RIDING ON CRITICISM.
While criticism can often feel discouraging, it is an inevitable part of life. Learning to ride on criticism instead of being weighed down by it can be a transformative experience. By reframing our perspective of criticism, we can harness its potential to fuel personal and professional growth. It is crucial to understand that while some criticisms are aimed at undermining or belittling our efforts, there will be others that seek to help us improve our performance, behaviour, and attitudes towards certain aspects of life.
Instead of viewing criticism as a threat, we can shift our perspective to see it as a chance to learn and evolve. When we understand that receiving criticism does not imply a lack of worth or ability, and we detach our self-identity from our work or what we are being criticised for, we accept feedback more openly. This would help us put in more effort into developing relevant abilities, and intelligence necessary to move forward on our paths.
When faced with criticism, take the time to carefully listen to the feedback provided. Avoid becoming defensive. Listening actively not only shows respect but can also provide clarity. It can be helpful to take a step back and reflect on the feedback before reacting; also ensure that your response is thoughtful and respectful. Expressing gratitude for the feedback received demonstrates maturity and openness. It can also foster a more constructive relationship moving forward.
Accepting criticism and admitting areas for improvement can feel vulnerable, but it fosters authentic connections with others and encourages a culture of openness. Criticism is a natural part of life, but it does not have to be a stumbling block. By embracing a proactive approach to feedback, we can transform criticism into a powerful tool for growth. Riding on criticism, rather than being overwhelmed by it, enables us to unlock our potential, emerge stronger, and be more resilient in the face of challenges.
To a better you, Kamikun John.
