FINISH WITH GRATITUDE

A Yoruba adage says, "A person who can think, will know how to show gratitude." For every stage, for every situation, for every place we find ourselves in life, there is always a reason to be grateful. Gratitude is the key that opens the door to more, it is the password that grants access to the realm of abundance, it is the evidence that we value and recognize the worth of what we have received.

For many people, their current situation and level in life is a dream come through, it is a prayer answered, it has been a lifelong desire; however, the achievement of the present has launched them into another level of demands, and have created the craving for a higher level, forgetting that they were once in a place that has now become history, they become ungrateful for what they already have, and where they currently stand.

To finish with gratitude is not to deny the struggle we have been through, it is not to pretend the path was easy or the burden was light, it is to recognize that within the struggle itself there have been gifts that made us stronger, there has been progress we never imagined was possible, and we have moved to a better place. Sometimes, you don't get what you bargained for, at other times, you get more than you thought you could have. Whatever it is, gratitude makes everything better.

When you are grateful, you become more observant, more generous, more open, you start to see support where you once saw only obstacles, you begin to recognize the privilege of effort, the privilege of having a goal, the health to pursue it, and the time to strive for it. Finishing with gratitude ensures you don't just take from an experience, but you give back to it with your acknowledgement. As you approach the end, count your blessings, and name them one by one.

To a better you, Kamikun John.
