GRATITUDE

GRATITUDE

A popular Yoruba adage says "Ti omodé bá dúpé óré àná, á rí imi gbá." meaning, "If a child shows gratitude for yesterday's favour, he will get another." The guarantee for continuous reception of favour is a consistent attitude of gratitude. Most of the things we get are freely given to us, we hardly deserve them, but some men do not realize this but take the opportunities and privileges for granted.

Most times, gratitude is expressed by words of mouth, but in truth, without corresponding actions to back up our confessions, we might not be considered as really grateful. If we are grateful for something received, we will not be selfish with the use of that thing, we would use it for the maximum benefit of everyone that might be in need of it.

We must never cease to be grateful for anything and everything, the more we show gratitude and appreciation for what we have, the more we would have and receive. We have a sense of fulfillment, the courage to ask for more, and the confidence that we will have if we ask, when we show gratitude. Like Melody Beattie once said, "Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

In the words of William Arthur Ward "Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." It is not just enough to have the feeling of GRATITUDE, you must show, express, and live a lifestyle of GRATITUDE, it is the gateway to having all other expectations.
