Day 275 of wisdom

“Freedom cannot be bestowed — it must be achieved.”

Elbert Hubbard

Independence is nothing without freedom, and freedom is not an item wrapped in a gift box and handed over to someone, freedom is tenaciously fought for, and achieved; Independence is not a celebration, it is a way of life; independence is not about one day, or an anniversary in a nations life, it is about everyday of a nations life. A nation cannot regard herself as free or independent when her sons and daughters are always in pursuit of greener pastures on the other side of the Atlantic; a nation can not be called free or independent, when a minority live in extravagant, and excessive wealth accrued dubiously, while the majority of her people live in extreme poverty begging for daily meals.

One cannot switch masters and think in himself that he is free, he is worse than being in bondage. A baby who is not matured enough to break bones but left his mother's suckles untimely, then goes around begging and scavenging for milk from another's suckles is only creating a future of problems for himself. William Faulkner once said, “We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.” Freedom that is not practiced is not freedom, you are not free because you say you are free, you are free because you live free.

Great men have at different times made their perspective about freedom known, their statements broadens the spectrum on the discuss. Nelson Mandela in his words said, “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Kwameh Nkrumah said something that best validate this statement when he said, “The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked-up with the total liberation of the African Continent.” He realised that without a splurge of independence for other African countries, Ghana is not truly independent, which is the true essence of independence.

An independence that only benefits a few and neglect the major whole is not true independence, it must be renegotiated. As John F. Kennedy said, “The great revolution in the history of man, past, present and future, is the revolution of those determined to be free.” Freedom is begotten through determination. A nation is not independent until its people are truly free.

These sayings were put together to tickle your thoughts on what an idle nation should be, how her people should act, and what freedom really entails.

“Is freedom anything else than the right to live as we wish? Nothing else." - Epictetus.

“No person is your friend (or kin) who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.” - Alice Walker.

“Nations survive and advance with brains, wise policies, and manpower — not through speeches and cheap populist agitation.” - Anonymous.

“If this country is ever demoralised, it will come from trying to live without work.” - Abraham Lincoln.

“Misery and poverty of a nation is associated with the consciousness of its people not leaders.” - M.F. Moonzajer.

“To keep any great nation up to a high standard of civilization there must be enough superior characters to hold the balance of power, but the very moment the balance of power gets into the hands of second-rate men and women, a decline of that nation is inevitable.” - Christian D. Larson.

“A nation is not defined by its borders or the boundaries of its land mass Rather, a nation is defined by adverse people who have been unified by a cause and a value system and who are committed to a vision for the type of society they wish to live in and give to the future generations to come.” - Fela Durotoye.

“The nation that honors a dancer more than a scholar is no more a nation.” - M.F. Moonzajer.

“What we need now is a nation of great people who live to positively impact others and build enduring legacies.” - Fela Durotoye.

“We cannot expect that all nations will adopt like systems, for conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.” - John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

“A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.” - John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Day 274 of wisdom

“Practice puts brains in your muscles.”

Samuel Snead

When a man wakes up, and gets up he needs no support, he stands on his feet and go around doing whatever he wants to do with ease, he does not need to think before his legs would walk, he needs nothing special to get on the move, his legs knows what to do as soon as he steps on them. This was not the case a few years into his existence, at a point he struggled to crawl, before struggling to stand on his feet, and eventually getting up to walk, and then run, today he does all these things effortlessly. This is because he has consistently done it overtime, the muscles in his legs need not be told what to do when they are called upon. Whatever a man consistently does, he begins to do with ease, this is the philosophy of practice. The best way to master a skill, or become better in it, is to practice that skill consistently.

Bruce Lee once said, "Practice makes perfect. After a long time of practicing, our work will become natural, skillful, swift, and steady." if you want to be so good in doing a thing that you so much desire to do, practice doing that thing consistently; if you want to be the best in the world in your own field, you must be able to do what is required of you with so much ease that makes doing it feel like play.

In the words of Jim Rohn who said, "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day." if you would achieve success, you must through discipline, hard work, and determination put yourself to consistent practice of your art, skills, and talent, and become comfortable with process, or else your dreams will only stare at you in the face. Athletes do not wait until tournament day before they practise, in fact they practise everyday of their professional lives to ensure they stay in shape for every opportunity to compete.

One of the greatest pianists of all time Franz Liszt once said, “If I miss practicing one day, I know it; if I miss two days, my friends know it; and if I miss three days, the public knows it.” the only guarantee to continuous improvement is continuous practice. In practicing you must also ensure to practice right, because if you practice wrongly you only become better at doing it wrongly. You must believe in yourself, and your abilities to succeed but beyond believing, you must practice. You are what you consistently do, so, do consistently what you want to become.

Day 273 of wisdom

“It isn't the mountain ahead that wears you out; it's the grain of sand in your shoe.”

Robert W. Service

Most of the times it is not what is outside you that determine what or who you become, but what is inside you. Our external environment does not affect us as much as our internal environment does. It is our attitude towards our challenges, not the challenges themselves that limits us. Many strong and powerful men look in pursuit of their life long dreams gets worn out, frustrated, and weak, they focus on their dreams and goals, and think they are the reasons for their plight, but they fail to look inwards to see what really slows them down in their tracks.

There are a myriads of little pebbles, stones, and grains that slows men down, if some of these things are not checked, they will be the reasons some men will not achieve their life long dreams. Some are limited by the pebbles of procrastination, they have big dreams, but they procrastinate so much until they are old, weak, and fragile that they would no more have the strength to pursue these dreams; anger is some men's pebbles drawing them back from achieving their purpose, they get angry at everybody at every slight opportunity and have through this made potential supporters turn their backs on them; laziness, fear, lack of focus, greed, and indiscipline are some of the other grains in people's shoes slowing them down or even hindering their eventual success.

If we must make our goals and visions come to reality, we must fix the little issues that runs our batteries out, we must remove the little pebbles, and shake off the the grains of sand in our shoes. As a man that intends to climb a mountain ensures he is free from anything that can pull him down, but is loaded with stuffs that will be needed on his journey to the top of the mountain, so must we free ourselves from any encumbrances, and equip ourselves with the necessary skills, and knowledge that is needed to take us to our dream land.

The mountains ahead of you may be very big that it scare you, but you must realise that you are far more capable to climb and cross over, you must know that it is only a platform for you to have a preview of the great things that lies ahead of you, you must approach it with courage and confidence, and be determined to see the other side of the mountain. There exists no limitations anywhere in the world, except those you set up in your mind.

366 days of wisdom (September 28, 2020)

Day 272 of wisdom

“We live in a thinker's world, thinkers rule the world; If you are not a thinker, you end up as a slave.”

David Oyedepo

The ease at which one achieves slavery, penury, and uselessness is so profound that it requires doing only one very simple, and stressless thing, NOTHING. The world we live in is a world ruled by thinkers, everyone who has become somebody today had to think they can become somebody, and now they are who they are. If you can think, you can become, but if you can't think, you cannot become. "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:..." (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). You become what you consistently think, and if you think nothing, you become nothing.

The legendary Mohamed Ali in his day thought he was the greatest, he said he was the greatest, and he became the greatest; Usain Bolt is the fastest man the world has ever seen, he thinks no one can beat him, and that is why he became and is still the fastest man we have ever seen; Christiano Ronaldo from his teenage years have always believed and thought he would be very rich and famous, he thought he was the best soccer player in the world, today he is the richest soccer player, and is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. All these men thought they could become and they became.

You are where you are today because you think that is where you should be, the moment you think you are better than where you are, you will begin to work towards getting to where you should be. If your thoughts have gotten you into a mess, your thoughts will also bring you out of that mess, but it must be a changed thought. Like Albert Einstein said, "we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." when you want to change your results, you must first change your thoughts.

Your thoughts are the vehicles to your desired destination, whatever you think you can, you will receive the strength to do, and whatever you think you can't, you will not be able to do. As much as you need to think to become, thinking alone does not guarantee you the results, thinking only pushes you to pursue, to work, and to live the life of your dreams, As Francois de La Rochefoucauld said, "Thinkers think and doers do. But until the thinkers do and the doers think, progress will be just another word in the already overburdened vocabulary by sense."

Day 271 of wisdom

“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.”

Mandy Hale

Beauty is not only in what is seen, but also in our words, actions, and deeds towards our fellow men. When we go out of our way to make life beautiful for others, we are creating the most beautiful scenes, and painting the most beautiful portraits that can ever be. Life is not always about what we can do, make, or gather for ourselves, but about what we can do for others, give to others, or make of them. The most successful people in the world are not those who have become very successful themselves, but those who have made many people successful.

In the words of of the legendary comic actor, Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin KBE popular known as Charlie Chaplin, he said, "Life laughs at you when you are unhappy; Life smiles at you when you are happy; But life salutes you when you make other happy." there is no better way to live than to make other peoples life better. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson also said, "to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Our success lies in the success of others, if we succeed but they fail, we haven't really succeeded.

To the person who is weak and falling, be a shoulder to lean on; to the one who weep day and night, be a finger to wipe the tears away; to the one whom the loads of life are weighing down, be an helping hand to help lift some load; to the ones whose legs are weak, and feeble, give support to move them forward; to the ones whose paths are dark, be a light to show the way. When all is said, and done, when all those around you whom you have helped are succeeding on all fronts, when you examine your own life, you will discover how successful you have become.

William Arthur Ward said very aptly with these words, "Every person has the power to make others happy. Some do it simply by entering a room others by leaving the room. Some individuals leave trails of gloom; others, trails of joy. Some leave trails of hate and bitterness; others, trails of love and harmony. Some leave trails of cynicism and pessimism; others trails of faith and optimism. Some leave trails of criticism and resignation; others trails of gratitude and hope. What kind of trails do you leave?"

366 days of wisdom (September 26, 2020)

Day 270 of wisdom

“I was just tired of losing... Life was passing me by.”

Serena Williams

As a tennis player, she didn't start her carrier on a smooth ride, Serena Williams was not a force to reckon with at the age of fourteen when she took to the stage at a major tournament in 1995, she was dumped out at the qualifying rounds, and and in the following year did not appear in any tournament. In 1997, she returned and lost in three consecutive qualifying rounds, before upsetting then world No. 7, and world No. 4 later that year being ranked No. 304 in the world. In July 2002 Serena has risen to the No. 1 rank in the world. She has been world No. 1 for a total of 319 weeks third highest in history, and has won the 23 grand slams, the most by any player in the open era.

Serena has become a champion because she got tired of losing, she got tired of sitting and letting life pass her by, she was tired of seeing her dreams vaporise right before her eyes, so, she became determined to become a fighter, a goal getter, and ultimately a winner living her Dreams. Though the journey started very rough, she was not given a free ride to glory, yet she was not going to give up, she retreated, and came back, her return was not also too good but she kept pressing on until she got to where she wanted to be.

Your dreams can only be fulfilled when you are ready, willing, and determined to make it a reality. You must be tired of the status quo; you must be tired of falling, and failing; you must be ready to liberate yourself from your state of being a loser, and rise to the heights of dreams actualisation. She once said "I have always considered myself the best and the top. I never considered that I was out of it." To be a winner you must see yourself as a winner and never think less of yourself, you must see yourself at the top because, what you think is what you become.

If you don't pursue your dreams, no one will bring it to you; if you don't fight for what you truly want, no one will give it to you on a platter of gold; you don't get what you deserve in life, you get what you fight for. Though defeats might come your way, it must not weigh you down, you must learn to rise from every defeat a stronger, better, and more determined man, you must realise that defeats are part of the journey, and they must be used as stepping stones to your dream land. Life waits for no man, live the life of your dreams.

366 days of wisdom (September 25, 2020)

Day 269 of wisdom

“What makes a river so restful to people is that it doesn't have any doubt - it is sure to get where it is going, and it doesn't want to go anywhere else.”

Hal Boyle.

The sun rays is so powerful that it can be used to turn any substance into ashes, but the sun rays due to its dispersed nature has lost its power to consume any substance, if it were to be converged through a convex, it will burn whatever is on its path into ashes. Such is the power of focus. Focus is the ability to remain concentrated to a particular cause, it is maintaining an unwavering commitment towards one's dreams, and visions. A focused mind is a powerful mind, it does not know limitations, it only sees one end, and that is achieving that which he has set out to achieve.

One must be careful of the monkey mind, the mind that is never focused, the mind to which everything looks attractive and must be perched upon, this kind of mentality never achieves anything meaningful. A person with a monkey mind always turn out to be a 'Jack of all trades, master of none' knowing little about everything, but never knowing enough about something; starting so many things, and never completing any.

As important as focus is, focus alone does not get one to his destination, one must add determination, discipline, and persistence to focus so as to make for a complete set of necessary vehicles towards one's desired destination, not forgetting courage which as described by Maya Angelou is "the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently." Without the courage to pursue your dreams, you can't be determined, disciplined, and persistent in the pursuit of your desired dreams, and heart desires.

The storms may rage fiercely, but it also make people stronger, it should never stop you from pursuing your dreams, the storms will not last forever. In the words of Roy T. Bennett, "When the going gets tough, put one foot in front of the other and just keep going. Don’t give up." never lose sight of your dreams, keep your gaze always on that which your heart sincerely desires, the best way out of tough times, out of the storms is always through it. Be at peace with yourself, never doubt that you will get to where you want to be, just keep going, look not to the left nor to the right and you will get there.

366 days of wisdom (September 24, 2020)

Day 268 of wisdom

“And you ask “what if I fall?" Oh but my darling, what if you fly?”

Erin Hanson

Have you at any point in time wanted to do something so badly but you kept on procrastinating for a long time for fear of falling, or failing until one day, you resolved within yourself that you were ready and willing to give it whatever it was going to take, and when you eventually did it, it was far more easier than you expected, that you blamed yourself for not doing it earlier? You don't know how high you can fly until you spread your wings to fly, you don't know how far you can go until you embark on the journey to your desired destination.

Like Helen Keller said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." if you dare nothing, you get nothing, you achieve nothing. Neil Gaiman also said, "If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained." profit is the reward for taking risks, and great profit is the reward for great risk, the greater the risk the greater the profit, but if you fear taking risks, you should also understand that it is even more risky not to take risks, because lack of risk taking only guarantees that the status quo remains the same or even go worse.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Don't be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." the more trials you give to realising your dreams, the greater your chances of succeeding at it. You can try and fail, but never fail to try, if you fail at trying you become better than the man who never tries anything. Even when you fail, do not quit, there is no reward for quitting, and it is not over until you win.

In the words of the great American essayist, poet, and philosopher, Henry David Thoreau who said, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler." never doubt your abilities; be confident in your skills, and talents; never think you can't; you are only limited by the barriers you set for yourself; if you can dream it, you can achieve it. You think you will fall, my dear, what if you fly? Just try and you will surely fly.

366 days of wisdom (September 23, 2020)

Day 267 of wisdom

“To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

Joseph Chilton Pearce

If you knew for a certainty that you have no limitations, if you knew very well that there is nothing you want to do that you cannot do, if you knew that the only reason you have not succeeded is because you harbour fear in your heart, what will you do differently, how will you react to that knowledge? We are much more powerful than we can ever imagine, there is no limit to what we can achieve, or become in life but, we limit ourselves by allowing fear to have a foothold on us, we limit ourselves by trading our strength for an apartment for fear in our minds.

All men are born to create, to build, to produce, and to succeed, creativity is natural to every man, but many have successfully trashed their creative minds for fear of being wrong, for fear of not measuring up to standard, for fear of failing, for fear of criticism thereby leaving themselves in a state of mediocrity. Would you rather live a lowly, middle class, and worthless life than to explore all the gifts, talents, and skills that you possess? Are you satisfied with being mediocre, when you can become a global brand? The answer to these questions is you. You determine where you get to, what you become by what you do, and don't do.

Everything you need to be whatever you want to be is within you, look no further, you need not external validation to pursue your dreams, you should go for whatever makes you happy irrespective of what people think, feel, or say about it, it is your life to live not theirs, it is your dream to achieve not theirs, it is your future to build not theirs. Never hand over to anyone the key to your happiness because they can deprive you of it forever. Live your life on your own terms, not by the dictates of another man.

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better." not everyone will pursue their dreams, not everyone will put their creativity to use, do not be a part of the majority that will not follow their dreams, but strive to be among the minority that will through their creativity, and purposeful pursuit of their dreams make the world a better place. Expel fear, promote courage, pursue your dreams, and you will be better for it.

366 days of wisdom (September 22, 2020)

Day 266 of wisdom

“Applause is a receipt, not a bill.”

Dale Carnegie

Every good work always receive recognition for the work done; medals, awards, rewards, profit, and applause are some of the receipts for hard work. You don't buy all these or beg for them, you work to earn them. Though it is the constant craving and the aim of weak minds, applause spur great minds  to action, it motivates them to do more, go for more and become more. Applause don't come before work, it comes after work, it comes at the end of success.

Chadwick Boseman once said, "I would love to have an ocean of love right now. That said, the number-one rule of acting is, 'Do not seek approval from the audience.' People don't realize that. You can't do stuff to get applause. You have to live in the truth." applause should not come before work, you shouldn't seek people's approval to do anything you want to do, all you need is you desire, strength, and commitment to pursue, and achieve your dreams. The only license you need to be what you want to be is from  yourself.

You will be truly happy when you don't expect applause from people for whatever you do, as Dale Carnegie also said, "The person who seeks all their applause from outside has their happiness in another's keeping"

If you work hard you will certainly achieve success, but most importantly you will become a better person yourself, because success is not all about what you are able to gather for yourself or achieve, but what you become in the process of pursuing success. Accolades will come as an addition not because it is cheap but because you deserve it.

Put off your dancing shoes, put on your marching shoes; take off your bedroom slippers, put on your work boots; enough of the designer wears, time for the overalls, there is work to do, no time for play, life is too short to waste away. Shut your ears to the noises, let it not be a distraction; stop crying, stop whining, stop complaining, you don't get rewarded for all these, you have to get to work. Put in the work you need to achieve your goals, get the results, the accolades, and applause will flow in.

366 days of wisdom (September 21, 2020)

Day 265 of wisdom

“To begin, begin.”

William Wordsworth

Countless dreams never came to pass because the dreamer refused to wake up; so many visions were never brought to life because, the visioner never begun to act on his vision; the world never saw millions and billions of talents because, those carrying them waited for the best time to showcase them, which they never saw, even when it came. Myles Monroe once said, “The wealthiest place in the world is not the gold mines of South America or the oil fields of Iraq or Iran. They are not the diamond mines of South Africa or the banks of the world. The wealthiest place on the planet is just down the road. It is the cemetery. There lie buried companies that were never started, inventions that were never made, bestselling books that were never written, and masterpieces that were never painted. In the cemetery is buried the greatest treasure of untapped potential.”

A lot of people have gone to the grave with what they should have created and left on earth to immortalise them, but they never started. You may be blessed with a lot of talents, very skillful in certain arts, and have the vision to build something the world have never seen, you may have an idea that will transform the world, but if you refuse to start, if you never begin, nothing will happen, nothing will change.

Starting is the only way to achieving whatever you want to achieve, without a beginning there can not be a process, neither will there be a result. Do not wait for the right time, do not expect the best time to come before you begin. You may the afraid of failure, you may not be fully prepared, your dream may not be convincing to the people you share it with, but if you just start in spite of your fears, in spite of the discouragement, if you press on, and never quit you will come to a pleasant, and fulfilling end.

Like Mark Twain said, "the secret to getting ahead is getting started." if you don't get started you can't get ahead. Too many thoughts paralyses your drive to start, you begin to see why you can't start, what more you need to start, and you lose the drive to start, but if you just start, you get on track, and you get committed, you will discover that you just keep advancing forward, quitting will no more be an option as it will be a complete sabotage of your efforts. To begin, just begin.

366 days of wisdom (September 20, 2020)

Day 264 of wisdom

“God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars.”

Martin Luther

There are sometimes fierce debates as to the existence, or non-existence of God, some men vehemently believe and declare that there is no God, and therefore earnestly tries to prove the non-existence of the One who created the universe. I believe the easiest way to ascertain, and prove the existence of something is to want to try to prove its non-existence. It is a no-brainer, and an absolutely obvious reality to see God in everything we do, and in everything that exists in the universe.

Some of these men who seek to prove the non-existence of a creator of an incomprehensible, and enormous universe, housing uncountable variety of complex, and sophisticated creatures have in their unconscious state cried out to Him for help. They deny the existence of a Creator, but appreciate and acknowledge the complexity of His creatures. Need I say, that there is nothing easier to know and understand than that there is a hand behind every single thing that exists. They sometimes say the world came into existence by mistake, but believe they themselves are on earth for a purpose: what an irony.

God is visible in everything we do, see, hear, and think, He is everywhere, and in everything, without Him nothing happens, nothing exists, nothing, absolutely nothing. He is in the trees that sprouts from a tender seedling to become a mighty tree, housing as many creatures that seeks an habitation in it. He is in the rivers, the oceans, and the seas that never run dry, He is in the rains that pours upon the earth. He gave life to the ant, He gave life to the elephant, He gave life to human beings. The gentle winds, and the hurricane are like the breath of His nostrils, He created everything, and nothing was, and can be created that he did, and will not know about.

Like the French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher, Voltaire said, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him." he realised that there is a brain behind everything we have in the world, and that if there is no one, then there is a necessity for one and it should be created. God exists, and in everything that exists. Without Him you can do nothing, and in Him you can do all things, put Him in first in all you do and life will be for you a journey without hitches.

366 days of wisdom (September 19, 2020)

Day 263 of wisdom

“Chance fights ever on the side of the prudent.”

Euripides

Chance is the the possibility, or probability of the happening of something without a deliberate and focused effort towards the realization of such thing. No one ever achieves, or gets anything by chance, chance is not an ally of the idle, chance favours and is ever fighting on the side of the prudent man, one does not expect to receive what he does not work for. A job seeker does not get a job if he does not apply for a job, an admission seeker does not get the opportunity to be admitted into an higher institution of learning if he does not write an entrance examination, but when one works for something the chances of getting that thing or even something better is higher.

Chances are ever existent almost anywhere, but they never show up until one digs it up through hard work and the determination to achieve whatever one conceives in his mind. Bart Conner said, "Chance can allow you to accomplish a goal every once in a while, but consistent achievement happens only if you love what you are doing." You can accomplish something by chance sometimes, but if you will consistently achieve success in everything you do, you must be ready to give it what it takes everyday.

In the words of Edward F. Halifax "where observation is concerned, chance favours only the prepared mind." chance is what it is termed when a prepared mind utilises an opportunity to achieve success. We must always prepare our minds for unexpected opportunities, and when this opportunities comes, we must make the best use of them because, opportunities comes very rarely, and when they do come, they come in very disguised manner, only a ready, and enlightened mind can unravel it.

Every new day present new chances to every man, it is left to each one to make proper use of the chances presented to him. If a man wants something so badly, he must rise daily, and fight for what he so much wants to achieve because, hard work is the price to be paid for success. The opportunities we maximise in life determines how our life turns out. Keep yourself in motion for chances only accompany a man in motion.

366 days of wisdom (September 18, 2020)

Day 262 of wisdom

“As long as one keeps searching, the answers come.”

Joan Baez

Whatever a man does not seek, he does not find, but if one earnestly seek something, he will certainly find it. The book of Matthew in its seventh, and eighth verses of the seventh chapter said "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." we don't see because we do not find, we do not receive because we do not ask, and doors remain shut unto us because we do not knock.

What you have today is what you asked for yesterday, what you ask for today you will soon get, so, be careful what you ask for, because that is exactly what you will receive. There is no ending to what one can receive as long as he keep asking. Whatever we can conceive in our minds the universe can provide, if we ask we will get it.

The secret to getting more from life is to ask for more, the quality of questions you ask will also determine the quality of the answers you get. If you want to learn more from life, you must be willing, and ready to sit humbly at the feet of those who knows what you want to know. You must present yourself as one who does not know, as Epictetus once said, "It is impossible to begin to learn that which one thinks one already knows." If you think you know something, even if you don't know it, you cannot learn that thing unless you unthink your thoughts of already knowing it.

There abound a plethora of answers we have received, but are yet to know. We must open our eyes to see the hidden, to know the unknown, and to discover the secrets things of life. In times when we have gone beyond what our mights can carry us, we must seek the help of the Almighty because, with Him we can do all things, and with Him nothing is impossible. The great Albert Einstein recognised this fact when he said, "When the solution is simple, God is answering." When everything tends to go on smoothly, when we stress less, but achieve maximum results, when ease is the effort of great results, then God is answering. When we involve God in all we do, we are destined to succeed.

366 days of wisdom (September 17, 2020)

Day 261 of wisdom

“The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy.”

Jim Rohn

Life is like a boomerang, in fact, almost every single thing we do in life always have a boomerang effect (pay back). You receive the returns of your deeds in the same coin that you gave it out to others, and every action has advantages, as well as disadvantages. Therefore, sometimes when you try to restrict people from getting to you in other not to cause you harm, pain, or sadness, you are in one way or the other also restricting those who will bring you joy, bliss, and laughter. The walls that you build to shut out sadness also shut out joy because it is a wall, it shuts out everything, not a sieve that allows some and restrict the others.

The world does not become better by erecting walls, rather it becomes better by building bridges. When we build bridges, we make the world smaller, we bring people closer, we propagate joy, and extend peace, but when we erect walls, we breed discord, we increase tension, and limit ourselves to within our walls. These walls are not necessarily physical but mental. The diversity of the human race is not to separate us from each other thereby making us weak, rather it is to be harnessed, and synergised to strengthen us as one.

We must seek to understand each other more, we must seek to know and explore what binds us together, rather than what separates us, we must see our similarities before our differences. Without these, building bridges may be difficult. Bridges are built on firm grounds over weak grounds or water, not on weak grounds or water. In building bridges you must establish firm readiness for collaboration and unity, and willingness for sustenance, else your efforts will go down the drain.

If you really want to be happy, we must be open, flexible, and careful, we must study carefully those around us and know those who deserve to be let into our inner space, and those that need to be shut out. A tree does not make a forest, we cannot make for ourselves all we need to live a full, and happy life. We must associate, but with the right people, we must build bridges that allows the right people into our lives, not just anybody. Build more bridges not walls.

366 days of wisdom (September 16, 2020)

Day 260 of wisdom

“Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparation.”

Robert H. Schuller

Every human being is capable of achieving spectacular achievements, everyone is born for a purpose beyond ordinary mediocrity, everyone can become whatever they want to be, but not everyone will become what they want, and should be because, not everyone is ready and willing to pay the price for what they really want from life. Potentials are in inertia until triggered, abilities are useless until put to use, circumstances remain the same until a determination is reached to change the story.

Athletes train and prepare for hours, days, weeks, months, and even years for an event that will last only a few days, or hours, and when they win the trophies, and the medals, we think it is the reward for just a few hours on the pitch, court, ring, or tracks, but we consider not their time and effort behind the scenes which enabled them achieve what we see on the big stage. The great Mohamed Ali once said, “I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'” if you must live your life as a winner, and champion, you must first suffer, we must work as if our lives depend on it.

Usain Bolt also said, “Easy is not an option.. No days off.. Never Quit.. Be Fearless.. Talent you have Naturally.. Skill is only developed by hours and hours of work.” everyone have got a special talent, it is natural and inborn, but you must work consistently on your skill to be developed, you must be determined to improve and better your skill everyday or else it will fail you when you need it most. It is better to be prepared for an opportunity that may never come, than to have an opportunity come to us and not be prepared to utilise it. Failure due to lack of opportunity is not as terrible as failure due to lack of preparation.

Internationally acclaimed organizational consultant and author of "All you need is a ball" Idowu Koyenikan said, “Opportunity does not waste time with those who are unprepared.” Always be prepared to cash in on any opportunity, never despise any opportunity to improve yourself. My little brother John James once said, "The product of patterned purposeful planning, partnership and preparation, is a positive performance provided proven persistence is present." if your preparation is persistent, your performance will surely be positive.

366 days of wisdom (September 15, 2020)

Day 259 of wisdom

“I've never chased money. It's always been about what I can do to motivate and inspire people.”

Tyler Perry

Money certainly, and unarguably makes the world go round, without money so many things will suffer, but money is not the most important of things to any man. In everything we do, we can dream, and hope to make money, but beyond the money we hope to make, we must consider the place of a supreme purpose, purpose beyond money and personal gratification, purpose that liberates people, inspire people, motivate people, and expose them to the limitless possibilities that lies ahead of them, purpose that gives life, and breathe existence to all other purpose.

Life is not always about what we can gather for ourselves, but about what we are able to do for, and give to others. True wealth is not measured by how much we have accumulated, but by how much we are able to give to others. A rich man who does not give is poor, and a poor man who gives is rich because there is abundance in giving. Albert Pike said, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." what goes inside us dies with us, but what comes out of us remains immortal, we must seek to give more than we want receive.

"The stars of the night inspire you; and then you write poetry and inspire others; this time others create new things with the inspiration they get from you! You see, thousands of beauty are created with a simple inspiration!" these are the words of Mehmet Murat ildan. Something or someone inspires us to become who we are, want to be, and what we do, we must not let the inspiration die with us, we must spread it further, by this, we cause a ripple effect in the world around us, and spread the light of inspiration to build and create a better and a more beautiful world.

Be a light, be the spark that ignites the fire of optimism and vision in another man, be the reason someone dreams to be a better person, be a driver of positive energy, and positive change in your community, never give in to discouragement and ridicule, let your light always shine. Legends are not made by titles, designers clothes, positions, or office, legends are made by the amount of lives they are able to make better through their deeds, words, and actions. Strive to make others happy, that's how you become truly happy.

366 days of wisdom (September 14, 2020)

Day 258 of wisdom

“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.”

Arthur C. Clarke

You see only as far as you have come, when you go further you will see farther. Whatever you seek, you will find; whatever you hope for, with hard work and determination, you will get. You only know what you currently know, because that is all you have sought to know, if you seek to know more, you will discover and know more. Life has no limitations, only the once our minds create. There is no limit to what we can achieve in life, but only to the extent to which we are willing, ready, and able to go.

When you are faced with an enormous, and seemingly impossible task, project, or vision, and you feel like putting it off, because of its seeming impossibility. Remember that, you don't cut down a tree with one hit of the axe, you will have to consistently throw the axe to the base of the tree until it falls to the ground. It may take time, but it will surely fall. St. Francis of Assisi once said, "Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible." you enter the realm of doing the impossible by doing the simple, basic and the possible.

Doing the impossible will sometimes require that you have people around you who believe in you, people who encourage you, motivate you, push you, and tell you that you can do that which you have set out to do. People who will always remind you of why you started, how you started, what you have gone through to get to where you are, and why you must go to the end of it. These people are the oil that lubricates your engine when it is wearing out, they lift you up when you fall, and they put you back on track when you stray. They may be friends, family members, neighbours, colleagues, bosses, or even strangers, they are your most valued assets, value them.

In the words of Assegid Habtewold who said "Visionaries saw humanity’s untapped potential and the unlimited possibilities in the unseen world and they brought them forth. Join the club and bring forth what our world and humanity needs in your generation and generations to come." There are ideas you must birth; there are treasures inside of you that you must gift the world; never doubt that you can bring to life something the world has never seen, you are a pool of great and endless possibilities.

366 days of wisdom (September 13, 2020)

Day 257 of wisdom

“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.”

Barbara De Angelis

Once, A middle aged woman was on her way to the grocery store when she saw an attendant wrestling with a small boy to recover a stolen good. The woman stopped to ask what the situation was, "this boy is a criminal, he tried to get away with a drug he didn't pay for" the attendant screamed. "little boy, why are you doing this?" the woman asked. "My mom is sick at home, she needs the drug, and we cannot afford to pay for it" the young boy said. "Oh! I am so sorry, how much is the drug? I will pay for it, let the little boy go" the woman said. The boy was let go, and the woman paid for the drugs with everything she had on her, and returned home empty. The little boy got home to discover his mother had already given up the ghost.

Some years later, the middle aged woman, now old, weak, and feeble was rushed into the emergency unit of an hospital needing urgent attention. She was quickly attended to, and revived. Upon gaining consciousness she asked how much her bill was, when she was told, she exclaimed, how do I get that much money to pay? "You don't have to worry ma'am, the bills are sorted, you are free to go" a young man in white overall said, dazed, the woman asked, who are you? I am the young boy you paid for his mother's drugs at the groceries thirty years ago, though my mother couldn't make it that day, I am glad you made it today, your kindness and that of many others brought me here today, I own this hospital, the young man explained.

Love and kindness are two inseparable twins, you can not show kindness to someone you don't love, and you can't love someone and not be kind to such person. Love and kindness are never wasted, no matter who it is shown to, those who show love always receive love, and when you are kind to others you get it back from other people. Life is like a pendulum that swings to and fro, if it swings towards you today, it will swing towards another person tomorrow. What you do for others with the opportunity you have today, will determine what you will get from them when they are in the same shoes you were yesterday.

The man who has nothing can give a priceless amount of love and kindness. When we show love, it spreads; when we show kindness, it multiplies, it causes ripples that never ends, it lights up the world around us. The world begs for more kind people, there can never be enough kind men. Kindness does not make a man weak, it strengthen a man. If we want to see a change in the world we must show more kindness, like Bob Kerrey said “Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.”

366 days of wisdom (September 12, 2020)

Day 256 of wisdom

“Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation... even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.”

Leonardo da Vinci

A farmland that is left uncultivated will lose its nutrients to the growth of unwanted plants. Anything left unused will lose its value, strength, and usefulness. Thomas Edison once said, "The perils of overwork are slight compared with the dangers of inactivity." it is far more dangerous to be inactive, and idle than to be too busy getting something done. The key to maintaining relevance, and usefulness is to keep getting busy and useful. There is a popular saying that "an idle hand is the devil's workshop." if a man is idle, he becomes an instrument of evil vices.

The people who want good things do not sit and expect good things to come to them, they go out, roll up their sleeves, and get busy, they work hard and fight for those things they want. One who choose to be idle rather than put his body, brain, and mind to work in the creation of a better tomorrow does not rest, rather he prepares for the grave, he is a walking dead. Idleness, and inactivity are great enemies of humanity.

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing." are the words of Theodore Roosevelt when talking about activity, and inactivity. In that moment when the privilege to decide on what to do about a thing beckons, doing the right thing is your best choice, but instead of doing nothing at all it is better you do the wrong thing, because somehow you learn, and get unpriced experience from doing the wrong thing, while you become redundant in doing nothing at all. It is better you do it wrong than doing nothing at all.

Chuck Close once said, "Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself." most of the times, it is in the busyness that we get the breakthrough ideas that we sincerely seek for our dreams, and projects. Our minds get broadened in the process, our brains get sharpened on the move, our body gets stronger on the job. So, instead of staying idle get busy, and get better.

366 days of wisdom (September 11, 2020)

Day 255 of wisdom

“One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present.”

Golda Meir

Though the future is bright and loaded with lots of goodies for us, and we are shaping our today to fit our plans, our yesterday has so far produced who we are today, and brought us this far on our journey to the future. We must therefore make no attempt to detach ourselves from our yesterday, or erase our past irrespective of how terrible it might have been. Sometimes we are not proud of our past actions, we might have taken those actions in haste, from a naive mind, out of ignorance, or even intentionally, and we are therefore not proud of such actions, we must yet take responsibility for those actions for they have become part of us, and our journey.

Nonetheless, we must not continue to nurse the wounds caused by our terrible past, we must seek to move past every hurt, and limitations it is imposing upon us, we must see it as past and not allow it determine our now, or even affect our future. We must not forget the lessons learnt, because every thing that happens to us teaches us a special lesson. If you sincerely take responsibility for your past, and your present, you will be able to create your own desired future, you will be confident enough to take necessary actions to shape the future you want to create.

The key to true happiness is to accept responsibility for your actions, be accountable for your results, and take ownership of your mistakes. By doing this, you allow yourself determine what you get from every situation that comes your way, and not allow the situation determine what happens to you. You are what you say you are not what others, or your situation say you are.

If you want a future free of regrets, think deeply, think twice before you take any action, before you utter any words. Weigh your thoughts, your words, and your actions before making it public, never do or say anything in haste. You will always reap the rewards of whatever you do, or say, you will always be remembered for what you do, and say to others. At the end of the day when you will remember what you gave others, what you said to others, and what you did to others, will you say you have lived the life you wanted, or you have lived just an ordinary life. Take charge of your tomorrow, by owning your yesterday.

366 days of wisdom (September 10, 2020)

Day 254 of wisdom

“Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it’ll always get you the right ones.”

John Lennon

An honest man does not have many friends, he does not expect many friends neither does he need many friends. A man only become friend to a person of like mind, who shares same ideas as him. The reality therefore is that there are not much honest people in our societies any more. It is therefore a difficult task for an honest man to have, or make many friends. The world today has become so perverse, and corrupt, that an honest man is seen as foolish, and old fashioned as dishonesty, and fraud has become the other of the day.

Someone once said, "Everyone says they value transparency and honesty. Most are lying." people hypocritically express their expectation, and desire for transparency, honesty, and integrity, but they live in negation to these same attributes they consistently expect from others. Though it is human to expect from others what they themselves cannot offer, we must endeavour to live our lives in unison with our expectations from others in all our dealings, as we will always get in return whatever we give to others.

In the words of Marcus Aurelius who said, "if it is not right do not do it, if it is not true do not say" honesty entail doing only what is right, and saying what is true irrespective of consequences. We must be ready, willing, and courageous to face whatever the outcome of our actions, and words will bring. We must seek to do the right thing always, because it is the only thing that can make the world a better place. We must do right, not only to our friends, families, or neighbours, but also to everyone who we transact any sort of business with in any form.

Being honest requires being courageous, it requires inner strength, and is the root of happiness, and sound health. As Maya Angelou once said, "Without courage we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest." courage is the key that activates, and sustains all other good virtues within us. Sometimes In leading an honest life we face severe opposition from dishonest people, sometimes we are punished for being honest, but if we keep on being honest, we will eventually reap the reward of honesty.

366 days of wisdom (September 09, 2020)

Day 253 of wisdom

“Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.”

Auliq Ice

It is a basic human right to be able to say whatever you want to say, however you want to say it, in any medium you want to say it, but it is not right to say words that are intended to demean, destroy, and disrespect any human being irrespective of race, colour, social status, job, gender, or age. Engaging in such acts is a direct violation of someone else's human rights. Although free, words can cost so much if recklessly used. Your liberty to say whatever you want to say, is not the liberty to use it rashly, or carelessly. You must be careful what you utter.

People's utterances have brought them great destruction, and disrepute, others have through their words gotten to heights they never imagined they would attain. Whatever we say today may not hurt us today, but come to hunt us in the future. Carl Sandburg once said "Be careful with your words, once they are are said, they can only be forgiven, not forgotten." words once spoken never go away, they have a way of sticking around even as long as a lifetime, and can always come back against us.

Our words can be kind, and given out as invaluable gifts to someone who need it; they can be used to lift people from despair to desiring a better life; they can be used to transform someone's bad day into an entirely blissful day, like Yehuda Berg said, "Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble." The way we use our words determines what it does.

Our words say the kind of person we are, when we talk, we declare with our mouths who we are, and what we are made of. Our words originates from our thoughts, and our thoughts are a true reflection of our personality. Silence is sometimes the best way to live happily. If we understand the power of our words, we would realise that true wisdom is in uttering few words, we would prefer to remain silent than say words that may bring negativity to our space. Before you say a word, taste it, think about it, digest it and see if its impact after it is dropped will be positive or negative, then you can decide if to spill it out or not.

366 days of wisdom (September 08, 2020)

Day 252 of wisdom

“Humility is not cowardice. Meekness is not weakness. Humility and meekness are indeed spiritual powers.”

Swami Sivananda

Once, a job seeker was on his way to an interview, while waiting for a bus heading for his destination, an individual also trying to find his way stepped on his shoes, "look at this fool, don't you know I am going for an interview? And you stepped on me" he yelled at the individual. Hurriedly the individual bent down to clean the stained shoes, "get out" he added. Upon arrival of a bus, everyone hurried into the bus to occupy a seat, and there was only one seat left on the bus for the job seeker to seat, and it was beside the man who had earlier stepped on his shoes."I can't sit beside this fool" he said, and he decided to wait for the next bus.

The next bus arrived, and he got to the interview venue, he asked to be directed to the interview room, and got there, upon entering the interview room he discovered the "fool" he had rashly spoken to was the interviewer. "You cannot work with a fool, I am sure" the man said. He had obviously lost the job before he even got the opportunity to be interviewed, just for his proud, and unruly character. Humility is the ladder that leads to exaltation, one who humbles himself will be lifted by others, but the one who exalts himself will be debased.

An humble man is not a coward, and a meek person is not a weak person, they are people who possess great spiritual powers capable of opening doors that pride, and arrogance cannot open. Life is equal, all men are created equal, but some men have better privileges. Those who are privileged must not take unjust, and undue advantage of the unprivileged, rather they must seek to raise them to heights of privilege. Michel de Montaigne once said "On the highest throne in the world, we still sit only on our own bottom." however big you are in the world, you cannot but do things that are common to every man, even to the poorest in the world.

Practice humility, it exalts; practice meekness, it gladden, and heals the heart. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, he said, "A great man is always willing to be little." because he knows the way up is down; he knows that anything that goes up, comes down, but whatever grows up, stays up, and if you must grow up, you must first go down, and be buried into obscurity. Humility and meekness are indeed great powers, use them to your advantage.

366 days of wisdom (September 07, 2020)

Day 251 of wisdom

“The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of tiny pushes of each honest worker.”

Helen Keller

Indispensability in the world of work, and profession is not exclusive to any man irrespective of his class, status, skill or personality, neither is any one dispensable. The world as we have it today is the product of cumulative effort by people of every class, and strata. The exclusivity of creating a better world is not reserved for any man, everyone who has come have a part to play in making the world the place for every other person to live in, especially the unborn generation. The little push, the minor pull, the shoving, and the carrying by all and sundry have contributed to what we have today.

The world have witnessed the presence and passage of great men who invented great inventions, who painted amazing paintings, who performed great arts, who scripted wonderful writings, and brought to life unimaginable realities, these one all did their bids in making the world a better place, but there abound millions of other great men who were neither heard nor seen, but were the real enablers of the exploits performed by those we know. These men are in their rights very valuable to everything that has been created. Among these are cleaners, secretaries, laboratory attendants, and many more, they all deserve their respects.

We are all an important part of one big race, and family: Humanity, we must all be responsible in our different field of endeavour, and profession, we must with pride, and thirst for excellence carry out our duty as excellently as possible as though it is the only thing we are here to do. There is dignity and pride in labour, we must therefore never look down on ourselves as regards the nature of our profession or job. Even Jesus Christ was referred to as a carpenter. Our job should be our pride, for without us doing what we do, the world would lack something important.

If we must become, we must work. Grover Cleveland once said, "Honour lies in honest toil." it is in our honest labour that we derive true honour. Labour is the price we pay for whatever we desire in life. In the words of Pope Francis who said elaborately, "There is no worse material poverty, I am keen to stress, than the poverty which prevents people from earning their bread and deprives them of the dignity of work." poverty is not the lack of money or material substance, it is the lack of the ability to earn dignity through work. There is dignity and honour in labour strive to earn it.

366 days of wisdom (September 06, 2020)

Day 250 of wisdom

“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can this kind of faith save him?.”

James 2:14 NET

Nothing tangible can be achieved in life without faith, but faith alone cannot do all the magic. Faith is a necessity for both ephemeral and eternal success, but faith without work is dead. The first verse of Hebrews chapter eleven defines faith as, "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is the belief, or expectation that something that does not yet have a physical manifestation will be received, seen, or achieved. "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." according to James  2:26. Therefore, 'Work' is the trigger that puts faith to work.

Life is governed by principles, and no one is above or beyond the principles of life. If you do not abide by these principles, you will not reap the reward of these principles. You cannot be lazy, and expect to be successful, you cannot sit idly and expect to reap where you have not sown. Though faith is an expectation of great things to come, one's faith, no matter how big it is will yield nothing if not supported by works. Lazy faith produces nothing, but faith coupled with work yields great, and unimaginable results.

On the subject of faith without works, Miroslav Volf very aptly, and concisely puts, "To live with integrity, it is important to know what's right and what's wrong, to be educated morally. However, merely KNOWING is not enough. Virtuous character matters more than moral knowledge. The reason is simple: like the self-confessing apostle Paul in Romans 7, most of those who do wrong know what's right but find themselves irresistibly attracted to its opposite. Faith idles when character shrivels" we must build strong characters to keep our faith alive, and thriving or else we would risk great failure.

You must know that your best days are yet ahead of you, and you must believe that those days will bring you all the good that you want, and expect from it, but you must also ensure that you put in the necessary work to brings those expectations to life. You are unlimited, and unbreakable; you are powerful beyond measures; you are a reservoir of greatness, never let your potentials go to waste. Give life to your dreams, and visions, pursue until you achieve, and your life will be just what you wanted.

Day 249 of wisdom

“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.”

Honore De Balzac

Sometimes life threatens us so much that we forget who we are, and the powers we possess. Within every man resides limitless powers. It is our awareness of such powers, and our readiness to tap into its abundance to our advantage that makes the difference between our past, our present, and our future. We were created with so much power to dominate, and rule our world, but if we do not put that power to use we wouldn't get ahead. Whatever we constantly think about we receive. If we consistently think we cannot do a thing, we will likely not be able to do that thing, but if we believe we can, we would.

In the words of Theodore Roosevelt, "each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing" our fears are meant to be faced, if we do not face it, we will be crushed by it, but if we face it, we will surely overcome it. The key to gaining courage is facing our fears. Fear is one of the most powerful forces on earth after love, and faith, but as powerful as it may seem, it is very impotent. Fear derive its power from the person who give it room to breed, it has no power, but people empower fear to oppress, and victimise them.

Sometimes, the people in your life need to stand up to the task of making you realise how powerful, talented, and skillful you are. This is what good friends do for themselves. They encourage themselves, lift themselves, and strengthen themselves. A good friend will tell you that you can do a thing, and you will receive strength to do that thing. There are people who can't do things, and they tell you you can't do that thing on the premise of their failure, but you must realise that no one can hold you down from doing what you want, and can do.

C. JoyBell C. Once said, "The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I'm not going to let myself pull me down anymore." if you will not give undue powers to your doubt, by doubting your powers, you can never be held down by any thing in the world. Only you can approve, or disapprove your happiness, success, and greatness, except you hand such privilege over to someone else. Always be yourself, believe in yourself, never doubt your powers, and abilities, and never dream to be someone else. You are born original, live original, and die original.

Day 248 of wisdom

“Like what you do. If you don't like it, do something else.”

Paul Harvey

Succeeding at any endeavour in life is dependent on one's love and passion for such endeavours. If you don't like doing something, the likelihood of succeeding at that is very minimal, it is therefore important that you quit doing what you don't like, and start doing what you like. What you love doing is tied to your purpose in life, so, if you discover your purpose in life you will most certainly love what you are doing.

Rigidity limits progress, but flexibility is a propeller for growth. There is no reason a man should stay glued to something that does not bring him joy. No matter what you do, if you haven't found what gives you joy never quit searching until you discover it. Water find its way through every obstacle, and obstruction because it always maintain a flexible shape. If you adopt flexibility you will always find a way.

Avijeet Das said very succinctly about doing what one love when he said, "Life is not meant to follow a pattern. Every moment has a multitude of realms. And we have to take decisions in life. Sometimes our decisions may take us on an unknown path. We must believe in ourselves and go forward. It is better to be a failure doing things that you love doing than be a success doing things that you hate doing!" When you succeed at what you love doing, your life will be happy, and fulfilling.

Nicky Ver once advised, "Chase your dreams, do what you love; even if it doesn't pay the bills, it pays the happiness." the most important thing for any man in life is a happy life. Happiness is more important than money, if you seek happiness, and you get it, money will not be too far from you. Feed your heart with joy, and satisfaction, and the bills will soon be light, and settled.

366 days of wisdom (September 03, 2020)

Day 247 of wisdom

“You are the bow from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

Khalil Gibran

A photocopying (reproduction) machine receives whatever is being put into it in prints or writing and brings it out exactly the way it is on the original. The machine itself has nothing to produce as an output, because it is absolutely blank. Children are like a reproduction machine, at birth, they are blank minded and without ideas, they only do what is most convenient and natural to them, cry and sleep. They gradually begin to do things they are being forced, shown, or taught to do, like suck, smile, laugh, eat, crawl, walk, and so on, until they become full grown.

Every parent want their children to be good people who will bring to them, peace and pride, but most of them have failed to realize that, whatever their children will become is up to them. Children most often become replica of their parents, this happens not necessarily intentionally, but because their blank minds was filled with what they saw their parents do, and not just what they say. Like James Baldwin said, “Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”

The mirror of every child are their parents, so, you have to live out the kind of life you expect your children to live. Whatever you give out to them by example, you see in them. Alexandre Dumas also said, "Instruction is good for a child; but example is worth more." rather than instruct children on what to do, live by what you expect them to do, and you don't need to tell them anything more.

The future of any nation are the children of that nation, every nation that expects to have a great future must invest adequately in her children, she must take responsibility for building, and raising children of good character, and attitude, because without these (character and attitude) there is no guarantee for a peaceful, and prideful future.

366 days of wisdom (September 02, 2020)

Day 246 of wisdom

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Proverbs  14:34 (King Solomon)

To every action and inaction there is a consequent reward or penalty. One cannot emback on a journey towards Jerusalem, and expect to arrive at Medina; we cannot engage in evil deeds, and expect good dividends. Nature does not cheat any man, neither can nature be cheated. Whatever a man sows, he reaps.

Righteousness not religion exhalts a nation, but sin (corruption, lawlessness, tyranny, etc) is a reproach to any people. No matter who you are, if you do the wrong thing you are definitely going to face reproach, but when the right things are being done you are sure to be exhalted. Righteousness is not a religious nomenclature, it simply is, *doing the right thing* . Award winning, and multi talented Nigerian artist Cobhams Asuquo, in his song 'do the right thing' said, "There is something missing in the world today Its the one thing that can make the world okay, and it doesn't cost nothing, no you don't even have to pay Its about doing the right thing everyday."

He further said, "If the right thing is the order of the day, then the world would be a better place to stay, but corrupted mind is your worst enemy, so I suggest you do the right thing starting today." If we all as a people, irrespective of our tribe, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation, or societal status are determined to do the right thing wherever we find ourselves, it wouldn't be long before the world see what good is in us, and how great we are.

Sometimes, doing the right thing may not be convenient for us, but if we must achieve greatness as a nation, every individual must look being his personal gratification, and comfort, and do only the things that will enhance national development, and growth. Be courageous in doing the right thing, keep a good attitude, even when no one is watching, do the right thing, do the best you can, and show people you truly love, and care for them. If everyone will do the same, our nation will soon become a true pride.

366 days of wisdom (September 01, 2020)

Day 245 of wisdom

“I don’t listen to weakies.”

Bobby Fischer

Being raised by a single mother for the most part of his life Bobby Fisher was supposed to have a troubled childhood, and an obscure future, but he never allowed any of the unpleasant circumstances around him to weigh him down, or deprive him of his untold greatness. At age fifteen Fischer became both the youngest grandmaster (GM) up to that time and the youngest candidate for the World Championship. He started learning chess with his sister who later quit chess playing, but did not allow that to hinder him from pursuing what he felt was his purpose.

As sojourners on the path to greatness, we hear different sounds, and different noices that are targeted at either, weakening, or discouraging us from continuing the work we are meant to do, or pursuing our dreams. If we would actually get to our destination, we must not listen to the sound of discouragement, our eyes must be set on our goal, or else we would find ourselves wandering the path of mediocrity, and mischief.

When people can not do a thing they tell you 'no one has done it, and no one can do it', but until someone challenge the status quo, no one will ever do any thing. Records have been broken by people who dared to do what has never been done, not people who listened to those who know that something has never been done, and can not be done.

Criticism is a tool wise people employ in their pursuit of success, we must be careful what we listen to, and who we listen to. When constructively criticised, we must learn how to make use of such criticism as tools for growth, and amendments of our past errors, and dispel criticisms that are meant to dampen our morale. In the end, all that matters is what you were able to do with your life, and the gifts bestowed on you by your maker, not who you listened to, and whose advice was the best. Life is a personal journey, live your life by your visions, not by what you hear.
