefore, a man is only a true reflection of what he is willing to cause, not just what his environment, and circumstances make of him.

A man without a cause is a man that hasn't started living, he is a man who has not discovered why he was born, and will therefore be a passenger without effect unless he discovers a purpose, and attach that purpose to his existence. Terry Orlick once said, “The heart of human excellence often begins to beat when you discover a pursuit that absorbs you, frees you, challenges you, or gives you a sense of meaning, joy, or passion.” so, excellence follows purpose, the way to become an excellent person is to be a person of purpose.

Someone once said, “Work for a cause, not for applause. Live to express, not to impress, don't strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.” one must live not only for oneself, or for the present, but one must live for something beyond one's self. We must look beyond what we receive, or how we feel in fulfilling our purpose, but in the effect it causes on the people for whom we hope to impact.

Ernest Agyemang Yeboah said, “Do not overexert your true strength on people. Do not give too much of yourself to country. Exert your all, your true strength and might on a true and a solemn purpose and you have done it all.” When you live for a worthy cause, you have not only done people good, nor made your country proud, you have made, or are making the world a better place to live.

366 days of wisdom (July 14, 2020)

Day 196 of wisdom

“We can only be said to be truly alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

Thornton Wilder

Our treasures are those things we hold so dear to our hearts, that our heart are at ultimate peace when we are close to them, or at that moment we are conscious of them. They are not necessarily all physical, and tangible. Our family, friends, loved ones, beliefs, ideologies, faith are our treasures, they are the things that really define us, and are the things we live for, without these people, and phenomenon we may not be who we really are.

Robert Breault once said, "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Sometimes we may not recognize that certain things are the ones that makes our living worth it, we treat those things as though are are not important, but they are the real treasures that makes us happy, and keeps us going inspire of every challenges, and difficult situations.

We must not allow our daily activities deprive us of truly living. Living is not in what we gather, it is not in how we make ourselves feel, it is not in what we do for ourselves, but in what we do for others, how we make them feel, and what we make of them. To have truly lived is to have left a lasting impact on the people around us that will be felt even after we are gone.

Recognize your real treasures, cherish them as true treasures should be cherish, live fully in the consciousness of their presence, and how they make you feel. Enjoy every moment of your life, living for, and by those things that has made you who you are, and if you are not satisfied with who you are, you have the privilege, and opportunity to turn things around. Wipe off the old canvass, and start on a clean, and fresh one. No matter what happens ensure you truly live.

366 days of wisdom (July 13, 2020)

Day 195 of wisdom

“No thief, however skillful, can rob one of knowledge, and that is why knowledge is the best and safest treasure to acquire.”

L. Frank Baum

John F. Kennedy once said, “The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds.” one who knows nothing, does not know he knows nothing, until he really knows that which he does not know. As Lao Tzu said, “To know that you do not know is best. To think you know when you do not is a disease. Recognizing this disease as a disease is to be free of it.”

Proverbs  18:15 says, “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.” if you must prove your prudence, you must know, and if you must be seen as a wise man you must seek more knowledge. Knowledge is very important to the growth, development, and success of any man. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” so, if you really want to reap great rewards, and benefit from life, you must seek to increase your knowledge.

There is nothing that is more secure, and safe than what one knows. Knowledge is a treasure that one acquires that can never be taken away no matter what. Chains, and bounds cannot suppress knowledge, neither can it be taken away, knowledge acquired, is knowledge owned forever. Someone once said, “Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.” if you must fight a successful battle you must be a man of knowledge.

Isaiah  5:13 says, “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” no matter your stature, no matter your position, no matter your age, colour, race, or tribe, if you lack knowledge, you will suffer. Knowledge is as important as oxygen, your level of knowledge determines the level of your development, so seek knowledge.

366 days of wisdom (July 12, 2020)

Day 194 of wisdom

“The world clamors, 'Do more! Be all that you can be!' But our Father whispers, 'Be still and know that I am God.'”

Joanna Weaver

Everyone in life has a dream, a vision, and a purpose to fulfill, we wake up everyday pursuing these dreams, and visions, but sometimes we become overwhelmed by them that we are almost crashing beneath the weight of our life pursuits. The world clamours as we toil, and wander, pushing us to do more, go for more, strive harder, but they fail to realize how weak, feeble, and sapped out we are, it is at this point we must yield to the silent whisper of the One who makes everything easy, and possible saying, “Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)”

As much as we cannot do anything on our own, we don't have to be lazy, and idle, not doing what we must do at the time we ought to do it. In all we do we must always prioritize the place of our Father, God, and Creator, He  alone allows whatever He wills. He make everything possible, and gives us strength, and wisdom to do that which we do. Without Him nothing is done, and with Him all things are possible.

When you seem not to know which way to go; when all seems dark, and blurry; when the weight of life seems to be pulling you down, and everything is crashing, be still. You are not  alone, you are going through a process, you need to trust that process, you need to go through it, and you need to believe that, the end of that process will bring you closer to your purpose.

Your path is not similar to any other person, we all have different paths to our destinations in life, so, don't be caught in the web of comparison, an elephant should not be criticised for having a longer gestation period than a dog, the thing that is being formed in them is not the same. So, be yourself no matter the situation. However tough things get, however loud the noises get, however high the pressure may become, listen to the voice saying unto you, “Be still and know that I am God”

366 days of wisdom (July 11, 2020)

Day 193 of wisdom

"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying"

Micheal Jordan

Failure is not exclusive to a group of people, people fail in different areas of their lives, one can be excused for failing at something they started, but the excuse could be lifted if the failure is not rectified. Failing in life is not a problem, the major problem is in not trying at all. One who try, and fail would have an opportunity to start again on a better note, but one who never tries is worse than a failure.

Trying. and failing gives you a level of experience that cannot be learnt, or taught, except through personal experience. If you fail at everything, don't fail at trying, trying is the first step to success. Paulo Coelho wrote in one of his books, he said "There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure." The fear of failure makes one not want to try, but the secret is, "trying unlocks the door" so, if you do not try, you don't have a chance.

Someone said, "Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor" so, if you do not try, fail, and eventually succeed, how do your success get flavoured? What stories will you share? How will you encourage those coming behind you. Never fear failure, rather fear not trying. Success cannot be correctly, and properly defined without failure, success stories can never be complete without failure, so, fail but don't stop at failing, continue to try until you make it.

Until you stop trying you have not failed, try, fail, try again, fail again, but never stop trying, because only those who stop fails. Trying might cause you loses, it might bring you bruises, it might cause you shame, it can dampen your morale, but having the courage to continue despite the failure, shame, and pain is what brings success. “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.”

366 days of wisdom (July 10, 2020)

Day 192 of wisdom

“Great changes may not happen right away, but with effort even the difficult may become easy.”

Bill Blackman

Change is an inevitable thing, everything changes with time, but the only challenge is that, those changes may not be in ones favour, nothing in this world stays unchanged forever, no matter how little, change comes to everything each passing time, it may not be very significant, but it happens. In could either be for good, or bad; negative or positive; increase, or reduction; depreciation, or appreciation.

Some changes are forced, while some are caused. Forced changes are most times those we don't have any form of control over, they happen irrespective of our actions, or inactions, these changes are mostly natural, and cannot be altered except for very exceptional cases which could also be naturally induced. Caused changes are the ones we cause by what we do, or do not do, these changes are based on our decisions, and when we desire favourable changes we must take actions that will directly, or indirectly impact what we hope to change. These change  may not be rapid, or instant, but consistence brings the actual change.

If anything must change in our lives we must recognize the necessity for change, we must see the need to turn around our current situation, and begin to take actions towards turning it around, or else nothing changes. "Nothing changes, if nothing changes." Change is often a turnaround in direction, if you do not change the direction of your thoughts, actions, inactions, and deeds, nothing changes.

Albert Einstein once said, "the world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking." If we must see changes in anything we must change our way of thinking, our attitude, and our habits. Great changes doesn't come instantly, it comes gradually, it may be difficult, but with our determination, and doggedness we will eventually see our desired change.

366 days of wisdom (July 09, 2020)

Day 191 of wisdom

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

You must have heard the phrase "your destiny is in your hands", that is as true as truth could be, nothing could be more truer than that. Life may deal with you in ways you don't expect but ultimately you decide what you become by the way you live, the things you do, and the things you did not do. No one in the world has the right to determine what you become except you give them the permission to.

On your journey to becoming, you are the single most important determinant of where you get to, what you do, how you do it, and what you wouldn't do. You are the main actor, and director of the movie of your life. You need no certification, authentication, or approval by anyone else but yourself, whatever you do, or say goes, but you must also be ready to bear the consequences, and benefits of whatever you do, say, or wouldn't do.

Albert Ellis in very profound words which cannot be better put, and so plain, said that “The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.” When you take responsibility for your life, it is a reflection of who you are, and who you are becoming, and whatever you decide to be you will become.

Someone once said, "Not everyone will understand your journey. It is not their journey to make sense of yours." Your journey  is uniquely yours, no other person shares your journey, no other person shares your process, no other person shares your story, your destiny is yours to pursue. If you choose to be happy, you will receive happiness. Your purpose, and destiny are your major identities in the world, if you fail to achieve them, your have not really lived. So,live.

366 days of wisdom (July 08, 2020)

Day 190 of wisdom

“The envious person grows lean with the fatness of their neighbor.”

Socrates

Envy (from Latin invidia) is an emotion which "occurs when a person lacks another's superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it". Aristotle defined envy as pain at the sight of another’s good fortune, stirred by “those who have what we ought to have.” Bertrand Russell said that envy was one of the most potent causes of unhappiness. (Wikipedia)

Envy is birthed when one is discontent with that which he has, envy does not have any positive effect on the one who bears it, but saps the person of strength, happiness, and joy; envy makes the bearer grow lean while the envied grows fat. One who desire greatness, and aspire to grow must not be envious of those who have, but rejoice in their good fortunes, for in doing so good fortunes become attracted to us.

Ancient Indian teacher, philosopher, economist, jurist, and royal advisor, Chanakya said, "The learned are envied by the foolish; rich men by the poor; chaste women by adulteresses; and beautiful ladies by ugly ones." Your attitude determines what side of the divide you are in, whether on the negative where the foolish, poor, and ugly belong, or on the positive where the rich, chaste, learned, and beautiful belong.

Socrates also said, "Envy is the ulcer of the soul", it eats up a man, and reduces him to nothingness. Deal with envy, fight it, do not let it overcome you, be content with what you have, envy no man, but be glad of other's good, labour to become your best, dream of greatness, work towards improvement, and the sky will be your starting point.

366 days of wisdom (July 07, 2020)

Day 189 of wisdom

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

Ernest Hemingway

True nobility is not in what you make of yourself, but what you make of other people. You do not become truly noble by becoming superior to your fellow men, but you become noble when you become better than the person you were the day before today. To attain nobility, you must always make determined, and consistent effort to be a better person today than you were yesterday.

Anyone who have striven hard to get to the top, and realizes how difficult it is to get there must not neglect the ones who are struggling to attain same level he is, but must look for ways of assisting, and making it easy for those ones to attain great heights also. Anyone who help make others grow, and attain heights of greatness can hardly fall from the top, his place at the top will only be consolidated.

Seek not to be better than your fellow men, but seek to be better today than your former self. Do not revel in your superiority to anyone, but rejoice in the fact that your former self is no more a competition to your new self. Your biggest competition is no other than the man you were yesterday, so, winning the battle against yourself is to have won the ultimate battle.

There is no limit to what you can become, or heights you can attain in life, you only need to continue to grow, continue to develop yourself, and continue to aim high every passing day. Someone once said. "The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement" improvement is a continuous striving, and success has no end point, like Benjamin Franklin said, “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. “ every success attained is a platform for greater success, so, always go for more.

366 days of wisdom (July 06, 2020)

Day 188 of wisdom

“When we fail to achieve our lifelong dreams, we must ask 'Am I really failing, or is God prevailing?'”

Inky Johnson.

Humans wake up daily having a dream to pursue, a purpose to fulfill for the day, and these day to day activities are tailored towards an ultimate end result which is to achieve our lifelong dreams of becoming whatever we want to achieve, and become whatever we want to become in life. But sometimes, events does not unfold as we expect they would, and life just deals with us in ways that does not go in synchronization with our efforts.

When things begin to happen in the opposite direction, in manners that negate our expectations, rather than being sad, and in despair we must ask ourselves this very important question which may well define our we see the situation, and its ultimate outcome, this question opens up our mind to see beyond the situation, and look at the purpose of the situation, the question is “Am I really failing, or is God prevailing?”

When we are failing, when things are not working in our favour, we may not actually be failing, God may be perfecting His will in our life, His will may not be in line with our plan, but we must trust that His will supersedes whatever our plans are, and will bring us the best we can ever think or imagine. We should therefore be sure of where the situation will lead to before reaching a conclusion.

God's ways are higher than our ways, and always guarantee us better outcomes, so, even while we are failing at our pursuit, God may be prevailing over our life, so we must let God have His way, and give Him the chance to shape our life, destiny, and future into the best that He wants for us, for that is the ultimate, and best we can ever achieve in life.

366 days of wisdom (July 05, 2020)

Day 187 of wisdom

“We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life.”

Sir William Osler

Our life on earth is not always about what we can get from life, but what we can give to life. God gave us life as the ultimate gift, what we do with our life is our gift to God. We must live our lives in a way that adds value to other peoples life. In the words of world renowned Life coach, public speaker, and Author Anthony J. Robbins who said, "Only those who have learned the power of sincere, and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy, and fulfillment."

If we must experience joy, and happiness, we must make others happy, we must put smile on people's face, and create a better world for others. We only get what we give, whatever we don't give we cannot receive, and if we don't do that which we are meant to do, the world will be short of the good it should have. It is the good we do that makes the world a better place, if we refuse to make our own contribution to the world we will not have the best we need in our world.

Deepak Chopra once said, "Each of us is a unique strand in the intricate web of life and here to make a contribution." If we fail to make our own contribution to the web, or we do it haphazardly we weaken the web, and threaten the progress, unity, and oneness of our world. What we do to others will never be forgotten, but what we do for ourselves will die with us. We should therefore not be weary in making the world a better place.

A tree never makes a forest, no one ever become great in isolation, we should therefore be ready to put in our best to make the world a better place than we met it. Choose to be a stakeholder in building our world. It is not just about what we get from life, life's most important achievement is about what we can give to life.

366 days of wisdom (July 04, 2020)

Day 186 of wisdom

“Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door. ”

Emily Dickinson

Life does not present anything to any man on a platter of gold, one must work very hard to achieve whatever he wants from life, and take advantages of the privileges that may be presented to him in any way they come. There are no opportunities anywhere, but opportunities arises everywhere, it is left to us to unveil opportunities, and make use of them the best way we can.

In recognizing opportunities we need to be wise, and open minded, we must think beyond what we see, and look towards what can be, opportunities are not always in what exists, but in what we can bring into existence. Francis Bacon once said, “A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.” opportunities may not always be available everywhere we look, but we can create an opportunity where there seem not to be any.

Sometimes, the things that pulls us down are an opportunity to rise beyond our lows, they are supposed to be stepping stones to climb to higher levels. In the words of Henry Ford, “Failure is only the opportunity more intelligently to begin again.” when we fail, we have the opportunity to start again on a cleaner, and a better slate, being wiser, and more prepared for the task, having formally been through that path.

When obstacles come our path, we must realize that sometimes opportunities comes as obstacles so they can become stepping stones, to where we should, or ought to be. Where people see difficulties, we must look out for the opportunities therein. Opportunities often come disguised as difficulties, but when we face it prepared, and willing, we will make it through, and we will come out better than we went into that situation.

366 days of wisdom (July 03, 2020)

Day 185 of wisdom

“The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you're made of, not the circumstances. ”

Mel Robbins

Circumstances in life does not always come to disrupt, dent, destabilize, or destroy us, most times they are allowed into our lives to bring the best out of us. Circumstances always come to squeeze out what is within us, and not to make us what we are not. When orange is squeezed it gives orange juice; when when you squeeze lemon it give you lemon juice; orange does not give you blood when squeezed, so when circumstances come, it brings out what you have in you.

Cheerfulness is a choice, one can maintain a cheerful spirit in the face of rough, tough, and difficult situations, or choose to be destroyed by the same circumstances. Keeping your cool, and calm despite the difficulties you encounter says a lot about who you really are, and tearing down yourself, giving up, quitting also shows the weakness of your spirit.

In the words of Henri Frederic, "it is not what he has, or what he does which expresses the worth of a man, but what he is." Let your true self, your inner being be the poster of what you truly are, don't let circumstances change your being, rather work on changing, and remoulding your circumstances to suit your life, and purpose.

Strength, integrity, courage, power, wisdom, compassion, and optimism are the virtues of great minds, and will be exhibited no matter the circumstances around them, they must always allow their inner strength to win no matter what. External circumstances should not control a man, but he must control the circumstances around him, and make the best use of every situation.

366 days of wisdom (July 02, 2020)

Day 184 of wisdom

“It is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser. ”

Harry Sheehy

Winston Churchill, once said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Whether you win, or lose, the will, the tenacity, and the courage to continue on your tracks determine how far you go, and how well you do on your journey to the next level. If you win today, and you don't continue doing the things you did that led you to success, or do better than what you always do, you will lose on your next attempt.

When one wins he should not look down on the one who lost to him, because the tides may turn tomorrow. Your attitude towards the one you won determines if you truly are a winner, or a loser. Someone once said, "winning doesn’t have to be at someone’s expense." Sometimes someone else don't have to lose for you to be a winner, but if it must be so, don't destroy people's personality because they lost to you.

Life coach, Speaker, and Author, Rasheed Ogunlaru once said, "Champions realise that defeat - and learning from it even more than from winning - is part of the path to mastery." Sometimes defeats are the best way to gain mastery of whatever we do, want to do, and become, we learn a lot more from defeat than we do from winning. As much as winning is desired, losing should not be despised, but must be learnt from.

You derive strength, strong will, and tenacity from the struggles we go through on our journey to success, than from actual success. If we really desire winning we must be determined not to quit until we win. In the words of Chinonye J. Chidolue "Winning is not always punctual but eventually it comes." and when it comes, it does not come to those who have quit, but those who continues despite the hurdles, and challenges.

366 days of wisdom (July 01, 2020)

Day 183 of wisdom

“Let perseverance be your engine and hope your fuel.”

H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Pure gold is one of the most valuable, and most expensive substance on earth, but it does not just come out being pure, it passes through intense heat, and chemical substances before it becomes pure. In life, nothing of real value, and importance is ever achieved through ease or inconsequential effort, it must be achieved through thorough, and intense hard work.

It will always get tough, but you must also exhibit toughness if you must keep going, like in the words of Joseph Kennedy who said, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." Irrespective of how tough, and rough the road may be, irrespective of the oppositions you might encounter you must strive to keep moving, you must look for the door where there is a wall, you must see the light at the end if the tunnel.

Earl Nightingale once said "don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use." Whether you do a thing or not, the time it will take for that thing to be accomplished will come, and pass, why not invest that time in achieving something tangible for yourself.

A mountain does not make someone to fall, or trip, it is the small pebbles on our paths that makes us trip, if we pass by the pebbles, if we manage to go over the small stones, we will discover we have crossed the mountain. If we must achieve what we hope for, if we must get to the end of the road, we must persevere, we must be patient, we must keep moving, and we must keep hope alive, for hope is the fuel that keeps us going.
