INDEPENDENT
The quest and crave for freedom, independence, and liberty should not be the main aim and focus of any man or society, but the development of necessary and needed capacity, skills and abilities to make right judgements and decisions, while accepting responsibilities for various outcomes of their decisions as an independent and liberal person or society.
In the words of the great Ghanaian revolutionary leader, Kwame Nkrumah, "The best way of learning to be an independent sovereign state is to be an independent sovereign state." If a state has therefore been independent and sovereign for a long period of time, and has not learnt how to be a good independent, and sovereign state for the betterment of her citizens and people, there has been a problem that needs attention and care. A nation though free from external rule, but without internal freedom is not an INDEPENDENT nation.
Being independent does not translate to the absence of interaction and relation with other persons or societies, neither does it mean that one is all-sufficient, but that one can determine with whom his interactions and relationships are made, established, and terminated whenever it may be necessary. One can also navigate the course of his journey as may be necessary for growth and development.
A truly independent nation is a nation where all her citizens are happy and at home wherever they are within the borders of that nation; they seek no other place of refuge or escape, their hopes and faith in the future is bright and secure; and they can confidently trust and support those who lead them to take them to the promised land, that is to be truly INDEPENDENT.
